QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 01:54 PM) The thing you have to view it as is hitting areas that aren't well suited for either air travel or car travel. Denver to Chicago is probably best served by air travel, but Chicago to Detroit/Indy/Milwaukee/St. Louis, you spend 4x the time at airport security as you do in the air. Same thing on the U.S. East coast, where the population density is the highest in the country and you have large cities that would be ideally connected by HSR. San Francisco, Las Vegas, L.A., and San Diego makes sense as well. TSA pre-check dude. I get to the airport, walk right to my gate, get on plane, 40 min later land in Minny. So fast.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) Ha! What is that quoting? Just about every poster on the PSU forums. They still have their tinfoil hats on regarding the Paterno firing. If you havent been exposed to PSU fans in the past, they are pretty much all like that. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) So, that one issue aside, James Franklin to me was going to be the best hire in college football. I thought if the stanford coach left he was a lock. Penn State will be a tough win for the next few years, and mizzou like gains back an easy win! Woo hoo! PSU is going to have a really tough time in their division, of course not all PSU fans care about winning, for example: Always, Always holier than thou. To this day they think they are the cleanest program ever ran. -
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 12:14 AM) Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. Handzus isn't a second line center? Did anyone tell Bowman? He fell asleep at Palace grill and then the move was made. He's still in a food coma.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) I just started P90X3 as well. I appreciate the half hour format, but the workouts are definitely a lot easier. If you haven't done any of the previous work outs, the learning curve is pretty steep. They don't give you much guidance. If you've never done Yoga, you're going to have a hell of a time keeping up. I'll stick with it because I'm so sick of the others, but I don't think I'll get as good of results. That should be obvious though the workouts are half the time. It's more of a do your own pace including speed up if it gets easy. I kind of like that. Definitely pause at times to make sure I'm doing it right.

Wow Michigan got lucky. -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) Translation: Tanaka will not sign with us. Not sure they know anything along those lines. Word has it the pitch was about the future of the club, Chicago and the ownership. Looks like there is more smoke here than I thought as the Sox seem to have legitimate interest for the right cost.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 05:53 PM) I've been hearing things. He's a target, but they hadnt been in contact as of today. Thats kind of a lateral move when he's due for an HC position. He also convinced Braxton to stay at OSU. We did lost Vrabel to the NFL today. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 11:16 PM) Rock, your OC might go to Texas I asked someone who would know and he said there has been zero contact. -
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 12:24 PM) Well yeah, we have inept politicians for starters. I would probably have a heart attack if you found an honest bone in any of their bodies. Thats part of it. Every piece of land from Chicago to St Louis would have a politician wanting his cut and his population's cut.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) What other country can compare to the geographic obstacles we have? We put things off too long, and there's plenty of work to be done, but I don't think it's very easy to compare Europe or Asia to the US. The midwest is flat as a pancake, it should be easy to lay down high speed rail.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 11:18 AM) Sox are owned by a bunch of people, their combined assets likely is equal to or exceeds the Ricketts family. Reinsdorf is a figurehead, he (unless its changed) is not even the single biggest owner. Thats the thing, the Ricketts borrowed a s***load of money to buy the Cubs, they dont have the money themselves.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) It is better since they went 3 lanes wide from MVille to 94. They still need to go 3 lanes for another 25 miles or so south. 3 lanes all the way to Indy would be nice.
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) Indiana is doing a great job at putting money into roads. Indy is having a hard time getting a local rail system going, but other than that, I like what Indiana is doing. Rt 65 is a joke, and its one of the main highways through the state.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) I would be all for pumping money into infrastructure. America is so ass backwards compared to some of the other first world countries of the world. High speed rail is something that NEEDS to happen, especially in the flat midwest. We should have St Louis, Minny, Milwaukee, Detroit, Indy, Cincy etc all connected via high speed rails. It makes almost TOO much sense. Start with Chicago to St Louis, make it happen.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) Tanaka is Japanese aha. If Tanaka wants to play in Chicago I am sure that the Cubs would offer more money than the Sox. If Tanaka wants to play where the most money is it's probably the Dodgers/Yankees/Cubs. If Tanaka wants to play where he is comfortable and closest to home it's the Dodgers or Mariners. I'm glad we are at least getting involved and I am excited for the situation to unfold. The Cubs have significantly less money than people think, they are leveraged to the eyeballs.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 10:32 AM) "Some" money, even like $15 mill, doesn't seem like it's going to be nearly enough. I'm happy to see they're showing interest, but I'm not going to care if they miss out on him. I'll keep my ear to the ground on this one because I dont think they even really expected a visit weeks ago.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) Denver and DC systems are not better than Chicago's in terms of coverage and practicality - Denver is in fact nowhere close to Chicago in those regards. But, DC and Denver's systems are much better maintained and cleaner. Denver's are free though...

It makes me think the Divergent series will be similar.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) I'm the opposite. I think the movies dwell too much on the non-games stuff. We got in the first movie that all of the districts are poor, hungry and have little to no luxuries, but the capital and everyone who lives there are well fed and rich. Really the big upgrade in the movies is not having to read 40 pages of inner monologue about what boy Katniss likes/dislikes and why. That crap was awful. It just seemed to me they didnt show the class separation as clearly as they should have.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 10:24 AM) He's already said that there's virtually no shot. There's nothing wrong with due diligence, and they'll give their pitch. It's likely Tanaka goes to the highest offer and that's not likely to be the Sox. VERY slim chance unless for some reason this guy wants to play for the Sox. We can have some money available if need be, but is this the right way to spend it? I dont know.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) I agree generally that the books are almost always better than the movie, mainly because of time constraints. One recent exception? The Hunger Games. That movie feel short IMO because they explained NOTHING. All of a sudden they are on a train and the food is amazing, but WHY?? There was no narration at all.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:02 PM) I'm not saying they weren't, but throughout last season conflicting reports would come out about who was favorite and teams that worked him out. one example: http://www.csnbayarea.com/giants/report-gi...n-slugger-abreu That doesnt say anything that contradicts what I said. The Sox were in on him from day 1 and the contract offered was exactly in the range of what I was told and mentioned on this site.
