QUOTE (Boogua @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 08:17 PM) . Your perception of tOSU athletics is obviously skewed though. And you are incredibly objective. Thanks for the zero examples of Matta being shady, once again cementing that you were making baseless claims. I especially enjoyed when you pointed out the OSU had hired Turners dad to an unrelated company when Evan was 10 years old in order to recruit him. You had missed how OSU and Matta got him accepted to a local high school (Ashtabula) and even paid them off to let him graduate in 1978 before Evan was born. Talk about foresight. -

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 07:14 PM) I didn't think the Arkansas AD was going to do it, but it was the right thing to do. Glad to see Petrino fired. Karma is a b****... Mike Zimmer is lighting a victory cigar somewhere... If people thought Luke Fickell was in over his head, if Taver Johnson takes over that team I expect no more than 5 wins. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 07:03 PM) Where is the offensive talent at Florida? They have no WRs and havent had a decent RB since Harvin left, if you want to count him as a running back. The offensive line has been average at best the past 2 seasons. How did he leave Florida elite? Since Meyer took over the UF program, the Gators have lost 21 games. 11 of those loses came in the past two seasons. A rough season can be expected after 4 years of Tebow but I watched every Gator game and there was no improvement during the final year of Meyer's tenure. So either Meyer was having a bad season coaching or he whiffed or didnt recruit any talent on offense. And last year's offense was just as bad because it was basically the same story from 2010. No RBs or WRs and average at best O-line. Rankings are all nice and fun for bragging rights but we all know how biased Rivals is. Meyer could offer me a scholarship tomorrow and I'm sure Rivals will give me 2 stars. I've read a few people who follow HS football in Florida say that UF was on its way down based on the recruiting classes Meyer was bringing in during his final years. Those were scout rankings. And when he was forced back into coaching them he had a bad season and clearly had some character issues. There is still plenty of talent, he brought in the #1 class which should have helped Muschamp build a dominant defense since it was rich with D prospects, instead they suck. And this past year he had guys like Demps who were supposed to be stars in a spread offense yet they brought in the failure that is Charlie Weis to ruin the offense. Its funny you mention O-line, have you seen how good the guys are that he (Meyer) put into the NFL? There is one common denominator in all of your points, they are failing with Muschamp as a coach. He came in with more talent than just about every team in the Big Ten and yet is average at best. Thats pure coaching. I'm glad you at least left the zook points alone. -

At least Rush at times has a basis for his opinions and has somewhat of an educational background (though not much). Ozzie is like a homeless man rambling at times.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) They have pretty much no talent right now on the offensive side of the ball. Actually Florida is half the program it once was because of Meyer. They went from winning 13 games a season to winning 7 games because of what he recruited. And youre giving Meyer way too much credit. We all know Florida was a premier program under Spurrier and even though Zook was horrible, with the money and resources at UF, they were going to hire someone very good to take over. And as bad as Zook was, he was still winning as much as Meyer was during his last two seasons at Florida and was bringing in much better talent. LOL, come on man. Florida has 3 national titles, guess who has 2 of them. Zook never won a conference title, Urban won 2 of them. Zook went to zero SEC championship games, Urban went to 3. Zook went 8-5, 8-5, 7-5. Urban went 9-3, 13-1, 9-4, 13-1, 13-1, 8-5. Class rankings under Zook: 20th 2nd 7th Urban: 11th 2nd 1st 12th (7th in star rating) 3rd in star rating (small class only 16 ships) 1st Florida had Spurrier and nothing else in its history. They never won a conference title until 1991. Urban not only brought them back into the elite, he left them there. They have a TON of talent and zero coaching. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 04:10 PM) Which brings up an interesting point. A dog's diet should be the same if they are roaming the woods trying to bring down game or sitting on a couch and going to a dog park? Whichever one makes them not puke all over your couch and doesnt make their hair fall out all over your tiny apt.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 03:38 PM) Tex, We don't even understand how best to feed ourselves. You think we can outsmart nature when it comes to feeding our dogs? The best approach is to feed as large a variety of good proteins as possible. That way we are most likely to cover all the nutrients dogs need. Unfortunately, this is very expensive and beyond the reach of most people for large dogs. Check out a product like Darwin's versus something like what most people feed Iam's. There is a huge, huge difference, because one caters to the needs of the dog, while the other caters to the needs of the dog's owner. Its so much trial and error on foods. ALOT of cleaning up or picking up puddles of s*** or puke.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 03:20 PM) We would also have to look at the knowledge that humans have and our ability to manufacturer pet foods. If we wish to continue to compare a dog in the wild, is modern pet food better or worse than scaveging old carcasses? Is the variety of nutrients we can pack into a single serving better or worse than the variety that a dog would have in the wild? As you mentioned, food is sometimes scarce and the animal will eat what it can. I have a hard time believing that we cannot manufacture a pet food that is equal or better than what a dog would receive in the wild. Is what you are feeding your dogs close to what they would receive in the wild? The entire animal? Would they receive that bounty every day of their lives? Wouldn't feeding them an entire animal twice a week be more aligned with the wild experience? Just some thougths I found interesting. I will point out that each dog is a different story. I have one that has been incredibly healthy happy with a great coat on the crappiest dog food you would find in Jewel. My other dog requires a high protein fish-based food with almost zero additives for her to be healthy. Its very hard to generalize.

On the above. I'm a huge fan of crating a puppy while away, but you need to come home very frequently for potty breaks and some long walks. Puppies are essentially like having small children, your sleep and work pattern will suffer for awhile.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) We obviously see things differently and that's to be expected. Davis' final 3 was UK, Syracuse, and tOSU. Interesting final 3. I've heard people speculate that Matta was outbid for Davis. It'd be hard to beat the the 200k that Kentucky offered (according to the Sun times, haha). It's all speculation though and I don't mean to make you angry or anything. Ridiculous claims dont make me angry. Matta isnt shady or crooked. He was in on Davis before he shot up in height and before those guys. In case you havent noticed Matta recruits Chicago very well. He's had zero whispers of NCAA violations in the 3 major schools he's been at. He also was clean enough to take over a program in complete disarray from an extremely shady coach. The Davis recruitment was a very clear case of the school who was recruiting him for a long time got outbid by a guy who leaves NCAA violations in his wake. In case the relationships are in question that he develops, he has an offseason camp for former players and several of them have apts near campus just for that in the summer. The guy truly builds a program and now his coaching tree is proving itself out at other schools. -
Need to sell that bachelor pad in the Trump asap. That place is like a frat house for high paid athletes.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's sour grapes. A lot of people speculate that he's going to end up at Duke or MSU. Not the dirtiest of programs. I'd think it would be a little shadier if tOSU WAS in the picture (ala Anthony Davis). Huh? Matta not being shady is what cost him Davis. -

QUOTE (Boogua @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 12:55 PM) I'm a little curious about the whispers regarding the Parker recruitment also. I've never heard a bad thing about him. Another thing to note is that Howard was part of a dysfunctional staff that had disagreements on how things should be run. Was he part of the problem? I'm not sure, but I heard that he boosts the players egos quite a bit (which probably helps him recruiting), but it supposedly caused some friction with Paul, Richardson, and Meyers regarding their roles on the team. I've heard Parker's recruitment is alot like D Rose's. Close family trying to keep things away from the kid himself, but alot of schools trying to give hand outs. It could always be sour grapes from fans who think Matta's not getting who he wants. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 12:51 PM) Where'd you read he wasn't in the top 3? I see a report that three other programs are recruiting him the hardest. It was in the pay scout site. The kid grew 2 more inches though and I fully expect UNC and Duke to ruin it for everyone else. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) He's 2014 so still time to make a new relationship, but really I think he was a pipe dream and a dominate post player doesn't really fit into what Groce wants to do. Im just saying Howard had alot of those relationships, Groce will go after some athletic big men as he like to play 4 out 1 in. They have to run the floor. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) And with Jerrance, I dunno. Do we NEED him for recruiting? No. But he was such a solid guy and proud representative for the school. He's the only link the program has to it's most recent national success. Is there now an issue with alums like Deron Williams because the school fired it's coached and didn't retain one of his best friends/teammates? Hope not... Okafor from Whitney Young just came out and said Illinois is not in top 3 because his main relationship was with Howard. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 12:40 PM) The bigger part of that is he's best friends with Parker and they want to play in college together. Add to that Parker's recent comments about wanting to stay in-state and Illinois' chances with him go up, up and up. I still think it's a long shot, but they're in a good position with him. Would parker be worth the trouble that could follow? I dont know. I am not sure he makes Illinois the best team in the conference at that point and there are alot of whispers around his recruitment. I hope they dont feel like they have to go all in on him regardless of the trouble that you could get in. -

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) What I am saying is regardless of this article, there were rumblings of problems at Florida before he left. They just weren't very loud. It wasn't just coming from this guy. The word was the players were running the program, there was no discipline for the "good" players and while there was talent there were a ton of kids who were bad kids or kids who needed guidance and weren't getting it. The idea that Florida was broken didn't just come from the guy in the article. I'm asking you to take your focus off the article and the guy who wrote it and see that maybe there is some merit to some of the things he said. Florida was ready to take several steps back and Meyer knew it when he left. If you're program is under control, you shouldn't have to quit for health reasons, change your mind, then quit the next year. Hell, that was half the reason I hated the guy. Snaked top recruits from us which turned out to be good since half the guys he recruited were complete dirtballs. What you said above is pretty well known in the OSU insider circle, he felt like the pressure to take some of those kids led to questionable character across the board within the roster. And actually led to legit stress related health issues. It was something he never faced before at Utah and BG. And the insiders are saying now thats whats keeping from away from certain recruits like Davonte Neal who was smoking weed on his official visit. I am hoping he learned his lesson and stays clean. Hoping. As of now Earle Bruce is one of the guys who has taken the leadership role for the alumni and football program and that is a MUCH better thing than what Urban had in FLA. The fact that the program is on probation has been said to have eliminated some of the leeway that was happening at the end of Tress's tenure. I still think the article is crap though written by a jaded fan who has seen the team crumble under a bad coach. They have alot of talent regardless of character. Florida wouldnt be half the program it is today without Meyer's tenure. And once again, unlike both of our programs, no NCAA violations, no probation.
