  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) Ok but Lee is 35, had off season thumb surgery and a bad back . LaRoche is 30/31 and has a relatively clean bill of health. Do you really want an old guy with a bad back coming off thumb surgery at 1st base ? It's asking for trouble. Yet still put up .298 .373 .888 in the second half with those debilitating injuries.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:22 AM) Some possible locations: Piece in Wicker Park Small Bar on Division Jimmy Green's in South Loop Captain Morgan Club at Wrigley Field The GF works at Jimmy Green's solid place, but could be out of the way for northerners. I like small bar as well.
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) Possibly 3 draft picks depending on DLees upcoming year. You better believe DLEE is probably option B for KW, and he is thinking exactly what we are.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) All of you are nitpicking. The two are very similar players, what matters is what are their health's like right now. The past doesn't matter as much as we know that is similar. If we think both are at 100% for their age without any major hurdles than I'm just fine with Lee. If Lee has issues, than maybe we should give Konerko the money or go another way. LaRoche and Pena both have some issues if you put them in the same lineup as an Adam Dunn (I.e., low average and high strikeout numbers). They are similar players offensively, DLEE is head and shoulders better defensively. And with DLEE you net 2 draft picks and probably one or two pen arms.
  5. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) I really hope other options don't include D. Lee. I watched him struggle enough on the north side to last me a lifetime. When exactly? He was awesome for the Cubs. He had a bad first half last year, thats it. He was awesome in the second half.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 08:12 PM) I hope every Big Ten team wins. Even the nuts. Thank you sir, and I root for the weasels as well.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) I'm guessing he's getting 3yrs with incentives that can take him into that 18-21 million dollar range. Im thinking 16-18 million total over 3 years. MUCH more than we were willing to pay.
  8. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) Bye bye putz Ken_Rosenthal Putz in agreement with #Diamondbacks on 2-yr deal with club option, pending physical. #WhiteSox #MLB 3 minutes ago Im guess 2 years, 10 million, option for a 3rd at 6?
  9. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) You'd have to assume that if Gonzalez had come, Dunn and Konerko would be playing elsewhere. I guess we coulda signed one of them on a frontloaded deal since Gonzo is only making $6 mil this season but I think the plan woulda been Gonzalez at first, Dayan or Quentin at DH. So what doesnt match up there? We know Konerko and his teammates were hearing he was a priority before any of this went down. KW was also negotiating with Dunn as soon as he possibly can because he was plan A. So where does A-gon fit in? My guess: Nowhere. Completely fabricated story.
  10. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) This is why I'm a lot less confident in Santos than most...I think he's going to have a rough sophomore season. Was it people figuring him out, or him getting a bit overworked through his first major league season. You cant teach stuff, and he has top notch major league stuff. I am not really that worried at all.
  11. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Kenny Williams just said JJ Putz is going elsewhere. Not coming back. - Garfien They didnt want to pay the guy. Oh well, he wanted to come back.
  12. QUOTE (Special K @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) I just read the White Sox were the runners up to get Gonzalez, having offered Gordon Beckham and Prospects per MLB Trade Rumors. Do you think they did this even after acquiring Dunn and were going for him instead of Konerko? And where the heck would they come up w/ that kind of money to sign him? I think its total BULLs*** to be completely honest.
  13. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) Come on J.J. you know you belong in Chicago. I think he wants to be, but we have to pay the man.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) Doubtful Yeah not a chance. The media just runs with BS too often.
  15. It would be surprising if Putz signs elsewhere, I really think oz is going to give him the chance to close here. This could be a media ploy.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) Let's put it this way...starting from scratch building a franchise as the 2nd team in chicago, or staying in NOLA, which is the better business investment? If I had no personal knowledge of the city, the first option might make sense, as Chicago is more than 3 times the size of the Metro area for NOLA, and hasn't recently been devastated, plus they have the benefit of the NBA's largest arena, and the CP3/DR1 rivalry would kick up instantly. That said...the only time I'd ever go to see the other team is to go see the Bulls beat them for cheaper tickets. And I think the rest of the city would be about the same way. The other team would always be the "other". I'd put them in Omaha
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) You realize this is Mizzou's Super Bowl. Just like it was for Northwestern. And Wisconsin. And Ohio State. And Minnesota. And Arizona. And Iowa State. We're the only team to lose our Super Bowl against Iowa. Their (vocal) fans are f***ing retarded. And miserable drunks during games. They lead the league in broken pint glasses.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) The same Cowley who said AJ was headed to Toronto, then edited his story. He signs with the Sox and was close to signing with the Dodgers. I wonder if when he talks about the "Sox players" he's speaking to, if he means Oney. he hasnt broken new information all this offseason. He got his Dunn information from this site.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) No one would support a second NBA or NFL team in Chicago. The Bears and Bulls are way too popular. NFL has a better chance though if the team is good, because the average fan can't see a Bears game in person. Those two teams are far to rooted to compete against. s***, if the Sox were brought in recently instead of back in the day we wouldnt support them at all. I think people who arent from here dont understand the sports market.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:35 PM) It's not like the offer the Padres accepted was earth shattering. Viciedo + Flowers + Escobar is probably the best we could put together right now. The thing is that they offered Dunn awhile ago, and he was their #1 target from what I understand. Second, A-gon would have eliminated Paulie due to the contract extension and a redundant position. It makes no sense other than throwing s*** against the wall IMO.
  21. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:32 PM) Hearing #chisox made 2nd best offer to #padres for a-gon. Once they were told no, they went for dunn. - Jon Heyman I'm not going to pull punches here, I dont believe him at all.
  22. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) The real reason Hoyer traded AGon to the Red Sox is that Hoyer is obsessed with Casey Kelly and was blinded by hubris. I thought the deal fell apart? Sorry I just saw it went through this morning.
  23. This contract will be an albatross by the of the the term like the other giant contracts OF have inked before him. Just a dumbass move by a dumbass franchise.
