  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) You think if you told your boss that you had a problem drinking and you were going into rehab, and then your bosses Son went on twitter( or any social networking site in which coworkers could see what he said) and he put you on blast that it wouldnt be an HR nightmare that could result in your boss getting fired? I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that my boss would be fired on the spot. Thats not what happened. Oney knows this stuff first hand, he's been close to Bobby for years.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) I respect their right to be close as a family, but if this sort of thing is going to happen, then apparently "they" have no business managing a major league baseball team. This is not some AAA team in Bumf***, Nowhere or Caracas. So Ozzie should kill his kid? Oney is a 25 year old fan of the team, he is an adult. Ozzie is the manager and had nothing to do with anything you are debating. It may seem like a good platform for you to continue to call for his head, but this is outside of his scope. Maybe you should educate him on how to beat his grown up kids into silence?
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) For one, he should publicly denounce Oney and everything that he tweeted. Then he should address his entire team and let them know how something like this will never happen again. You expect him to go public denouncing his son? Apparently you dont understand how close that family is. I am sure there has been something said to the team, and if not, there will be. Of course you wont hear anything about it
  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 11:40 AM) They might but I do not think it is as much as we are making it out to be. Jake Peavy wanted nothing to do with the White Sox and Ozzie Guillen until he spoke to Scoot Linebrink. If the White Sox were such a disaster why would Linebrink convince Peavy to come there. Thorton did the same thing with Putz. Why did I never think of that nickname for him before?
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 11:39 AM) It's almost afternoon. (I'm also home with my kids who are still out of school) Besdies a shot of ouzo is good anytime when when gyros is served. I just had wishbone for breakfast and you are already making me hungry for lunch. I wish i was in DG thought because Gyros King still dominates the fast food places here in Greek Town.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) X2 with ouzo and a Coke Morning cocktails?
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) Players don't read websites like ESPN or Sports Illustrated? No, they arent obsessing over a twitter story and trying to analyze what it means for the White Sox. Like I said, I know a player that hasnt picked up a sports section in 5 years because its not worth even reading a tiny blurb talking about how a team should trade you. A twitter account and the perspective of a non-MLB employee is just not something they are overly concerned about. I understand you think its a HUGE deal, but I dont agree.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) And here's Sports Illustrated Keep googling, I didnt say you couldnt find the story on the internet, fact is the players arent doing the same thing. Play for the yankees one season and if you are that sensitive, you wouldnt last.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) Message board? This was on EPSN.com's front page. Its still on there? And I didnt say read on a message board, I said message board hounds, you know, like us. Players just dont give a crap about the media as much as you think they do. Oney Guillen's twitter page is probably the 1000th thing that a FA would consider when looking for a team. There are worse things printed in the NY post.
  10. Looks like all of the suspended Buckeyes are coming back for their senior year. Honestly, very surprising to me.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 10:26 AM) I'm sure this twitter crap with his son will strengthen that image. Players arent message board hounds that read everything and care about everything on the internet. I think you have them mistaken with fans. I know a player that hasnt picked up a news paper in over 5 years. They dont care as much as you think they do.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) I don't see how you could say that. This poll indicates quite clearly that there are quite a few players out there that would never want to play for an Ozzie led club. And Lou Piniella, and Tony LaRussa. Good poll.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 10:17 AM) It was a sample of 100 random players. The question was who you'd LEAST like to play for and he came in first. LINK So he came to mind when a few players were asked. Basically meaning nothing. Ozzie is a players manager, mostly because its one of his only strengths.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) Not according to player polls of who they'd like to play for. He came in dead last. They polled every player and had them rate every manager in the game? Or just asked a small sample to write down who they would like to play for and he got the least amount of write in votes?
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 10:10 AM) A potential deadline free agent (with a NTC) weighing his options might not know those specifics and just assume a lot of this is on Ozzie. Players actually really like Ozzie for the most part, and if Oney Guillen's twitter account is your #1 reason keeping you from moving to a contending team at the deadline, you probably suck anyway.
  16. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) REALLY? The packers have been one of the unluckiest teams in football this year. If any team in the NFL (definately including the bears in this one) were to lose their starting RB one of the top 2 CB on their roster at the time (Al Harris), their 2nd best reciever (donald driver missed a few games) their top TE for the season (Finley), Nick Barnett going down for the season, their defensive line has been banged up all season, not to mention aaron rodgers got a concussion in that detroit game so it was Matt Flynn against the 3rd string QB in the 2nd half of that game Anyone who suggests the Bears are the superior of the two teams are crazy, i know they cant control who they play but their strength of schedule was horrible That sounds alot like every NFL team. And so far the Bears are 1-0 vs Green Bay, so reality says they are the better team.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 06:19 AM) OK, but then how did he know about the marital problems and the drinking problems and the self diagnosis fantom injury? You don't really believe Oney is being straight when saying he doesn't discuss any White Sox stuff with Ozzie do you? Its not like Ozzie has ever been known to keep secrets. KW doesn't even discuss what he's working on with him anymore because Ozzie eventually leaks it. That said, I think everything will be fine if Ozzie steps up and gets Oney out of the picture once and for all. I dont think any of this has to do with Ozzie "leaking" information. Oney has been friends with Bobby for 5 years socially and knows and speaks with alot of the players. He knows this stuff first hand, not "over the dinner table" like people seem to think.
  18. Looked like Baylor spent more time practicing their handshake routines than actual football.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) I know this is a pretty PS3-heavy board but is anyone here going to mess with the Kinect? Or the PS Move, for that matter? Motion sensing is pretty much a gimmick and the Wii has peaked, now it's up to somebody to actually get the ball rolling again I have the Move. Its pretty cool, but the game selection is really limited. Its about 1000 times more sensitive than the Wii as far as movements go which is fun most of the time. The new Tiger Woods gave on the move basically uses your own swing, which for most of us is not a good thing.
  20. QUOTE (Felix @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 12:20 AM) Let me rephrase: if you like outdoorsy sorts of things, Salt Lake City is a great place to live. There are tons of options all within driving distance, and it's really a beautiful area. Even I'm not the biggest outdoorsman, but I lived there for a summer a couple years ago and really, really loved it. As for the team, the city basically lives and breathes Jazz. They have no other professional sport (unless you're counting the Utah Flash in Orem or the Salt Lake Bees, who don't play during the same season), and the fans are incredibly devout. EnergySolutions Arena is a great environment, and any player would love playing in front of those fans night in and out. SLC rules, anyone who says different was stuck in the Hilton the entire time. You are about 20-30 min from one of the best ski resorts in the entire Rocky Mountains, unlike Denver where you have to drive 3+ hours. There is a ton of great housing and most of the nightlife institutions brew their own beer because of the loopholes in the liquor laws. In the summer months you have a TON of sun and enormous amounts of outdoor activities to partake in. The pricing for almost everything is reasonable. I have found it to be a great city to spend time in.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) Yeah, as I've said, they've played Oakland, UNC Ashville, South Carolina, Florida Golf Coast, Western Carolina, and IUPUI since playing at FSU (in which they played 6 guys). That makes it very, very easy to clear your bench off. Matta doesn't like to go very deep into his bench. We'll see how he handles it during Big Ten play, but I have a suspicion we won't see much different. Maybe, maybe 8, but not 9. The only reason he hasnt gone deep the last few years is because he didnt have a bench. He has a ridiculous amount of young talent sitting there this year and I suspect he will go 8 deep regularly, 9 if there is foul trouble. All of the guys has has been bringing off the bench in blowouts will play minutes in league play with the exception of JD Weatherspoon. He's just a dunker at this point. And as for the teams above, IUPUI, Oakland and SC werent supposed to be pushovers.
  22. QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 23, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) IMO classless is a perfect and fitting tribute for Chelios. I love Chelios. Both the guy and the player. Easily one of my all time favorite Hawks.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 10:33 PM) You mean they've gone to a 7 man rotation? Seriously though, that's easy to say when you play nobody. In their two "tough" games, they've legitimately only gone 6 deep. Depth looks to be their biggest issue, not strength. You obviously havent seen any games lately. Especially when Lenzelle got back they've gone very deep on their bench. Lighty Diebler Buford Lauderdale Sullinger Craft Siebert Thomas Smith Jr Thats 9 legitimate players deep on a team that hasnt gone more than 6 or 7 in many years. I am not talking about the rotation either, when I seen "deep" I mean talent-wise. They are bringing 2 of the best freshman in the conference off of the bench in Craft and Thomas, and they are contributing HUGE both offensively and defensively. Depth is not an issue at all.
  24. This is by far the deepest OSU team I have seen since the 90's
  25. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) DOH! I forgot to put that on my christmas list! its pretty awesome. I am basically only playing as the Bulls, Rose/Boozer or Rose/Noah since Deng is worthless. Ok City is good as well.
