  1. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 11:40 AM) Okay hes 43 and bad. There are better replacement level shortstops out there than Vizquel. The "teach Alexei things" is just an idiotic argument because you assume that Alexei has room to improve. He's 28 (I said 27 earlier I misspoke) entering the peak of his career. It's pretty silly to say he can improve on defense at that age when really, defense is the first set of skills to deteriorate. Peak of his career huh? Entering his second season playing SS in the major leagues and he's already peaked? I guess I didnt know that you couldnt learn anything about playing defense once you hit 28 years old.
  2. Or maybe KW has a trade in place where either NIx or Alexei are on their way out.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) This guy acts like he is all tough but sucks at challenges. He is usually always the first guy out or close to the first one. And his wife, Melinda, is not that good looking. IMO. Kelly Anne 24/7
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 08:46 AM) I think so far the early season is pretty typical. There's so much hype with some of these teams we expect them to be perfect in order to justify the lofty rankings. OSU looked pretty flat most of the night. Lots of standing around. I wasn't too impressed with UNC either. But I'm sure all that will change by the end of the year. Dont get me thinking about the tourney this early!!!
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) Jesus... what a beating. Anyone see that sick pass from Kane to set up Versteeg? Awesome. Those guys have unbelievable chemistry on the ice.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 11:53 PM) They don't bother with defense and don't have any sort of plan on offense. Defensively they are still adjusting to going back to man to man, but on offense its tough to look good when your best players are going 3-16 etc and not hitting shots. Turner had to go at it alone for alot of the game which made him turn the ball over quite a bit. They have alot of growing to do this year.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 11:30 PM) tOSU is a glorified AAU team Not really sure what that means, they are all teenagers? The Buckeyes just couldnt shoot tonight, but still put up a good fight. If they dont miss all of their shots in the first half I think that game goes to them.
  8. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) Cal/Stanford??? HAHA. 88, 89 and 90 were on today, Chris Speilman is so freaking awesome. But I disliked John Cooper to the point I had to turn 89 off.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) To get them acclimated with your fridge temperature. The mountains on the coors are now a deep blue.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) He's a reasonable option to fill an OF spot. There's more than a few of those available though. He'd probably be somewhere around average for us with the bat, and I'd be willing to take average. No one's going to race out and give him a huge contract before January through, so, like filling the DH spot, patience young Jedi. Who even knows what kind of contracts are going to be given out at this point anyway, when i see the Cubs signing Grabow to a 7 million dollar contract I am thinking we wont be able to afford anything of substance.
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) My guess is that if he had gone on to football they would have changed him to a LB/DE at OSU. And he wasnt just all-state, he was 1st team all state as a sophomore. Definitely a DE at OSU, they love the tall lean guys that can fill out and run.
  12. Morel is looking like he likes the competition.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) Yea I believe he was an all state/city WR in high school. He's bulked up more since then, and his athleticism is just too ridiculous to not see it translate. A 6'8 270 (which many say he's really listed) pound man can handle the NFL. The question would be.. can he catch the damn ball consistently as a WR/TE. (and even block, though he's a pretty physical dude) If he really put in the time, I think he could actually be pretty good (though I highly doubt if he will ever be the star, or even the best at his position, like he is in basketball) On some of the terrible teams though.. he would probably be their (or one of) best player(s). And for those who dont think being All-State is that big of a deal, it was in Ohio which is one of the richest states in the country in terms of football talent, that is no small feat at all.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) I don't know what basketball-related abilities help you when getting pummeled by 275lb linebackers flying at you. Body control, coordination, explosiveness, leaping ability, being almost the same size if not bigger than some NFL LB's helps as well.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) That's right... Danny. Ya, some dude sucker punched his face into his brain.
  16. QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) Brooks response: Joey, Thanks for the note and idea. Only issue we run into comes with serving and selling food outside the walls of the ballpark. That requires an additional permit, one we are not able to obtain on a daily basis. I always thought it was cool coming out of a Yankees game and seeing the vendors lined up. Really appreciate you reaching out. Brooks Brooks is f***ing awesome.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) From what I remember from his Real World season, Brad makes a habit of getting his eye blown up. That was him, right? Got the eye-socket busted up and daddy had to come down? Nah, I think that was the dude from Boston that married that super hot chick. He was on the Austin cast I believe, dented his face.
  18. Why would Brad challenge a boxer to fight, even when drunk? His eye was blown up! Funny how Evan and Kenny stay out of everything, including the ruins.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) Ohio State should win, but that doesn't mean they will. I still don't buy UNC as a top 5 team this year, but we'll see. They're still a very, very solid team but next year is when they will be back into the elite IMO. I dont know if they SHOULD win, but they certainly have a good shot, and that shot's name is Evan Turner. If he plays like he has been and Buford and Diebler drop 3's they have a great shot.
  20. Dammit, for some reason I thought UNC v OSU was on tonight. Why the f*** did I buy all these beers then?
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) I suspect he's #3. I'd put Buehrle at two and Ozzie doesn't slot back to back LHP's. Peavy Buehrle Floyd Danks Garcia. That rotation is so f***ing filthy, its hilarious we are debating the difference between our #3 and #4 guys when they are both pretty awesome. Seeing Peavy's name at the top of that list still amazes me.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) Thanks for your contribution, and welcome to the board, Chris! I tend to disagree on the tone of the article hinting at the trade being anything more than how it was stated - preliminary discussions. The attempt was made to make sure it was properly couched that way. Others may take that and leap to other conclusions. But otherwise, I think your post here is spot on. Keep up the good work! I wanted to add that you have done a great job of expanding your knowledge of both the sport and the Sox since you took that job Chris, not everyone has that dedication. I know when you were first hired that your buddies used to joke about it quite a bit, but I think you've more than proven yourself the last few years. And Cowley is still an unprofessional douchenozzle, but I know you probably cant put that out in the open.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 07:37 PM) I wouldn't trade Huet. I wouldn't be comfortable with Niemi going forward. Despite having a super deep farm, the Hawks do not have a stud goalie down there. I'd trade Campbell for a guy making half of his salary then a 2nd or 3rd round pick. The guy is one of the Hawks worst players yet he's the highest paid. After the year, I'm guessing they'll be looking at dealing Versteeg, Barker, Sharp, and MAYBE Seabrook. Hjalmarsson has been a pleasant surprise and so that might put Seabs on the market. Trading Versteeg would be a huge mistake IMO. If they rid themselves of Soup and Huet's contracts we could keep some of the role guys around for a little longer, but there will have to be some turnover of guys like Bolland, Buff etc.
  24. Ha, I didnt even notice that ESPN classic was showing THE GAME highlights throughout the years.
