QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:45 AM) Probably won't be able to watch today, that might be a good thing. I hope we can win and get this s*** figured out, but I am not hopeful. 5 games and counting... fyi i believe the metrodome will still be the home of the vikings, so unfortunately we don't get the pleasure of watching that thing crumble to the ground...but at least the twins will be outdoors finally

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 12:58 AM) To his credit, A.J. has become a better defensive catcher over the past year and a half. He's also swinging the bat nicely. Plus, I don't think that Flowers is anywhere near ready right now. i'll agree that AJ has swung the bat nicely this year.....but i'm not sure we are watching the same games regarding AJs defense. He has become the worst defensive catcher i have ever seen play on an everyday basis. He lazily tries to stab and pick the ball instead of getting his ass down and blocking it. when he does try to block it, he's late getting down and doesn't smother it well. He also has a horrendous throwing arm. Everyone complains about how our pitchers are so slow to the plate, and thats the reason why AJ can't throw anyone out. Well, Buerhle is just about the best in the league at holding runners, Richard is well above average, Danks is above average, Colon has been above average at it in his career. The two slow ones are contreras (who is really bad) and floyd who is bad, but a good throwing catcher would be OK with floyd on the bump. He has a slow release, doesn't throw hard, and is VERY inaccurate. I caution Sox fans to not allow hawks BS about AJs defense cloud their own judgement. not that Alexei is ozzie smith out there, but AJ is the last person who should be criticizing someones defense, especially since alexei had little chance to block that throw the threw into second

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) This thread is way too preachy. agreed. you can believe in stones, as long as you don't throw them at me

wallace can really hit. he's a pure hitter, and has some pop too. just looking at his body though theres no way he sticks at 3b. either way that would be a nice piece for the A's to nab

MARK BUEHRLE PITCHES THE 18TH PERFECT GAME IN HISTORY
daa84 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The fact that Mark Buehrle is the only pitcher in mlb history to face the minimum in 3 separate games is ridiculously awesome The guy has racked some pretty impressive career achievements. World Series Ring A start, and a SAVE in the world series An ALDS win, an ALCS win and complete game. 9 consecutive seasons with 10+ wins, including 15+ in 5 of them (probably 6 after this year, with an outside shot at 20 this year) 133 Career wins. 200 is easily within reach and 250 is within the realm of possibility (if he has a kenny rogers-esque career 300 isn't impossible) 4 All star games, including starting and getting the W in one 2 No hitters 1 Perfect game 3 Times facing the minimum Only pitcher ever to lose a game while never having a guy on base HR in interleague play -

couldn't happen to a better guy. Without a doubt my favorite current ChiSox, and right up there with Thomas for #1 alltime -
Rays vs Sox (Kazmir vs Buehrle) 1:05CDT CSN

QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) Did Fields actually hit a fastball? He had to start swinging when the ball left Kazmir's hand. it was a nice piece of hitting....3-1 with the bases loaded he was sitting dead red, and got one in the wheelhouse and did not miss it -

i know most on here disagree with me, but i'm not convinced josh fields won't be a solid 3b someday. I'm not convinced that he will be either, but i guess i'm not ready to give up on the guy...BA on the other hand... -
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) He really hasn't under Ozzie. I mean, come on, he's gotten benched and sent down this season in favor of Dewayne f'n Wise. There's no reason why he shouldn't have been our every-day CF for most of this season (until Pods crowded him out). And even then, he should've stayed on the 25-man roster. I agree that Anderson probably isn't a starting ML center fielder. But at the very least, he'd be a good fourth outfielder on most teams and an excellent defensive replacement. anderson had every opportunity to be the everyday CF when quentin went down, but he didnt get it done. He had the opportunity, but he didn't seize it. He's been benched and sent down because when he played everyday, he sucked. the guy simply can't hit major league pitching

brian anderson has a .225/.288/.364 line in 782 career major league ABs. 782! people still treat the guy like he's never gotten a shot at success but thats not true at all really...he's a good defensive player, probably better than good...but he's not a starting calibur major league player...so if we can get anything of value for him, i'd be happy

supposedly 90% of the tickets they give out are on people who fail to make a complete stop when turning right on red....which is bulls*** because i feel like thats hardly a problem that is unsafe
