  1. would you walk bonds in this situation?
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 09:50 PM) My grades: 23.) Jared Mitchel, C+ - Not terrible, but not great. Has a really high ceiling, his floor is extremely low. Boom or bust type of player. If he pans out though, he'll provide quite the offensive weapon at the top of the order we've been lacking. 38.) Josh Phegley, B - I love this pick, but the only thing holding it back from an A is if he can stick behind the plate or not. Very developed and advanced bat and can really hit. Plus, the more I've read about him, the more I think he could stick behind the plate; supposedly really smart, calls a good game, and has a very strong arm. 61.) Trayce Thompson, C+ - Not a terrible pick, but there are some concerns. He's got a lot of upside and is very athletic, but is also very raw and looks to possibly be a tough sign. Would have really preferred Max Walla here if we wanted a HS OF. 71.) David Holmberg, D - Hate it. Looks like a repeat of the Justin Edwards pick from 2006. A lefty who lacks the stuff to be good, but is an advanced pitcher. Dream scenario for round 2 would have been Garret Gould at 61 and Max Walla at 71. 102.) Bryan Morgado, C - I like it. Seems to have really good stuff but is very raw and needs refinement. We've had success in the past with similar players, but this is still a high risk, high reward type of pick so early in the draft. Overall, C- how come we never have one of those drafts where you look back and are like....f*** i like every pick we took.. kind of like the bears had this year...despite not having a top 2 round pick
  3. plantar fasciitis is a biotch....only real thing that helps is rest...it can linger for a long, long time
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) It would have to be a 3 way trade with Dotel going there and Utley to the Cubs and Reed Johnson here. its too bad they released gathright.....
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) PK has turned into the king of warning track power. Hopefully when it gets a little warmer, the ball will travel 10 more feet. If not, then you might want to trade him while he still has value. i have a feeling you and i are on the same page in thinking where the WTP came from
  6. i wont have as much info as dasox does...but i got a contact who used to work for the vandy team and now works for a tennessee based baseball agent that represents some decent names that just texted me "morgado is awful"
  7. wouldn't mind ben tootle here....he's probably a reliever but i think he's good value at this point
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 09:09 PM) Second guessing cracks me up. Nobody blames Mark for walking the first two guys. Especially when Raburn may have been trying to give up an out. i came into the gamethread specifically to post how dumb it was for ozzie to not use thornton.....im going back to the draft thread now
  9. thats just awful, awful, awful managing by ozzie.....Granderson has a slider speed bat and can't hit lefties (except buerhle) and we decide to walk him to get to polanco who just destroys us....Thornton would have sat Granderson down easy and I have very little doubt about it.....I am absolutely livid at ozzie right now
  10. one of the dumbest managerial moves i've seen in some time
  11. Give me Thornton vs. granderson over Dotel vs. Polanco everyday of the week.... this is just a stupid, stupid decision
  12. how strong is hte commitment to UCLA? what are the odds we don't sign this kid?
  13. sounds like a high upside guy
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:22 PM) "Hi everybody I'm Tommy Lasorda." "and i love hookers"
  15. brooks pounders....sweet name
  16. its pretty cool to see the former players announce their teams picks....
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) Draft tracker stalled again...can someone link me to a working one? stopped for me too...what a piece of crap.... also congrats on gaining the second row of squares that tracks your post count
  18. since this has turned into a quasi game thread....i love gordon beckhams approach...hes been up the middle -other way in everyone of his ABs
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) I don't think so cause there is no guarantee Phegley can stick behind the plate. according to keith law at espn (who most people don't trust but still he knows more than we all do) he was a sandwich pick if teams thought he would stick at C and probably shouldn't have been any higher than 5th rounder if hes not
  20. probably would have been there later, and shaky defensively...wonder if this means the sox think flowers is going to be at 1b eventually...if we were going to go for a position player i would have preferred williams
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:58 PM) EvWill still there we are so shallow on arms in our system though...but w/e take the best player available and im ok with it
  22. i admittedly know jack s*** about these guys, but what i do know is that mitchell was ranked by many experts to be ranked behind several guys that were available....i also am always concerned when the best tool a guy has is his speed...though i will admit i love the fact that he drew 52 BBs this year
