Holla if you like them. The Graduate is a better movie for having used a few of their songs.
-
Didn't Oliver Stone touch on it in his movie circa mid-80s? With James Wood, no?
-
I've never suffered the kind of gut-twisting indignity that comes with having one of my posts deleted. Up until today, that is. I might not survive two in one day.
-
Not bad for an inbred honkey.

What makes you say that? I hope you can keep your response to one sentence or less. I don't know about "teaching to kill", but video games (along with movies, television, computers, cars, etc, etc) DO affect and transform child psyche in myriad subtle and not-so-subtle ways. Aggression ,attention deficit and apathy are just a few by-products of modern age. But who knows really.

I am not saying Marlins lack the capacity to unearth minor league gems. What I AM saying is...it WON'T be Sisco, Brownlie or Guzman, unless one of them is injured in which case Marlins won't take anyway.
-
Castillo? Sox CAN'T afford to pay 7-8+ Mill a year for someone who even after a very good 2003, still has a 720 career OPS.....and who got caught so much in 2003 that it raised questions whether, as fast as he is, he should even be attempting steals.....................If Sox couldn't pay 6 million to a fan favorite Ray Durham back when the payroll was over 60 Mill, what makes you think they will to someone with better defense, but much less power and worse BR instincts? Plus, LC was BAD in the playoffs. Alomar? Do you really think Robbie the Prince is gonna settle for 2 year/5 Mill after making 8.5 Mill in 2003? And he isn't worth more than that. Let's face it: Sox paying Valentin way too much money pretty much guarantees you will NOT see Cameron in CF, Castillo at 2B or Ponson on the mound.
-
Willie Harris will surprise a lot of people before it's all said and done. BUT we all should remember that throughout baseball, there were COUNTLESS minor leaguers who hit 40+ homers with 130+ RBIs who NEVER saw the light of day in the bigs, let alone produced at similar level. There was a guy from some Texas league who is reported to hit 70 homers and 200+ RBI in something like 135 games in 1947 or something like that. cwsox?

It's MARLINS we're talking about: they can't afford Lee, so they are in no position to be asking for phenom prospects. Hendry won't give up Sisco-Guzman-Brownlie unless it's for someone like Shilling. Cubs weren't desperate to get Lee afterall. Let's just hope everytihng backfires, Zambrano, Lofton and Borowski return to earth, and Cubs become the embrassment of MLB with Sosa and steroids in 2004...while they Sox pull a Marlin.
-
Forgot to add that Lee can RUN as well, though there is NO WAY he should be attempting so many steals because he gets caught so much.
-
I don't see why not. Cubs have the money to pay Lee and they made a KILLING in the 6 playoff home games. They're gonna have about 90-95 Mill to spend in 2004. Bastards. With wind blowing out and power gaps of only 365 feet, Gold-Glover D. Lee is probably an 900 OPS/110 RBI player next year.......unless he chokes under big-city pressure. Unlikely, but I hope he does. A healthy Choi will be a good player. Doesn't have the batspeed to be a super-star, but then again with his natural strenght (was hitting lineout homers 420 feet to CF in April), excellent batting EYE and work ethic, he will more than compensate. Give him 400-500 more atbats and you'll see. Underrated defense and not as slow as size would suggest. He is also not a FA until, what, 2007. Hendry is a pro, and there is NO way that minor leaguer is Brownlie, Guzman or Sisco......unless Angels surgery was more serious that they make it out to be.
-
And Bears still won't make playoffs. 6-10 record rarely does. I would have preferred Bears finishing 2-14 and getting Manning in the draft. Oh, and Terrel/White is the worst starting WR duo in the league or just about. Hardheaded pussies with no vision or footwork, and hands of stone.
-
I dunno, I like them. I just do. Melanin seriously rules. Anyone else?
-
Spin it anyway you like, Bulls are 4-12 and what's worse, are looking real BAD. If they stop caring, they might lose 60, though 32-50 is more likely Subpar offense AND really bad defense? Yeah, playoffs here we come. Fork sticking and all.
-
Stupid Rebecca. I actually thought Soxtalk was over when I couldn't get in for almost a week. I am glad it's not.
-
The money, how much did Anderson go for? If they got him for cheaper than 3 Mill, they got themselves a steal. Did I mention that Ponson is not worth a penny over 6 Mill? Yes, I think I did. But just in case.
-
Tony, there is NO f***ING FORCEOUT at 3rd with NOBODY on 1st!!!! And, say, whatever happened to my avatar thingy? The hell.

Hakan Sukur from Turkey (not Suker from Croatio) has long been a very underrated player because he spent most of his time playing for his Turkish team. Always liked his style, he probably washed up now.

1 and 2. Ronaldo and Rivaldo single-handedly won the frigging World Cup just a year ago, something only a few players have done in the history of the game. Should count for something, no? 3. 32 is not that old in soccer. Cameroon's Mila was still good at 40. Wasn't Figu players of the year back in 2001? Has he declined that fast? 4. Granted I remember Vierri and Crespo from about 2-3 years back, but back then Vierri was simply a better striker- more dangerous, with more goals, the most impoirtant for a forward. Crespo wasn;t as good as aging Batistuta back then. Is he much better now? oes he compare favorably with old Claudio Caniga? 5. Del Pierro was awesome in mid-90's when he just came up and played for Juventus against Barusia Dortmund squad in LC. Too bad about knee injures, almost impossible to recover. 6. Probably true. What about Sytchev and Shevchenko? Any good?
-
No s***: if we somehow knew what we would get with Koch and Rock White, they would've sat and Sox would have been in the friggin' POST-SEASON. It's called "addition by sittheirassdown"
-
Word on his age. Word on his injuries. Word on his good-but-not-great season in which he blew every other save. At 2.5 Mill/1 year deal I could take a chance. 2 year/10 Mill? No thanks. I seem to remember one Gordon moment: Metrodome, tie ballgame, bases loaded, bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, 3-2 breaking pitch to AJ Pirzinki that the latter missed by almost a foot even though it was pretty much down the middle. Very instense moment.
-
No Ronaldo? Rivaldo? Figu? Vieri? Del Piero? Owens?
-
Suker is from Croatia and he is long past his prime. The point is that when he was at his best in the 90's, he was single-handedly beating teams in Spanish premiere league (led it in scoring in number of years) AND if I recall had a hellava 1998 World Cup. The list admitedly is comprised of players from the last decade+, EXAMPLES of players who in their heyday were were pretty damn good, both on club- and national team levels. I already said that I haven't followed soccer in 3-4 years at least, so you should take the list and think of who among the CURRENT players (some still play obvisouly) is comparable.

Well f*** me gently with a chain-saw, the arguement could be made that Mark Grudzelanek was the NL MVP....It's biased and/or stupid, but it can be made, that's what's important, right? Most Valuable Player IS (or should be) the BEST player. Period. It's one thing if you don't want to give it to A-Rod because you feel that there is another player in the league whose VALUE is higher (read: one who is objectively worth more in terms of runs/wins because if his defense-offense-running). I mean, there is certainly lots of room for debate within the "Best Player" guidelines because different people weigh stats differently, overrating one aspect of the game and underrating another. I have NO problem with those who disagree with me IF they present a well thought-out and fair arguement. (Example: it's perfectly reasonable to choose Delgado because of his RBI production, etc). However, as soon as you concede that MVP should be team record-related first and foremost, you open the door for all sorts of uninformed and biased nonsense.

I haven;t followed soccer in a few years, but any top 10 should ONLY be comprised with IMPACT players who can singlehandedly change the flow of the game, NOT mere finishers or role players. Consistency is important as well, not just one-year wonders. Examples: Ronaldo is such a player. Vierri, Raul and Del Pierro used to be, but I hear not anymore. Zidan was. Romario. Stoichkov. Boksic. Suker. Van Basten. Klinsmman. R. Baggio. Maradonna. Josef Mila and his Camerooon teammate who retied about 7 years ago. Berkamp, Amochaci, Veah used to be. Rivaldo. Figu. That German of East-european descent whose name escapes me. Batistuta Owens R-Carlos. I am surprised Rafa hasn't weighted in- he is more up to date with current players, but beware the list might be Brazil-heavy
