QUOTE(shipps @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 08:57 AM) Who is the last thirdbase coach that anyone has liked?I cant think of one. I guess you could make a case for Larry Bowa for the Yankees. no one's called for his head. plus he's the only other 3rd base coach I can name. I think Dale Sveum is with the Brewers now, but Red Sox fans hated him. then there was Wendell Kim with the Cubs, and now Joey Cora with the White Sox. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 09:27 AM) Maybe the next one hired should be given the instructions " only wave runners home when you are very confident that they will be called safe at the plate". Instead of " if you think they have a chance to score, wave them in ". I think we'll like the next coach a lot better that way. there was a lot of good from Cora last year. I can remember multiple instances last year where Cora sent a runner home on a hit to the outfield, and the only reason the runner was safe was because the fielder bobbled or misplayed the ball. now was the pressure of the runner being sent home why the fielder botched the play? or were the runner and Cora just lucky?

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) This seems to be the White Sox Catch All-Thread at the moment, so I'll post this here. The White Sox went from 9th to 3rd in Runs and 1st to 10th in ERA from 2005 to 2006. It's clear that the pitching was a major problem, so I am in no way placing much blame on the offensive side of things, however... When you have a line-up with Konerko, Thome, and Dye would you rather surround them with players who get on base or guys who play all or nothing style baseball as the White Sox had. I ask this because everybody seems so high on Crede here, but if the White Sox 7-8-9 hadn't gotten on base at such a low clip (.323, .290, .257 respectively) I happen to believe that this team would have been a better all around baseball team. Rally Crede, his great defense, I'm trying not to be close minded here, I just happen to think in a line-up full of big boppers, you need the table setters to, and the demise of the 2006 White Sox could be somewhat credited to the lack of the Bill Mueller's for the Red Sox in '04, the Castillo's and Lowell's of the '03 Marlins, the David Eckstein's and Scott Spiezio's of the '02 Angels and so on.. Thoughts. if you're talking about table-setters, then the issue lies in Pods. our 7-8-9 hitters are better than last year with Crede's emergence making up for Anderson/Mackowiak taking Rowand's place. our 7-8-9 hitters' OBP in 2005 wasn't any better than that .323, .290, .257 you spoke of. furthermore, the only real differences in the lineup were Thome instead of Everett, Crede hitting and Anderson/Mackowiak for Rowand. Rowand grounded into a lot of double plays, and Everett was never that integral in small-ball.

the NY newspapers say Steinbrenner is going to take another day to decide. The NY Post, however, says that Torre's going nowhere. but like I said, this happens every year. Yankees lose, Steinbrenner blows a gasket, papers say Torre's going to go. wasn't Piniella supposed to replace Torre last year?

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) ...And you are throwing up at the idea of Alex Rodriguez for $16 million per year why? uuuhh...I don't think I ever implied I was "throwing up" at the idea of A-Rod for that price...nope, didn't happen. no implication that I was throwing up at the idea. but having A-Rod for as much as we're paying Konerko, Thome and Vazquez? that is ovulicious.
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Garcia is on the hook for $10 million next season, Crede is due for a hefty raise before 2010. It would be an almost even trade-off if the deal does revolve around Crede and Garcia. yeah, and I'm not KW, but what if the Yankees would pick up the tab? I'm just floating the idea, seeing as how I have never met, spoken to, or read the minds of KW or Brian Cashman. I'm also ovulating at the idea of having A-Rod around at $12 mil per.

I did not see the Tigers' starters coming through like they have. I thought Verlander would falter and I expect him to in his next start. I've been thinking Rogers would crumble since July, but that hasn't happened either. and how hasn't Todd Jones been scorched in every save opportunity? I'm growing increasingly bitter. I need to get out of here and back to my apartment so I can watch the 2005 World Series and Sox Pride DVDs.
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) Why would the Yankees pay money to get rid of him? they wouldn't be paying much, but how many teams have the money to take on even $16 million? I think we're on the hook for $100 million or more for seven or eight players next year. I can never remember the specifics on that.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) The Yankees haven't had the best offense in major league history before either. A .340 hitter hitting 9th? There's enough reason to believe it this time. the thing is, it's hard to win when you have no pitching. the Yankees just about need 8 runs per game to win this series. no matter the lineup, if you can't even come close to matching the other team's pitchers, no matter how good your offense, you're f***ed. we all know that watching the Sox the past two years, winning last year and losing this year, despite a damn good offense.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Rodriguez is payed $16 million by the Yankees, as a short stop that's a relatively fair price. Crede, Garcia for Alex Rodriguez is a fair deal for both teams and it makes a boatload of sense. even further, how much of the tab would the Yankees be picking up for us? if he's making $22 or $23 million next year, and Texas is paying enough to lower it to $16, will the Yankees pick up 3 or 4 million of it for us? now I'm confused. could we have A-Rod for $12 million dollars?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) Greg im just going to say this, the majority of time when just about everyone disagrees with you, your usually the one in the wrong. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) How can anyone be wrong who has an opinion about baseball? Do we need go get out our resumes? Yes I played the game. Yes I follow the White Sox closely and have for a long time. this is stupid. it's all opinions. I guess people are going to get annoyed when you pass your opinions as fact, which maybe you tend to do (I don't know, I don't post enough). I'm just irritated because I saw a new post here, jumped to respond, and saw it was this. I want to discuss White Sox baseball, dammit, and you're all making it difficult for me, not posting and all.

this happens every year. Yankees lose, Torre's out. except the latter doesn't actually happen.

QUOTE(shipps @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 03:33 AM) Verlander really grew up in this series.I thought he would struggle considering he crapped his pants anytime he pitched a big game.I thought for sure he would give up a big inning with all the men he had on base. Leyland really is a damn good manager. I'm sure a lot of you heard the story on Sportscenter, where he walked to the mound after Damon's homerun and told Verlander that Mussina still had to hold the lead. but the Tigers winning it all would be too much for me. they're basically in the mold of the 2005 White Sox, so I want to see an A's sweep.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) Did you read ARod's quotes this morning. He said he sucked. Miguel Tejada didn't get traded because he refused to play 3rd base. He'd rather be guaranteed a losing team and play SS, instead of trying to win and play 3B. ARod, the best all around player in the game, and a better defensive SS than Jeter, moved to 3B willingly. ARods place in the history of the game when its all said and done would shine even brighter if he was known as a SS, but that didn't matter to him, he wanted to win. They money thing is so laughable. If someone offered anyone on this board $252 guaranteed for 10 years, I don't think most of the people crying about his paycheck would turn it down, and that's hypocritical. Its not ARod's fault he gets a boatload of money. I believe he restructured his contract as much as the union would allow him to even take less to try and win with the Yankees. The guy gets a bad rap. He's a great player, and will thrive if he gets out of NY. He hasn't exactly been awful overall with the Yankees either. If Frank Thomas put up the numbers ARod put up the last 3 years, people here would be demanding statues of him all over the city, they would demand that USCF be called Frank Thomas Field. For ARod, its just very mediocre. I heard them on Sportscenter. I'm talking about a lot of the in-between stuff. he has asked why he's being booed in the past. that's the difference I was focusing on.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 03:41 AM) The NL was so pathetic this year that this thread should never have been started. I don't think that was considered when this thread was started. like how the White Sox finished with 8 more wins than the Astros, but against better competition.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 07:37 AM) I just read through this thread and there is one thing I don't get, how is ARod's $25M salary cancerous but Jeter's $19M (soon to be $20M) not? So just to get this straight $25M = Cancer but $20M = Jordan of baseball. because of how different the players are. if a player lives up to their paycheck, they won't be ripped. Jeter was ripped just as bad during his 0-for-32 slump, but all he ever said was "I suck right now" (paraphrased) and "I deserve to get booed." A-Rod says "I'm hitting .290-35-100, why are they booing me?"
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 01:28 AM) ARod's problem would not be Konerko, it would be Guillen. You need to ask yourself one question if you want to know whether or not ARod would have a problem here...who would Mariotti blame when the team didn't win 120 games and go wire to wire? ARod's only major competition in the media for control of this team would be Ozzie. grr...I meant to mention Ozzie. or the whole "hypocrite" comment fiasco. oh well. I need sleep. I can't comprehend the complexities of A-Rod on the White Sox. not now.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 01:26 AM) He is the scapegoat. They havent won a WS since 2000, and when he was brought over in 04, that was it. That was going to make them into a new dynasty. Well, things didnt work out so well. Your right with the money thing, and to be honest, it's actually pretty fair. With the amount of $$$ he makes, he deserves to take the heat when they dont win. HOWEVER, just because the Yanks staff has been in shambles the last two years, and they seem to forget about middle relief pitching doesnt mean all the fall has to go on Alex like it always seems.... what, Farnsworth and Dotel don't constitute middle relief? actually, I don't know why they'd think Dotel was any answer, a year and a half out of baseball.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) I'll give you the Jeter stuff, to be honest I forgot about that. To be honest though I'm sure after being criticized night after night it just came out, still doesn't make it right but he's human. He has taken some blame on himself and yes there has also been times where he doesn't take it, once again seems pretty normal to me. Maybe class act wasn't the right word to use but I certainly don't think he's an asshole and I don't think he'd have any problem in our clubhouse, that's what I should have said to begin with. IMO though, every thing comes back to the money. when I think more about this, maybe A-Rod wouldn't be a good fit. think, he was happy on Texas, the team sucked, but he was unquestionably "the man." on the Yankees, Jeter is "the man," and A-Rod is second or third fiddle. in New York, A-Rod will never surpass Jeter. now it's weird in Chicago. Paulie's "the man" here, but he seems a quieter leader than Jeter. so would A-Rod's ego fit here? what exactly does A-Rod need to be happy, content, whatever?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 12:50 AM) Thank you Detroit. Thank you. It was hard for me to cheer for you after months of chasing you, and I'm still rooting for #35 to freaking destroy you...but thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the deed that Verlander, Rogers, and Bonderman have done. You have all made America a better place. I don't see why, probably because I would've liked to see Detroit flounder. I hope Big Frank takes it to the Tigers' pitching, maybe deposit a ball into the seats while their fans are doing the wave. and yes, I'm a little bitter. I need to watch the Sox Pride DVD.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 01:04 AM) ARod is the best defensive shortstop in baseball imo. you don't know that. he regressed at third after a year, if he were traded and moved back to SS he'd likely be shaking off cobwebs for a month or two. I think A-Rod's kind of a headcase, like he's thinking too much about his play. and I forgot to add this, but I always thought A-Rod was solid at SS. solid to a point where it would get him a Gold Glove, if you know what I'm saying. I think I need sleep, I'm making little sense, if any.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 04:55 PM) I just lost a little respect for Detroit when the started playing "Whoomp there it is!" when the score rose to 6-0. haven't they been doing the wave a lot there in Detroit? I'm suddenly rooting for the A's, and in a big way.

Leading off for the 2007 white sox will be....

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) Because Pierre can play Ozzieball, while Pods can't. Look at everything Ozzie is saying in the press: he wants guys who can bunt and make contact. Pods is a PATHETIC bunter, and he K's way too much for someone with no power. Pods isn't a pathetic bunter, he could be better, and he should try to bunt himself on more. personally, if I were going to get rid of Pods, it'd be because I'm tired of seeing him strike out looking. -

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 12:56 AM) If you are telling me Ozzie Guillen would prefer Juan Pierre over Ichiro, then you are completely out of your mind. I wouldn't say he'd prefer Ichiro, no strings attached. but you'd have to give up someone for Ichiro. honestly, why not stick with Pods if you're signing Pierre? bring in someone else, they're essentially the same player. if Pods can get healthy (if indeed he's injured, which is my theory), then it's pointless to sign Pierre. -
QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) I love Hawk I love hearing old-time baseball players tell stories. I would pay $20 to sit with Hawk for two hours and listen to him tell stories...$25 if Moose Skowron were involved.

I like the old school calls. "Can-of-corn" and "the Carmines" are two of my favorites. if we listen to this jerk, we should change the name of this board. Pale Hose Talk? what year is this?
