  1. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) sox pride just opened back up again. here's a perfect example of the logic used to close a thread. I'm closing this thread. Because nobody has anything new to say. It's a conspiracy, it's not. It's a conspiracy, it's not. This got talked out a month ago and its boring. -------------------- So if a thread is boring or repetitive to a moderator, it automatically gets closed??? I don't know, but I sure don't like where this thread is going...if only I were a moderator...
  2. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 06:10 PM) word. why get someone like Figgins or Pierre to lead off when we already have Pods? give him a few months to rest, I bet he comes back strong in 2007.
  3. QUOTE(marsh @ Sep 29, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) Wouldn't mind seeing Freel in left and Lugo at ss batting 1 & 2. Not sure how realistic it is. Reds won't part with Freel. at least not to my knowledge, although I think I read somewhere they won't. Lugo, however...
  4. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) How about Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale? Bastard too easy. Bob Gibson and Steve Carlton, anyone? it could be arguable.
  5. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) I really think we should trade Crede. His back terrifies me. But on the other hand, I think your dream team's payroll is about 120 million, and very old. it's not like back problems are recurring or anything.
  6. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) Nope, he didn't quit. He's just an overrated SS who can't hit his weight. his listed weight, or his actual weight?
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) Two things: - Crede's approach at the plate is just laughable right now. - Does anyone know what Thome is hitting against lefties since the ASB? .197...ouch.
  8. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) And to think that some Sox fans say that Juan Uribe is the best defensive SS in baseball. Laughable. HE QUIT ON THE TEAM! DID EVERYONE SEE THAT?! HE'S A QUITTER!
  9. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) Hey, you can contine sporting your superfan outfit and suggesting we "DON'T STOP BELIEVIN'" but I see no difference in how the season ends. Whether it's winning 8 of 10 or losing 10 straight. Hell, improve our draft position while we're at it. A good losing streak can help our position 4-5 spots!!!! Ultimately, I'm more interested in watching Sweeney/Fields/Haegar/Logan play than some veterans mailing it in the final week. f*** them. They had 152 games to prove themselves. Step off the field and let fans witness the future of this ballclub. I'll root for a Vazquez blowup if it means the remaining games are full of young prospects. What the hell does it matter if he pitches well with absolutely no pressure against a mediocre Seattle club? well shouldn't you hope your favorite team wins every game, regardless of whether or not the games matter? I don't know, that's just me. and why is that some people are saying this team has quit (I'm not saying you have), yet now you want them to quit? we'll see the future of the team in 2007, and even though it is unlikely we make the playoffs (to say the least), I want our best players giving their all until we are mathematically eliminated.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) Zito is an above average pitcher who's going to get Ace money this offseason. 3.91 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, .256 BAA, 95 BB/140 SO (this is just horrendous). 5 years, $12-$14M per for that? No thanks. surprisingly enough, he's always had a somewhat high walk rate. even in his Cy Young year he walked 3.06 per 9.
  11. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) I'm an A's fan for this October. I am too. I want to see Frank win a ring as an integral part. not complaining about how we won last year, but since Frank didn't get a Kirk Gibson moment, I want to see him win as an everyday performer.
  12. QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) Contreras to the Mets for Milledge?? that isn't far-fetched...no, not at all.
  13. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) Someone had to start it... Here's to starting an 11-game winning streak. are you adding a possible one-game playoff to that 11, because the regular season only has 10 games left. makes sense, if we can win 6 more games that Detroit these next two weeks. but does anyone see this happening?
  14. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) This team failed because of the break up of GROUP 4!!! I know it's a joke, but what if you're a believer in karma?
  15. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) That would be their nadir - the lowest point, the time of greatest depression or adversity. Sincerely, Dorkus Dweebington I didn't feel like searching for a word for it, so I kept it simple. thanks Mr. Dweebington.
  16. I'm conflicted. we beat Detroit tonight, there's 10 games left and 4 to make up. problem is, Tigers have 6 left versus the Royals, agaisnt whom they are 11-1 this season. so maybe the Royals are due to beat them, or maybe they stand a better chance because the last time these two teams played, the Tigers were at their apex and the Royals their apex of crappiness. Minny is 6-9 versus the Royals this year. we need help, but if we win tonight, it's possible to go 8-2 the rest of the way, and if Detroit goes 4-6, we've got a one-game playoff. can this be done? yes, but it's going to take a lot of help.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) No thanks, I think one long colective boo from 38,000 Sox fans from the 1st innning through the 9th on Sunday would get the point across. This team got a big enough head after winning the World Series, acting like they could just show up and the damn thing would just be handed to them. They had the whole offseason to celebrate their championship but sadly they decided to take an extra 6 months off for celebratory reasons. that's right, all hope is lost. boo everyone and everything, no matter if they're even in earshot. boo wins, boo losses, boo homers, boo strikeouts, boo the hot dog vendors. spare no one your booing. I'd say treat Sunday like any other game. they got their ovation for the World Series when they raised the banner and handed out the rings. quit living in the past, man...and it's been a week since I watched a World Series DVD, by the way.
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) I'll raise you Jorge Fabregas, Lyle Mouton and Mike Deveraux, boo, everytime these things are started, you all bring up Lyle Mouton...how about Chad Kreuter and Chirs Snopek?
  19. do we really need this thread? doesn't this kind of thing belong in Mariotti's next column?
  20. Detroit has KC six times the rest of the way. Minny has KC four. if they can play spoiler against of those teams, and the Sox don't blow it at home vs. Seattle and Detroit (knock on wood), then we're playing October baseball. it's going to be a ride...or a car crash. either or.
  21. QUOTE(chisox72 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) R.I.P. 2006 Thanks for the nausea. I really wish I could cancel my trip to Minny for the last three..... well, those games might mean something. I'll be the optimistic voice and say that this season is still salvageable. yes, this was rough (there's an understatement), but we always suck on these West Coast road trips. last season we went to Oakland and lost 2 of 3, but that trip was in July, thus not as crippling. don't get me wrong, this year's team isn't even close to as good as 2005, but nobody in the AL stands above the rest, so if the Sox can step up the rest of the way, we're in a dogfight in the postseason, and there will be no 11-1 runs. but that's if something can come around (hitting, pitching).
  22. Hawk and DJ mentioned it countless times, and Freddy didn't lose it until the 8th. by Mariotti's logic, Freddy should have lost it after the first time it was mentioned. so when they say "Freddy has retired every batter he's faced," is that jinxing it too? what constitutes jinxing it? I won't say the words "no-hitter" or "perfect game" when one's going on, but that's just me. maybe if you mention it and wouldn't normally mention it, then that jinxes it, because then not all is right in the world and therefore the world is not balanced enough to handle a perfect game. whatever. you know you're stretching for material when this is your topic for a column. I remember the 2004 ALCS, when Mussina had a no-no through 7 or 8, and Buck had been saying it for innings. Bill Simmons wrote about it...all of one sentence.
  23. well, [insert name of candy bar] gives him [insert bad punchline]. decent speculation based on very little. I don't know why they sometimes disclose that a pitcher got a cortisone shot, and other times they don't, like they apparently did with David Wells.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) Like I've said before, I will never give up on any White Sox team, ever. That being said, I have 0 confidence in this team and don't expect them to make the postseason and if they do, I expect a 1 and done. is this a reverse jinx thing you're working here, because every team is far from unbeatable. it may not be an 11-1 storm like last year, but I wouldn't expect a one-and-done. with the way things are right now, nothing would surprise me.
  25. this game has everything for me. a Greg NAAWW-ton sighting, and of course, bat flips. I love when players do the bat flip after hitting a homerun...or arguing balls and strikes.
