I'm thinking of finding someone who can make me t-shirt that says "Chicago Cubs - 1908 World Series Champs" and then giving it to my Cubs fan friend.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) I'm not sure if this was covered already (total thread derailment alert) but while I think ketchup on hot dogs is un-American (and definitely un-Chicagoan), while in Europe I did try french fries with mayo and as disgusting as it sounds it is delicious. I haven't tried to duplicate it here because it's just so many damn carbs, fat, calories, etc.--but as gross as it sounds they really do go together. Moving back on topic--kinda--my highlight of this month attending my first game was having my first polish "with" from the Cell. I live for those things. Just for the hell of it, I tried a brat but I was unimpressed. And believe it or not I don't think I've ever had a hot dog there. But them Polish... mmm... unless they're going to put everything on it for me, I'll be just as content with ketchup and/or mustard on my hotdog. if anyone here is the expatriate, it's you for eating your FREEDOM fries with mayo.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) Going to take exception to two of your points: 1) Throwing a HR ball back is for idiots and you don't need to be an old-timer to recognize that. 2) Miracle Whip is a condiment too, but it doesn't go on a hotdog. If the inventor of ketchup had known some people were going to abuse it and put it on hotdogs I bet he never would have followed through on the invention. Undoubtedly it was like Alfred Nobel and TNT for the Ketchup Guy - completely torn up with guilt over giving ketchup to the world, only to see it misused by the evil and amoral hotdog heretics. I bet the inventor of ketchup didn't intend for people to put it on ice cream and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, but I know people who do both. so next time I eat a hotdog, I'm going to douse it in ketchup and think of you. then I'll buy another hotdog and put a reasonable amount of ketchup on it.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 01:42 AM) LOL. Well the whole idea of the big screen at the Cell is to try and get on it, so I wouldn't consider that jackassery. But Sweet Lord, those people on their cells waving at the camera in the background? They should be awarded express one-way tickets to Abu Ghraib. God do I hate that. You ever see some news broadcast where they have a "street level" studio with windows? And sometimes there'll be just one person standing there, looking like a chump, staring back through the window, fascinated with his non-claim-to-fame that he's in the shot. And he inevitably will do what any moron would do: start waving. Hey! Look at me! I'm on teeeveee! Pfft. there's nothing funnier/stupider than those who are in a seat that has them in the shot the entire game, and they never stop waving and talking on their phone.

still, my favorite part of this game was the Jose Valentin sighting...how he remained a regular here for so long is beyond me. I miss the 'stache though.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) Did anyone get the latest issue of The Sporting News magazine? My God, they love us to insane proportions. They have a hilarious photo of Ozzie stirring some batter with a chef's hat on. They think it will be White Sox over Cardinals in the World Series. They ranked us like this... #1 rotation in entire MLB (because of Vazquez addition and McCarthy as a 6th starter) #3 heart of the order in entire MLB (because of Thome, Konerko, Dye) #3 bullpen in entire MLB (because of Jenks, Cotts, and Politte, although they do mention Hermanson) #1 clubhouse in entire MLB (because of Ozzie and Frank is now gone) #2 bench in entire MLB (because of Mackowiak, Cintron, and Ozuna) hey, I agree with it. I'm not even really worried about our bullpen, it's not like we don't have enough workhorses for starters to offset that.

this guy really went out on a limb with his individual award picks.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) This is pure Little League s***. Put his ass on the DQ list and when the checks stop coming, then let's see how he feels. Besides, can we seriously call him a legit second baseman anyway? The guys a butcher to begin with. now that's my major problem with this. Soriano is a TERRIBLE second baseman, yet he refuses to try his hand at a new position on a team that already has a good second baseman. ridiculous.

Vive Fidel! this tournament served its purpose for me: to see higher quality baseball during March. and it will give me something to watch tonight. thank you, Bud.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) Told you guys he wouldn't make it and shouldn't make it. many of us did. I figured once we got Cintron that Borchard's days were numbered. I just hope Thornton can be the answer as the second lefty out of the pen, but we'll have to wait and see him in action.

this is the type of trade where both guys weren't going to produce where they were at, so hopefully a change of scenery will do the trick.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 03:11 AM) How many times did Ozzie refer to Gooch as his "MVP" last season? Gooch would have to sucks balls well into May for Ozzie to even consider benching him in favor of Cintron. damn right...that's my input here.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 18, 2006 -> 07:38 AM) His comments also seem to suggest Logan isn't going to be the answer. At least that he shouldn't be depended on keeping up his ST success well how rare is anybody making a jump from single A to the bigs? I'm sure that Ozzie told the relievers vying for the last spot the same thing he told the press, and I'm sure he made it clear that if Boone Logan can keep up this success during the regular season then great, but he just wouldn't expect a pitcher making that big of a jump to keep this up.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 10:35 AM) I think Josh Fields should be our starting thirdbaseman this year. Joe Crede has sucked balls all spring and Josh Fields has been great, what ever happened to a player earning his spot during the spring? Crede should not get a free pass, it's pretty obvious that he needs some work in AAA still because his back is still bothering him. Josh Fields has 3 HRs off minor league pitching in Tucson that should be worth a starting job in the bigs. It sure wouldn't hurt anything. it'd be a little too soon to be taking the starting job from Crede. right now, you'd still have to give it until May before making any moves like that.

White Sox Acquire Infielder Alex Cintron

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 08:47 AM) Does anyone think that although Cintron, who is being mentioned as a Uribe replacement if he went down, really maybe an insurance policy for Iguchi? The Sox have seen Iguchi really struggle this spring, I know he was working on a different swing, maybe the team is concerned about his current 0-for. it's why this deal makes so much sense. believe it or not, he hit like .320 a few years ago, and say Iguchi hits bad enough that it warrants him being benched (which I don't see happening anyway), or even if Uribe plays bad enough (at the dish and defensively) that it warrants the same, it helps to have someone like Cintron to step in. -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 02:43 AM) I was for a Griffey trade last season when our offense was pathetic with Everett struggling horribly. I didn't care who we would have had to trade for Griffey. I wanted them to win the World Series. Luckily, they won it without making a move other than Geoff Blum. But I still would have only wanted Griffey last season if he was our DH to replace Everett, not replacing Rowand in CF. Things are different now. Thome is our DH and Griffey's contract and injury problems don't make sense for us in CF. I'm sure Griffey would have played some in CF last year had he been traded to us, but he would have essentially been a replacement for Everett with his bat. just now that we have Thome makes a move for Griffey unnecessary. -
1) A White Sox starter will win 20 games (might as well leave it the same) - Fact, this could be Buehrle's year 2) Joe Borchard will get the last roster spot - Fiction, the addition of Cintron just gives him more competition 3) Lopez will be the 2nd left handed reliever - Fact 4) Thome will hit more than 35 homers - Fact 5) Uribe will still be hitting 2nd at the All-star break - Fact 6) Javier Vazquez will win 15 games - Fact 7) Brian Anderson will hit over .260 - Fiction (but he should get close) 8) Jon Garland and Jose Contreras will have ERA's under 4 (please elaborate if not) - Fact 9) Scott Podsednik will steal more than 45 bases - Fact (that number seems a little low) 10) Bobby Jenks will save more than 35 games - Fiction, even if he pitches like he did last year, they will still be giving a decent amount of the opportunities to Cotts. But he'll get close. 11) Tadahito Iguchi will hit over .280 - Fact 12) Jermaine Dye will play more than 145 games - Fiction, with the depth on the bench, guys like Dye and Crede will get more than adequate rest. 13) Joe Crede will hit over .260 - Fact 14) Paul Konerko will hit over 40 homeruns and drive in more than 100 again - Fact 15) The Sox will improve their team ERA (3.61) - Fiction, that would be hard to improve on. 16) The Sox will make a trade for a major league player at the deadline - Fact, possibly a lefty reliever. 17) The Sox will finish in the top 5 in the AL in runs scored - Fact 18) Jermaine Dye will drive in 90 runs - Fact 19) The Sox will win the AL Central (this one better be fact) - Fact 20) The Sox will return to the World Series - Hope so.

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 03:37 AM) Great job. However Frank don't look good wearing another teams uniform. It breaks my heart to see it. At the beginning is how I like to remember the Big Hurt, at bat for the Sox. I miss that guy. my thoughts exactly. during the whole KW-Frank Thomas feud, I felt like I was back in 6th grade listening to my parents argue during the divorce. kind of the same thing, I just couldn't take sides.

hey, this is the guy who was stealing from Derek Jeter's locker when he was with the Yankees. I love signings like this.

QUOTE(SoCalSouthSider59 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) Rex G, then Snoopy, and then Charlie Brown, the latter two being better than Orton and whoever # 3 is going to be........ GO BEARS IN 2006!!!!!!! just as long at they don't sign Lucy, 'cause she'll find some way to get in and be the holder for kicks, and I don't want to see our kicker get hurt. -

Turner Sports' Ernie Johnson has cancer

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:05 AM) He's always been a great guy from what I've seen on tv. Hope it all goes well. http://proxy.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?...=simmons/020514 here's a piece on TNT's Inside the NBA, and something on Ernie Johnson that I remembered when I saw him announce he had cancer last night: that's from part two, and in case anyone wants to read the whole thing, there's a link to part one at the top. it's a good read, but I think you need Insider to read it. AND NOW that I've searched for it, here's the USA Today piece that was mentioned in the article above: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/nba/stories...hnson-focus.htm -
QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) Pretty boring deadline. the Francis trade makes up for it. it's gotta suck to play in an offense where if you pass the ball, there is about a 3% chance you won't touch it again until the next possession.
