  1. Focus on defense? That would be the only reason to play Engle over the othets.
  2. Sure. They'll admit that. Just like all bargaining units do.
  3. Calling people out for contrary opinions? This is what you were doing when nothing was happening.
  4. After his role in the CBA they had to make him work for it .
  5. All mangers love veterans. So everyone complains about winning this year. They make a move for this year and the complaints start about not looking to the future.
  6. It won't be. They are going to try to get them ABs where possible.
  7. It's always tough. While reconstruction is at 85% return to PLOF, there is still a chance he won't. So if the joint isn't too lax its tough to advocate for surgery.
  8. Interesting. I wonder if they are debating between surgery and conservative or reconstruction and repair.
  9. If he needs it, they'll have nearly 12 months before next season starts. Maybe they'll try conservative care first. That could change things. Or if the do a repair instead of a reconstruction.
  10. I'll go from a C to a B. Filled RF with a player who will play 120 games. Still would have preferred to trade him for SP.
  11. At least it happened early enough that he will be ready for the start of 2023.
  12. Where's the thread about grading the off season?
  13. Pitching, always pitching.
  14. "You are just carrying water for the FO thinking they will get RF worth anything for Kimbrel."
  15. It not even really the Tommy John surgery any longer with the advancement they've made. Same concept though.
  16. That is one way to go. But again with their innings limits its not like they would have been starters in the minors. They would still only have reliever innings limits.
  17. I was not a fan of his last year either. But is was his first year and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. It's a tough job this year with more game compressed into a smaller timeframe and a shortened spring training.
  18. Unfortunately the triple digits in the scoreboard and trying to strike everyone out is the way stats show everyone should pitch. Strikeouts are the most effective way to keep runs off the board. This is everyone now and this wouldn't have changed if he spent time in the minors.
  19. The problem with crochet as a starter was that with COVID restrictions and injuries he only pitched around 13 innings his last year if college. They couldn't give him starter innings. He had to do reliever innings. He was only going to go 50-60 innings no matter where he pitched. So he was either a releiver or make 10 starts spread out throughout a season. Or make 10 starts and shut down for the year. No matter how you arranged it or what level, he wasn't going to pitch much.
  20. I don't disagree. This is the way I would do it. However the opposing opinion is that getting MLB hitters out is also a learning curve and may be a steeper learning curve. So to get them there sooner is better for their development. There are pros and cons to each.
  21. This is the big question. If it is a UCL and they do a reconstruction, it may hold up.
  22. I think his injuries were a result of his throwing as well not the way he was handled. Does it really matter where the innings are majors or minors, as far as health is concerned? I think it's more the max effort and mechanics that are the issues. I'm not sold on the fact that he wouldn't have been trying to throw 98 all the time in the minors like he did in the majors. When they drafted him, I said he would end up with shoulder issues. He has that same stand up follow through.
  23. I still think they will try to make him a starter. The advantage now may be that he won't be a starter until near FA and he may be more affordable.
  24. While I agree with all of this in principle, you can't take someone who threw 13 innings one year and expect him to throw 100 the next. You need to ramp up the innings and once he gets there then throw more.
  25. I have no idea what their process is. However his high ceiling talent was tempting. Just because he had a high chance of injury doesn't mean it career ending. Everyone is acting like his career is over. If it is serious and something like a UCL reconstruction, he has an 85% chance if returning.
