  1. you put this edit in after I replied. I wholeheatredly agree they overworked the starters coming off the previous year. I hope Katz learned his lesson and changes it. A positive sign is that he changed it at the end of the season but it was too late by then.
  2. True, but when they have a young cost controlled lineup, they can do that. If they have a number of quality one inning guys the need for multi-innings guys decreases. Plus Crochet will move to a multi-inning guy. I don't know the guys they picked up well enough to discern that but I like the idea.
  3. If you consider getting RP squandering that is. ? Regardless of that as he stated 20+ AAV for a platoon bat is a waste of resources as well.
  4. Yep. Many times the deals are more about getting more than a certain other player more than the actual money. They get on each other in the locker room constantly.
  5. That does make it harder to accept a lesser deal just from an ego sense.
  6. yuck. That means if he bad, they are stuck with him. Because if he is good he leaves. This reminds me of the Heyward contract.
  7. Yep. He unfortunately got injured last year and didn't reach the number of innings they would have liked. So they will need to limit them again this year.
  8. For hitters its always the lead shoulder as that's the one that has the great range during the swing. Maybe they've cut down on the follow through. I haven't studies hitters nearly as much as pitchers for their motions.
  9. It doesn't matter who is to blame. I know everyone likes to blame someone. Although I repeatedly said I didn't like the way Katz handled the pitchers. The reality is that Rodon is a huge risk to pitch an entire season. I agree he could pitch a full season and be fine. I just wouldn't want to count on it and wouldn't invest in it. So whose spot is Kopech taking then as Kopech wasn't in the rotation last year? My bet is Keuchal would need to pitch a lot either way taking spot starts for Kopech and Rodon as that's a lot of missed starts when the team has 2 starters they need to limit.
  10. He's not wrong that 5 tacks to anchor it down is a substantial SLAP lesion.
  11. that doesn't mean he would be a good fit on the team. This isn't fantasy baseball where these are human beings. There is obviously something other than numbers that the Sox didn't like. Maybe TA didn't like his turn at 2B and was uncomfortable with him returning. There are a multitude of reason why an player doesn't come back to a team. There is no doubt Hernandez was the better player by stats. Doesn't mean there isn't a good reason they didn't want him back. We will never know the real reason.
  12. I agree. They may have looked into it and said "call us if the number of years goes down, we are not doing 5 year." Who knows what the market is currently. Boras definitely doesn't like the current ones. Maybe he signs a 3 year deal with an opt out after 1.
  13. just the market in general. Trying to pump it as much as possible.
  14. I agreed with me being incorrect on 1 and modified it. If all you are trying to do is say I was incorrect on that I agreed. All of what you said about Rodon last year is true. However he also didt pitch a complete year which hurt the Sox in the playoffs because he was worn out. I just wouldn't take the chance that he could complete a full year and be ready for the playoffs. He has never done it. His replacement is not Keuchal, it's Kopech who is moving into the rotation. Kimbrel is a not a risk as they will trade him. This is why his situation doesn't really matter. However that was not part of the Rodon discussion. Even if they don't trade him, taking a chance on Rodon isn't something I would do given his history. It's fine if you disagree and think his issues are all I'm the past and he will finally pitch a full season.
  15. I would prefer using someone like Lopez or a bullpen day for about 6-7 spot starts as opposed to depending on Rodon and having to fill in for spots in the rotation. I would also be in favor of acquiring another starting pitcher to help with the load. I've said all along I would put the resources towards pitching.
  16. That is the question. Imagine if they needed to do that for 2 pitchers instead of one.
  17. If this is the case then they read the market correctly as he didn't get 5 years at 100. He got 2 years at 44. You're right where is does make a difference if he got the long term deal thus they were sure he would turn down the qualifying offer. However the deal was close enough that he may have accepted the QO and the Sox would have been stuck with him.
  18. No that's not what I said. I said they are going to need to put kopech on a strict innings limit so he can be ready. They don't need another pitcher that needs this same treatment.
