Hamstrings injuries are tough for two reasons. 1. There is a very fast switch from concentric to ecctric motion at 2 separate joints in the hip and knee. 2. There are 3 muscles attempting to do this activity and the biceps femoris where most of the injuries occur is one muscle with 2 heads that have separate innervations it's one of the few muscles like this in the body.

There is a segment of the sports medicine population that thinks that in baseball where so much large ROM and powerful motion are needed that too many players are not working through full ROM for strengthening and are too strong in only part of the motion. Thus causing imbalances throughout the motions and increased muscles injuries. I do not know the strength and conditioning group well enough to know if that is what's going on here. However it looks like in this case it was the trip while running prior to the extension to reach the base that is the issue. He seems to have these issues. Maybe he's just a klutz?

A season ending one would be surprising. The only way I could see that is if it's a labral tear or something like that in the joint that requires surgery.

He also acquired, Grandal, Madrigal, Moncada, Kopech, Jimenez, Cease, Vaughn, Collins, keuchal, Lynn, Robert, Heuer, Foster, Bummer and Hedricks. While signing a number of them to team friendly long term deals. No one is going to get them all right. The team the past 2 years is showing promise.

I think the past decade decision of constantly rehashing veterans was above the FO pay grade. It wasn't until they were allowed to tear it down and fully rebuild that we saw true progress. I'm willing to give them the time to see it through.

I'm accounting for that. The injury is probably a 6 week rehab on the outside unless it is really bad. Then 1-2 weeks for getting into the rhythm.

Yes, it is good enough to win a World Series. Winning isn't secondary, but its not the only thing. Pitching is always an uncertainty. No team has certainty in pitching. As I've said previously, selling out for one year is not a good plan to win a World Series. The dodgers have been the best team for how many years and how long did it take them to win? they need to maximize the window so they have the best chance to catch that win.

I would disagree that a rookie learning how to hit and play a new position at the MLB level should just be thrown out there. Easing him into playing time is the right way to go. He will get more playing time as he gets comfortable and used to the league. your entire scenario probably would have played out if Eloy was the regular LF. However, they needed to replace his games from other players. Garcia would not have needed to play this much if jimienez was in the lineup.

Agreed. The primary issue for the Sox is that too many of their important veterans are not performing. All of the shuffling that TLR is doing is inconsequential if these guys don't hit.

I think early July is too conservative. Thats 9-10 weeks. I would think that late June is more likely a couple of weeks earlier than your estimation. However, it will all depend on the severity of what they find today.

I would disagree. The Bulls FO hadn't shown the ability to put together a good roster. The Sox FO has put together a good roster and looks to be for a few years. Many FO and people around baseball agree the sox have built a pretty good team. The should be allowed to see it through.

I think Cease is a good pitcher. Not the top maybe but that's where Giolito and Kopech come in. There are too many variables in every pitching staff except maybe the Dodgers but we know that no other team will spend like that. There will never be assurances on any pitching staff. The Sox have very good talent and it is developing. regardless of what many think, the starting staff will include Giolito, Keuchal, Cease and Kopech barring injury this year. No team is going to sit pitchers under contract if healthy.

They have Giolito, Keuchal, Cease and kopech signed for next year. That leaves one spot. I would sign Lynn for 2-3 years before Rodon.

How does Vaughn have 17 games and 51 PA put him behind Lamb with 9 games and 28 PA?

Agreed. there are plenty of players who start out well and the league figures them out and they can't adjust. He may continue it but its best to see a full year and multiple series against the same teams.

If Kopech stays on track, they only need to sign one starter next year. That's a good position for a rotation. Don't mortgage the future and give yourself a chance every year. The best team doesn't always win in a given year for baseball. They need to maximize their chances over a few years to really have a shot at the World Series. Selling out for one year is just too risky.

I think the starting pitching will be even better when kopech can be a full time starter. He really has shown improvement even without pitching competitively last year.

It boggles the mind that they are 4th in runs scored per game without Eloy.

Surgery for muscles is rare. It's like trying to tie two pieces of spaghetti together. It rarely works and usually causes more scar tissue and its worse off. If it's a rupture of a tendon like Jimenez than it can work. However I've never seen one from the major hip flexor, only the sartorius but that was in young soccer players and the growth plate fractured. Hip flexor injuries look bad because you can't lift your leg at all. It not like the hamstring where you can walk without bending your knee.

Could be worse. The A's just lost Luzardo because he fractured a finger in the pitching hand when "bumped" his hand on a desk playing video games.
