  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) I think they would rather have seen how it healed before messing with it.. That is usually the best way to handle these situations. The is still no guarantee that he will ever be able to play. They did the right thing.
  2. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) It was in like early October...I remember like last week being the 6 month anniversary of the surgery. They should have done this surgery as soon as he was hurt instead of waiting. That's right I do remember an article about the 6 month anniversary not too long ago.
  3. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) just wonder if he's really got a virus or he's really got bad wheels. Can't the Tigers get out of his contract if he misses X number of games because of knee trouble? I just wonder about his overall health. And it certainly seems like the Sox did the right thing by not paying him. The contract was reported as 25 days or more on the DL due to the knee problem. This cetainly doesn't fall under that. So, who knows what the real issue is.
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) What date did he have the surgery on? I believe it was last July but I'm not sure On second thought that was the injury. I'm not sure when the surgery was performed
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) Yikes.. I never knew girls could get them also. I thought just boys had "groins".. Yep, just themuscles in the inside of the thigh from the hip to the knee. Although the main part of the muscle is near the hip. Men just always think with the area, that's why they hurt it more.
  6. QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) That's so Jerry Manual-ish. Never be satisfied with 2/3 when you can get the sweep! Tonight was a sweet win for one main reason: the Count showed some resiliency out there. When he gave up run #3 in the 2nd, I thought it was going to be a rough outing, but then he did a great job shutting them down until the homer in the 7th. It was really a great effort by the Count, even if it doesn't show up as a win, helping his ERA or Ks or win contribution. Red 3 I believe
  7. I also believe Ozzie had Hermanson warming before we took the lead in case it went longer. It's always best if you can pitch the reliever if they have warmed. He could have pitch Hermanson then went to Shingo but as I said earlier I like what he did.
  8. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) Shingo has some trouble with lefties and Crisp, Sizemore, and Hafner are all lefties. It was a smart move by Ozzie, period. I agree. Sidearm throwers are suceptible to the opposite hitters. When you have a number of lefties coming up, I would go away from Shingo also.
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) I hope he's not rushed nor overworked. He's on the smaller size, they need to keep that arm healthy... I agree with being that young they need to increase his innings and pitch totals gradually. If he keeps it up he looks like another good one.
  10. One of the good things about the win is we won while the other team hit more HR than we did. I like the more balanced look of the line up.
  11. There are a few thing with meniscus tears. First MRIs are not that accurrate and who knows the true extent of the tear. With meds the inflammation can go down and he won't have any problems with it but it could just as easily flip back into the joint. The article is right that he won't do anymore damage if he continues to play unless the meniscus tears more. These are possibilities especially with a guy his weight. Overall they probably figured if he tears it more we definitely need to do surgery to repair so let's let him try. With a tear that big they won't remove it. If you remove it, it's 4-8 weeks rehab. To repair it is 4-6 months, so let him try.
  12. As I sit here and think about this it's kind of confusing. The cortisone will decrease the inflammation but decreases the overall healing process. They are either very confident that the bone is healed and the injection won't effect it or very worried about the tendon. He has had plantar fasciitis and tendon problem in the foot before.
  13. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) According to the Sox website, Frank got a cortisone injection today, too. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws good find I didn't see that. This is probably the reason he can't run not the scar tissue. One of the tendons on the inside of his foot the posterior tibilais tendon inserts into the bone that he fractures and had the bone graft. If the screws inserted there are irritatingthe tendon it would definitely cause problems with running. As a wise man once said "curiouser and curiouser"
  14. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) Thanks, just curious. I think you were in on the steroids hearing thread too (too lazy to look it up now). Interesting info... I was indeed, been involved with many patients mixed up with that stuff.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:55 PM) Thanks for sharing your info with us. I try. The variety of people on this board is what makes it so enjoyable
  16. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) Are you in medicine, btw? You seem to know something about these things. I'm a physical therapist and athletic trainer who has worked in the MLB and minors in the past.
  17. I stated on an earlier topic that he should not have this scar tissue in the first place. While this news at first glance is no big deal. The more secondary problems that arise the more worried I get about this. This was potentially a career thretening injury to start with and the longer it drags on the complicated it could become. Here's hoping the negative thoughts these continued problems bring are just the dark side creeping into my mind.
  18. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) I posted this elsewhere but it still applies It's kind of picky but the article said the abductor muscle. These are the muscles usually associated with hip pointers not the groin muscles. The adductors are the groin. Ihope the writer just got it wrong like they usually do, otherwise the problem is worse then they thought.
  19. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) From the article on Chisox.com, it appears he's fine. They just understand how valuable he is, and they're just being cautious. http://whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/ar...t=.jsp&c_id=cws It's kind of picky but the article said the abductor muscle. These are the muscles usually associated with hip pointers not the groin muscles. The adductors are the groin. Ihope the writer just got it wrong like they usually do, otherwise the problem is worse then they thought.
  20. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) Well, the real question is who goes away? It would have to be between Harris, Timo and Ozuna. If it were me making the choice Willie would go, but I'd understand it if they decided Ozuna has less potential. They need RH on the bench so I think Ozuna is safe. Timo is probably gone but Ozzie really likes him so who knows.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) OK.. I gotta ask.. what does it feel like to have a groin strain..?? On the serious side, the groin muscles are the adductor muscles on the inside of the thigh and hip. The muscles are used to bring the leg in toward the other leg. These muscles come in to play specifically when leading off from a base and crossing over. As you can see there are under a great deal of stress in a base stealer. They are also used quite a bit during normal running gait. With an LHP on the mound and a cold night it's just a good all around evening to rest it some more.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) I hope they do add back some capacity that they lost. They can sell every bit of 50,000 seats for the Cubs, Yankees, and Red Sox series, in addition to opening. I am not sure what they would do to add back now, but who knows. But I'll take your bet, because all indications seem to indicate that they are done with the big work. If it wasn't for the color change of the seats, no one would have ever known that was even happening. I agree. The seat were a planned change before the renovations. The reason they say the renovation are complete is because they are. The changing of the seats was necessary maintainence because of the life expectancy of the material not a renovation.
  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) Is it full size ptatc...??? That's a cool gift. I can't remember the coolest Sox gift I've gotten... I think all the stuff is cool. Yes, it's a full sized one. It was used from an arcade. I love to tinker around with it. It has a glove to aim for and lights like a stadium. That's why it's the best of the many I have received.
  24. For my 30th my wife got me a Big Hurt pinball machiene. It''s one of the best presents I have ever received. It combines two of my favorites: pinball and the White Sox. After I got it I went to a Soxfest and brought the directions card that sits inside the glass and had him sign it.
  25. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) What good is major league experience when you dont produce, just like Joe. Power is nothing when you can make contact with the ball in the first place, and his defense has started to lack as well. Ozuna was always touted as a great prospect as well, and he makes good contact, plays good defense and is speedy on the base paths. I think he is a better option at this point. And when Joe is gone after the season, that is one less hole in our lineup Does the lineup need more contact with no power potential (Ozuna) or more power with potential for contact (Crede) right now? A question for the ages. Basically you know what you have in Ozuna, a utility player who may get hot. The jury is out on Crede. Leave him in for one more year then get an upgrade if needed.
