The accrediting body for physical therapy education (CAPTE) now has a criteria on student debt. The students come to us after their undergrad and then go 3 more years to complete DPT school. There are trying to keep the debt reasonable (whatever that means). Programs can lose accreditation if their average student debt upon graduation is above a certain level.

I think it is. It makes more "fair" for the districts that don't have the tax base. This is why there is such a disparity in the quality in education from district to district. It's not good for the state in general.

This is mostly due to Illinois being one of only a few states left that mostly fund education with local taxes. The more tax money the better the local school is. Most states take all of the taxes for education in one fund then disperse it to schools around the state.

The issue is that the states are continually decreasing their funding for the schools. So even if you want to keep expenses the same, the schools need to get money from somewhere. For example, the small school I teach at received about 40 million from the state in 2008. In 2018 we received 22 million. Where is that decreased revenue going to come from?
  5. That wasn't my point. My point is if people are confident that he will sign with the Sox, you can make good money on it.
  6. I don't think this is correct. He got injured while on the MLB roster so his service counts.
  7. My apologies. The Vegas insider has those odds. Didn't realize that it wasn't tied to Vegas. Either way those are the current odds of places where you can bet on those types of things.
  8. Call Vegas insider then. The Sox are 5/1 Bet 100 and make 500. Yankees are 1/2. They are such a prohibitive favorite that it's not worth betting.
  9. RG3 is still playing, he just signed a contract with the Ravens, I believe. If he shows any talent, he will be a backup for years.
  10. Vegas has the White Sox 3rd to sign Machado behind the Yankees and the Padres. Not even on the list for Harper.
  11. The odds of a raw player missing years of development and becoming an MLB player are really low. Players can leave baseball and be successful (Danny Ainge, Jay Schroeder) in other sports can happen but taking up baseball later doesn't work.
  12. Or a Superman comic.
  13. NASCAR because people are just purposefully looking for a crash.
  14. In that area, it's either Cubs or Cardinals.
  15. Yes. Growing up in Peoria. They had the Peoria Cubs, a minor league affiliate. I believe he talked about it at the time.
  16. This is the key to everything. Having manny does them no good if Eloy and others don't develop into quality MLB players. The Sox aren't going to build a consistent team through FA.
  17. It was a gastroc not a hamstring. both of which are pretty serious but the gastroc can turn into an Achilles tendon rupture down the road if not treated properly
  18. Let's hope they can do that. However, if the contract is 5-7 AAV higher than what the needed to spend because they bid against themselves, will they be able to trade that contract.
  19. You would if they start using that contract as the reason that can't sign the young players to extensions in 6 years.

Adding to the 401k seems to be the best, especially with the free money for matching. People are nuts not to take advantage of that free money. as for debt free, I wish I could claim that. Between the house and kids going to college, it isn't going to happen soon. however, I would say we mange the debt well. nothing too crazy or in any one spot. my credit score is 846 so I'm not doing too bad.

They wouldn't have access to the 529, this was the big one for saving. We are the same way. My wife usually gets a substantial bonus as well. However, we incorporate the other ideas to force ourselves to save money, especially the 529 idea because that is something we really wanted to save for. We had the kids savings for college paid for when they were sophomores in high school. We started it when they were in kindergarten.
  22. Because they found out too many people read into things and the agent told them to take it down.

It is, except someone else is getting the interest on the money not you. If you are going to save you might as well get as much as you can. It's not much each year but if you do it every year for 20 years, it adds up.
  24. They are for her niece, whose father plays for that team. The shoes had her brother's number on them. People just try to read too much into things.

This is the problem that most people have. What worked for us was find ways to force it. Have an automatic transfer from checking to savings each month, Get a 529 that is a monthly bill. Things like that which are just incorporating into a bill like structures
