    That was sarcasm.
  2. He will be on the mound in September just as a progression of rehab. I would bet they dont put him in games though.
  3. Too cheap. Ortiz wasn't all that good in Minnesota. The most HR he hit was 20 after 6 years there. He didn't start hitting HR until he got to Boston.
  4. This isn't reality.

He said they would, you don't believe him?
  6. Closers have off days too.

The crazy thing is all the Presidents have funded the wall. He just wants to add a lot more funding to accelerate the pace. However, I can see it from his point of view that it was one of his campaign promises so he needs to push it to keep his base.
  8. Maybe exempt the 9th and extra innings from the rule.
  9. I thought the surgery was earlier for some reason. The about 5 month mark is typical.
  10. It just a gradual build up of distance then moving to the mound. He is just doing a light tosses at probably 45 feet. Over the next 2 months they will slowly increase the distance to continue to build strength and control. He'll progress to around 200 feet for 5 days per week. Usually at the 8 month mark or so he will move to the mound and begin a spring training like progression to get ready to pitch in games. In this case, I don't think they will plan on him pitching this year. So they may extend this process a little. In fact, many times they start throwing at 5 months which would put this behind schedule if this is his first time throwing.
  11. Since this is a UCL injury, there is an interesting new study out from last year. Over the past 6 years if a pitcher throws 48% or more fastballs they have a high correlation with needing UCL surgery. Its interesting that it used to be poor mechanics with off speed pitches. But with the new emphasis on throwing near your max velocity, throwing the fastball is more damaging to the elbow.
  12. Easily. However, I would bet they wait until 2020.
  13. It's right on schedule at about 6 months. Pitchers can get back to games at 9 months but most build up to 12 months.
  14. We know he would rather play somewhere else, New York.
  15. He can't just go through the motions until an opt out year. It appears his value has already been hurt by his "not Johnny hustle" remarks. If teams see he is just going through the motions, no one will give him a long term, big money contract.
  16. Limiting the pitching staff to 12 and having a pitcher face a minimum of 3 hitters are contradictory to lowering the pitching mound. I don't understand why those would be in the same proposal.
  17. That's neglect on the arbitrators part if they don't research the material given to them. Every one of them should be disbarred if they don't. The article states that no one knows the reasons for the decisions as they are not disclosed. So the assumption that the arbitrators don't understand the stats is a little condescending to them.
  18. The arbitration process is based on whatever the agent and team present to the arbitration panel. It's not based on any specific thing. Each side presents their case and numbers and the panel decide whose case is better.
  19. I don't know. It is taking a chance but are there really going to be that much higher offers when he is 28? It gives the Sox a PR boost and abridge until the farm system should start producing.
  20. They aren't planning on competing this year. This would be a move to start competing in 2020.
  21. It's wasn't bad until the owners and GMs finally got smart and aren't over paying. There were routine 7, 8, 9 and 10 year deals that rarely worked for the team but were great for the players. A rod, Puljols, Hampton, Stanton. None of them really worked out for the team. This is just a market correction. The no salary cap and guaranteed contract model has worked in the players favor for 40 years. If they want to change it, they will need to give up something substantial in the next CBA.
  22. I'm going to play the old guy here. When you have young males arguing topics, all the idealism and testosterone of the invincibility of youth arises. When you get old you get practical, realize your vulnerability and lose some of the aggression. You realize that in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter and it takes a big part of the bravado away. Unfortunately, it takes getting old to get to that point. So for all the young bucks, carry on.
  23. Because there is no Manny news.
  24. I think the power will increase and the strikeouts will improve a little. I just don't see a drastic change.
