That would be interesting. That's a good deal of pressure on a rookie. We've seen what playing rookies away from their natural positions has done in the past. Hopefully, it won't be for too long.
-
That's just it. If all the performances are fairly equal. Odds are one will struggle and need to be sent down. Don't forget to add Thorpe as he will need to be brought up as well. That 7 starters. We know they will go through that many during the first few months let alone the whole season. If a couple are in the pen or in the minors it's not the end of the world. They will come up.
-
I think they would want the LHP there provided the performance is fairly equal.

We'll see about the Robert return. I'll do something besides, "the team will always suck with JR" pessimism. The Sox historically have a payroll in the upper half of the league. They are well below that now. With a pretty good cost controlled pitching staff. They will have money to get competent postion players. The catching position looks in good shape which is important for the pitching staff.

That's good. Let him get ready for the season there as he has missed a good chunk of time.
-
I disagree. I think they will be added in the at minimum shortened season for 2027. Plus what they get for Robert.
-
That is a very pessimistic timeline. I say 3 years to good.

By the time he owns the team, Montgomery will he in arbitration either way.

Doesn't matter the results. They are in the situation to keep a talented pitcher on the team because they will be bad anyway. That was the point. -

Those teams weren't ulin this situation. Of course they can return hom. But in a bad team a talented pitcher will stick. -
I hope so. Like what was pointed out, a couple of the linemen acquired are a little older. Acquire and and break in the replacements now.

Gerrit Cole to have TJS....likely won't be back until mid-2026

That is much more accurate with tendons than ligaments due to the collagen makeup of the tissue. What you said is true for the Achilles tendon as well however the key your point is the middle age part. As we age collagen transforms and become less flexible. The glycoaminoclycans become less hydrophilic. Essentially the tissue dries out and become less flexible. Ligaments are less flexible to begin with thus don't suffer as much of this decrease. All tissue weakens with age but the more flexible ones are more susceptible to it. All that being said you are correct where it would be very beneficial to have a way to detect it earlier without doing an mri every week. -

Shane Smith was on the team due to being a rule 5 and the team sucking this year. May as well carry a talented 25 year old pitcher. -

Problem is a ligament is not a muscle where you can directly train it to withstand more forces. With heavy lifting you can thicken ligaments some but not much and it's tough to do on the inside of the elbow. The elbow has an inherent weakness as it has a valgus bend to it where the forearm is naturally lateral to the elbow. This creates a weakness when throwing as the hand drags behind the elbow and the only thing really keeping the arm together is the UCL specifically the anterior bands. We haven't been able to figure a way around that yet. For now it's a reconstructionwhich there are constantly improving surgeries. -

They tried to with the pitching clock. Thought it may make the pitchers decrease the max effort by not giving them as much time to recover. Did go that way. -
Well it was obvious because it was really all that was left. They addressed the secondary, then linebacker and offensive skill position and QB. Both lines were what is left to upgrade. That was the plan and they followed through. I would have reordered it personally but at least the did it systematically.

Exactly. They only mean something to someone like Drury trying to make a team. There are very few of those. -

That's what the draft is for. Guys they draft this year need to get up to speed in the NFL. Get veterans who can stop right un and play well. Draft the replacements and get them seasoned.
