  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) If this was 20-25 years ago, his career as anything but a DH might be in question, but I think he will be OK. I hate the Cubs, but this is not happy news for me. I hope he recovers fully. I want the Cubs to lose every game they play, and really wouldn't mind if Schwarber sucked. But I am anti injury. I'm pro injury. Keeps me in business. (Just kidding . Kind of.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 06:03 PM) It's not like his game is based on speed... He'll still hit, but they're going to have a really hard time finding a position for him. He was already bad in left field, but he probably can't play outfield ever again. It's hard to put a guy who just had a devastating knee injury back at catcher anytime soon. He might have to convert to 1B or 3B. He should be fine to play the OF. If he is fine to hit, he can play the OF.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 05:18 PM) He most likely won't ever be the same again. Bummer. I hate the Cubs, but it sucks to see him get injured. The ACL is no big deal. The problem is the LCL and that area.
  4. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 05:19 PM) Schwarber out for the season http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/04/08/cub...h-acl-lcl-tear/ LCL makes a difference. If the posterior-lateral corner of the knee is involved it make for a much more involved surgery. There are nerves and other ligaments and even tendons involved, similar to the kid from notre dame. This is not a routine surgery.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 05:07 PM) acl/mcl tear. Keep Rodon in a bubble! I'm surprised with the diagnosis, they should not even had tried to get him up walking after it with the ACL involved. Most ACL injuries have some component of the MCL or medial meniscus involved. Really doesn't change the rehab. He'll be back in 9-12 months, probably ready for the beginning of next season.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) He really should be an AL DH anyway, but if he tore an A or MCL I don't really see why he wouldn't be able to catch after a successful rehab. PTATC? Correct.
  7. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) If that is the case are his catching days pretty much done? No, it will heal.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) If that is the case, how long will he expected to be out? It's probably the MCL if a ligament tear. I all depends on the extent but probably 8-12 weeks. Could be as early as 6. If it's ACL then obviously done for the year.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 11:23 AM) Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 3m3 minutes ago A lot of concern within the Cubs organization today about Kyle Schwarber's injury, and there is more concern about his knee than his ankle. As there should be. In general knees are much more difficult to rehab.
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 10:24 AM) Obviously I'm not a doctor, but that looked a lot worse than a sprained ankle. Looked like he blew his knee out. Doubtful for the reasons I stated earlier. I don't know the Cubs trainer but as I said it's usually pretty obvious and they didn't react like it. Some players are just more "reactionary" than others.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) The Bothans reference was ROTJ, the second Death Star. Yep, found it on the e-reader.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) Julie DiCaro ‏@JulieDiCaro 3h3 hours ago ICYMI: Schwarber going to have MRI on his left knee & ankle today. Javy Baez may not be back right away after getting hit in the head. Probably more MCL for the knee possible meniscus. They will look for the extent of damage to the ligaments of the ankle, possibly the fibular tendons laterally.
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) What is the worst case scenario? ACL/MCL Tear? Those are the worst case because it's a surgery with the rehab time. however, it didn't appear that those were a concern. The reaction after the trainer did the tests didn't make it look like they were concerned about it. It also doubt they would have allowed him to try to walk if they thought it was the ACL. It's pretty obvious almost immediately if someone tears the ACL.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) The Bothans are the Second Death Star. This one is the First Death Star. Theoretically, Rogue One could end with the plans being handed to Leia, right before the events that started A New Hope... I'm pretty sure the Bothans are the first one with Leia discussing it in the first movie. I'll need to back and look at the books.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) With how that looked and how he reacted, they will be really lucky if it is only 1-2 weeks If it's truly just a ligament injury anything short of a third degree near complete tear should only require a 15 day DL stint.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) Ill look. Also which death star is this? The first.
  17. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) That's exactly what a sprain is, and while the term itself doesn't suggest it's any more severe than a broken ankle (I think most would just assume it wasn't) there are differences that actually make it worse. I personally know because I sprained my ankle badly last year. The X Ray was clear of any breaks, however the MRI showed several tears to ligaments and tendons. My rehabilition was for over a month and it took awhile to do everyday activities without pain. This was with a Grade 2 sprain that I recovered quickly from. Now, as a professional athlete with top doctors at his disposal who knows how long any DL stinct would be, but even for a less severe Grade 1 sprain Schwarber should be resting for a week or two. They can't speed up the healing process. They can however inject things to make the pain less. All depends on the amount of damage to the ligaments.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) Right around episode 4. This is the story of the group that smuggled the death star plans that is referenced before luke blows dat s*** up with the force. From one of the movies and books, they reference that many Bothans die trying to get this information. It's a source of pride among that planet. I wonder if they work that in or just go the human route.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 09:00 AM) Well, there's sprain, strain and tear...with different degrees of severity, calling PTAC. Guess Soler gets two weeks of of pretty much uninterrupted playing time now? Technically speaking a sprain is an injury to a ligament, a strain is an injury to a muscle. They both have degrees of grades of injury. First degree is an injury with little tearing of fibers. Second degree is some fibers tron. Third degree is most of the fibers torn. There are also clinically disability attributes that go along with those but those are the physical characteristics of the injuries.
  20. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 07:02 PM) Worked all day and avoided this thread for most of the afternoon. Saved a good Boulevard Sour for today and I'm glad I did! Pumped about our starting pitching. What a game by Latos all things considered. Eaton is absolutely on fire. That's fabulous for this lineup. I like Melky in the 2hole personally. I knew it'd start falling for him with how hard he hit it his first AB. Garcia hit the ball hard today. Navarro crushed that ball in the 9th. Starting this season out very good. I'm stoked to be going home 3-1 and Latos having a fabulous performance and Rodon having the best outing of the 4. That has quickly become one of my favorites!!
  21. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 02:10 PM) Then Avi can go to AAA and figure out how to be a better fielder. If he wants to stay in the majors he has to learn to be a DH, IMO I would disagree. I would play the players who are struggling more to try to "get them on track." If Avi doesn't get it together after a few weeks then they get rid of him. Right now they need to see if the changes in his swing will help his performance. They can't see that if he's on the bench.
  22. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) This is going to be a long f***ing season if you guys are really going to look at every single move Robin makes under a microscope. That's the job of this board, especially the ones who don't like Robin. It's like the old sports radio stations where fans can discuss actual games and plays not change the world one biased view at a time.
  23. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) So I switched over to ESPN2 (which had a great broadcast, wow, was really impressed) but did Hawk have any more awful moments last night? Goodness I don't know how Stone puts up with it anymore. Hawk just talks and talks and talks and he's been in "know it all mode" for almost every inning so far. I think he has been very entertaining. Part of his job as the color analyst is to give background information on the game and various plays. While he does over due it, I find it much more entertaining than the bland national broadcasters that have no opinions at all. They are more like having two play by play guys in the booth. I know it's all preference but I like a broadcaster to throw options and stories out there even if I don't agree with them.
  24. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) If he had a higher ceiling than Sale he'd be Clayton Kershaw. I think Rodon is very good too, but there is about a I said this in another thread; Sale has has a much better fastball and change up than Rodon, and that is unlikely to change. Rodon has a slightly better slider. Sale is and will always be better than Rodon Due to his motion, he will never have the command that Sale has. This will be his primary limitation.

QUOTE (VAfan @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 03:31 PM) Looking a little deeper into his splits in baseball reference, he was tremendous in high leverage situations, and in the 8th inning. This further supports my suggestion. What I think was misuse was how many times he was put into games where we were behind. He absolutely needs to be in the A category of relievers to use to preserve leads, and should never really be used if we are behind more than a run or two. That's a waste. As for the fact he can go for more than one inning, yes he can. But what would be more valuable to the Sox? An 8th inning pitcher who almost never gets scored on, doesn't walk guys, and has a great WHIP? Or a guy you can get more than an inning out of if the starter can't last? Give me the former EVERY time! KC should have shown everyone by now the value of a shutdown bullpen. Albers needs to be given the chance to be more in the middle of that than on the fringes, where he has been up to now. Thats fine. If they have another person who can pitch those innings. Of course its more valuable to habe the better pitcher in the more important situation taken in isolation. But it also hurts the team for the next 2 games if they need to use three pitchers to cover the innings, especially with the 4 and 5 starters coming up and very few off days coming up. You cant burn the bullpen early.
