  1. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 12:51 PM) Everyone who's been caught has used some version of the "I got it at GNC" excuse, at least initially. Boilerplate. Occasionally, it's true. But not often. Jim Miller from the Bears is one.
  2. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 12:33 PM) He said he might have gotten a banned substance unknowingly via a shake in the D.R. Besides, he has never shown any signs of roid-rage. Ah yes. The good ol' "I didn't know what I took and I'm sorry for it" defense.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 12:23 PM) The only player I really was rooted against was Daniel Hudson. It was absolutely nothing personal against him either. No matter what subject a thread was about, somehow there managed to be a post complaining about that trade, so I just hoped he would fail so people would shut up. Two TJ surgeries are against him but not really his fault other than not changing his approach.
  4. This is a "that's what you got out of this moment" but the best part about the entire article is the link to the Star Wars theme song video. I forgot about that. I have no idea what a Cowboy doing tricks with a rope and lariat has to do with Star Wars but it is hysterical.
  5. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) The only thing he admitted though was the fact that he was on the 2003 list. He still denies ever taking any PEDs. Ok, my fault. I thought he admitted that he was on them because of the list.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 11:22 AM) This is the difference in treating people like crap, and being a nice guy. Ortiz got swept under the rug because he didnt go hollywood like Sammy Also the difference in admitting it and dealing with the punishment. Fans will forgive if you come clean.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) He is very awesome, and you should have gone to jail for assault. Probably but with 20 of them flying it was difficult to determine where it came from. It wasn't the greatest idea for a promotion with that rivalry.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 06:54 AM) Except that Mark's father-in-law isn't nearly as awesome as Jamie's. He is not awesome. This coming from a Marquette grad of course. I was once mentioned by him in an article after a game. He said "that [jerk] who hit me with a seat cushion from the student section after the game should have been ejected." It was a great frisbee toss from 40 feet away.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 11:02 AM) KANSAS CITY - Prior to today’s game at Kansas City, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed reliever Nate Jones on the 15-day disabled list with a muscle strain in his left hip and recalled right-hander Jake Petricka (puh-TRICH-kuh) from Class AAA Charlotte. Petricka, 25, appeared in 16 games with Chicago last season, his first in the major leagues. He went 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA (7 ER/19.1 IP) and 10 strikeouts after making his major-league debut on August 22 at Kansas City. Petricka also was 5-0 with a 1.81 ERA (11 ER/54.2 IP), one save and 58 strikeouts over 31 combined games (one start) between Charlotte and Class AA Birmingham last season. Jones, 28, has appeared in two games this season (4 ER/0.0 IP). He made eight Cactus League appearances after being sidelined for the start of spring with a left glute strain. Jones is 12-5 with a 3.55 ERA (59 ER/149.2 IP), 23 holds and 154 strikeouts over 137 career appearances with the White Sox since 2012. He ranks among the American League relief leaders since 2012 in IP (2nd), wins (T2nd), winning percentage (7th), strikeouts (9th) and games (12th). This could explain many of the inconsistent especially high pitches. The glute pain wound not allow a proper follow through with pain from the eccentric contraction of the left glute max. This type of contraction produces the greatest amount of force and causes all the soreness from muscle work. That being said let's hope this isn't just an excuse.
  10. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) Cubs Prospects that i think will do good: Javier Baez (high errors, tho), possible all-star Arismendy Alcantara (leage-average) Kris Bryant (over-rated, but possibly above-average) CJ Edwards (sleeper) Not sure about: Mike Olt Cubs prospects i think will suck: Brett Jackson (bust) Albert Almora (don't see anything in him) I think Almora will have a good career. He won't be a yearly ALL-Star but he will be one of those consistent guys who plays 10-15 years in the MLB moving from team to team.
  11. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) Looking forward to watching Abreu! Hoping it's the real deal (don't need speculated confirmation from anyone, just stating). I'm also excited about watching Erik Johnson. Haven't heard too much hype around here for him. He was really impressive yesterday when he shortened his swing with two strikes and hit that triple. It says alot about a hitting approach with that and the "not afraid to hit with 2 strikes" mentality. He wasn't defensive just attacked it with a shorter swing.
  12. I'm glad that clean 9th innings are so easy.
  13. QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) Would love to hear one good reason why Tyler Flowers is starting again. Also, happy Ventura isn't overreacting and moving Semien out of the 2 spot. It's where he belongs. Because the team is worried about exposing a catcher who hasn't played above A ball. He is going to start 1 time per week to give Flowers a rest.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 04:58 AM) Sandy Koufax? Koufax was 30 years old when he had to retire due to arm problems.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 07:00 PM) You must not have seen any of the 70's or 80's then. Those were the good ol' days. There would be two of us in the Old Comiskey RF bleachers doing the 2 man wave because there was no one else in the section. We were kicked out of the section a few times during a game because they wanted to close the section.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 06:37 PM) I think it's silly to blame the customer of any business for not buying the product. Your wrong here. Sports fans aren't typical customers where a rooting interest is involved. I detest this analogy just like at a university. Students are not customers. There is a vested interest that you don't have in regular businesses. People don't cheer for McDonald's (unless you own stock).
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 12:13 PM) This is where I don't care whether or not I'm a Sox fan. Putting any large amount of money into new stadiums for sports teams is inevitably a giant waste of taxpayer money for states and municipalities. I don't want them doing it for the Sox or anyone else again. The lessons have been learned. Now, I'm fine with little things, or them doing the things only government can do - helping alter traffic/street patterns, zoning permits, help with licensing and other permints, making those processes work for them. No problems there, even though it costs some money (just not very much) to do the little things. Even some creative restructuring of tax and other obligations for a few years to make the transition work OK. Beyond that? Go do it yourself. The only way it is worth itis if the city or state actually has some money generating opportunities. This would be concessions and parking or similar things. This could add revenue to the government.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 01:12 PM) Considering the Cubs and their fans aren't teased about taking Mike Harkey one pick before Jack McDowell, or when they spend decades looking for a 3rd baseman, Ty Griffin one pick before Robin Ventura, I doubt the Sox or their fans will get any crap if the Cubs pick a star and the Sox a bust. This is however, pick #3 and the Sox probably don't plan on picking this high in the future, so there is a ton of pressure not to miss. They have to get something back for losing 99 games. As long as he's not injured, if he slipped, Rondon is the guy. Don't pass it up. If he turns out as good as they said he would previously, if you drafted me every round the rest of the draft, it would be very successful. Don't try to save money for a guy who will top out in AA if you can get a guy that has perrenial all star stamped next to his name. I'm with you. Never pass on a potential left handed all star pitcher.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 10:43 AM) Please don't call it Comiskey Park. I hated when they named it that to begin with. First, there already WAS a Comiskey Park, it was very different, and it drove me nuts they couldn't find a new name. Second, Comiskey was all sorts of bad things, he's not the guy I'd want to evoke anyway. If you want non-corporate, call it Veeck Park. But they'll likely find another sponsor, as US Cellular will undoubtedly want to bow out if they can. True, but without him there is no American League or Chicago White Sox organization. He did alot for the game of baseball both as an owner and a player.
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) I have some experience with Sprint dealing with large contractual obligations. My guess from that experience is that Sprint has looked at every way possible to break that deal and can't. In my opinion, US Cellular Field will never be known as Sprint anything because Sprint doesn't want it. That Sprint can't wiggle out of this contract is a testament to what a skilled negotiator Chairman Reinsdorf is. I believe, Sprint is not part of the naming contract. Sprint bought the service in Chicago. US Cellular is still a viable company just not in the Chicago area. So while owning the naming rights to a stadium in an area you do not service is idiotic, that is what US Cellular does.
  21. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 04:40 PM) Come on Balta, you're better than this. This post is something I would expect from Marty. I clearly explained where I was coming from and why. However, it's not just about Beckham being out of chances. It's about Semien being ready. Even if he plays well early on, the coaching staff may decide there are thins he needs to work on before being ready for a full season in the MLB. I'd rather wait a little too long in making him the full time 2B than bring him up too early just because the current starter sucks.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 12:54 AM) So he was born march 16th. Named him after my favorite sox talk poster. j4l. Jk Compromise, Jordan Thomas. Obviously easy to figure out which players. Congrats!!!! Jordan Danks and Tom Gordon?
  23. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 06:24 PM) Agree. The only downside to him being here is a thinner bench. As far as taking away time from young players, that isn't the case. This is the American League. The sox do not need to do alot of double-switches like the National League. One extra MI and OF is enough. PK will help the team by being their best hitter off the bench.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 28, 2014 -> 11:09 PM) It's going to be really interesting to see if he can still maintain his bat speed and rhythm as a hitter playing only 2-3 times per week at age 38. I agree. He is a feel hitter. It may help at his age to play sparingly but he may also lose that touch.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 28, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) Liddi would be the perfect Jeff Keppinger (with a bit more pop and the ability to play OF) if we didn't already have Keppinger. They probably prefer Garcia's defensive ability and baserunning skills. Yet another example of the effect of Paul Konerko on the roster possibilities. I think he is the best RH hitter the Sox have for a pinch hitter. He is alot better than any of the others.
