  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) Looks like quickman and I might be the last two grizzly bears on this thread. Expect this to degenerate into a thread about PBR and Blatz at any moment. Put me in your category. I agree with everything you've said. That's why my seats are in the first row on the end. Nobody is in front of me and very few need me to move. If it degenerates into PBR and Blatz and death is not an option, I'll take Blatz. I once worked in a clinic that was part of the old Blatz Brewerey. Half of it was still the brewery the other half a clinic. It was very difficult to come back to work after lunch or go straight home.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) Good point, I cannot read your mind...Guess I was wrong Point is, I think that Maggs was a great player for the sox, produced in ways that we hadnt seen in a long time. But the character flaws are coming into light now. He told ownership not to hire Ozzie-personal attack, he left the city that he said he wanted to stay in for the possibility of more money-greedy, he now says unsolicitied that Ozzie is his enemy and he wouldnt talk to him-personal attack. What do you expect Ozzie to do in that situation, knowing who Ozzie is. He is not Phil Jackson, when he got Ozzie we knew that he was the type of person who responds honestly, and when personally attacked, again, of course he is going to respond. If that makes you feel uncomfortable, then you should write JR and tell him to re-hire Manuel. I think that Ozzie's response was fine, Maggs is acting like a little girl. I do not hate him because he is not on our team, in fact I still Love El Caballo among others, but Maggs is not the person I thought he was, because if he wasnt a whiner, then he wouldnt have said what he said, and he could of taken the high road. I agree. This whole thing started when a reporter asked MAGGS a question and he said Guillen was his enemy. Guillen was responding to what Maggs said about him. I wish all of this would end also but Maggs brought it up. I hope Maggs does well but please shut up.
  3. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) Bernstein on the Score this morning drew the same inference - that Ozzie knows that Maggs used roids, and could "hurt" Maggs that way. Bernstein also recalled a conversation from their opening day remote. He said he told KW "Did you know that edema can cause your forearms to shrink?" jokingly, and KW just ignored the opening. FWIW. Rumor in MLB locker rooms had it that Mags was one of the big abusers.
  4. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 10:22 AM) Just heard on ESPN radio that Nomah will go under the knife. Not sure when he returns yet but might be after two months at best or next year at worst If surgery is needed to repair the muscle he will be gone for the year. Muscles are extremely difficult to do surgery on and even harder to rehab. One surgeon I worked with said "it is like trying to permanently tie two pieces of spagetti together."
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) No excuse to lose a Hernandez/Elarton match-up. Elarton was throwing meatballs tonight, and we couldn't give ourselves a big enough lead because of some stupid managerial decisions by Ozzie. Everett should never, ever be in the outfield. Oh well, we're going to have to start hitting better at the Cell, because Jacobs Field was playing like Yellowstone this week, and saved us a lot of Indians homers. Patience my Padawan, down the dark path haste will lead you. Yoda
  6. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) Apparently, I have. Details? he's been taken into cutody for these problems in the past but his wife doesn't press the charges. This is also part of th fundamentalist relion he believes in. He has appaerently said that it is ok to hit your wife and kids with a stick as long as it is smaller around then your little finger. He said it was in the Bible somewhere. I can't find the source as it was when he was in Boston awhile ago. I've got a friend in Boston, I'll see if he can dig it up.
  7. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) What don't I know about Sheff?? I don't know what other people know about him. But when I was with the Brewers he routinely threw plays and cussed at the fans because he hated the town. He would field a ball at third, look at Trebelhorn, smile, throw it into the stand and say "when am I getting traded out of this @#%^& town." Absolutely no class and a worse human being.
  8. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) The Tadpole POPS UP. Where is the great clutch hitter? Now Valnetin or Lee or Maggs would have smashed that one Which one of them would have been the 2B. The sky is falling!!!!
  9. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) I just saw the repaly, what happened after Sfee therw the ball in? It looked like he wnet after him again and they cut off the replay. Stupid, drunk fans, everyone in that section is taunting Sheff too. From my experience in the MLB, Sheffield is one of the worst people in the game. I'm sure hecontinued the problem with the fan in some manner.
  10. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) Outside of the whole bizarre dinosaur thing (which he has the right to believe what he wants), Carl seems like a decent and normal guy. Obviously you've missed the domestic and child abuse problems.
  11. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 07:21 PM) Gotcha. Thanks. Scapula is the shoulder blade
  12. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) Any word on Carl? On the radio on the way home they said contusion of the scapula.
  13. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) Isn't food provided for the players at the stadium before and after games? Plus, don't forget the about 100 dollars per diem for meal money.
  14. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) I'll tell you what Duque does for us that even Freddy doesn't and only Buehrle does" he makes you feel not that you have a chance to win today but that you WILL win today. It's a great feeling to have This is the best part about him for the fans. The confidence that he gives us before he even pitches.
  15. QUOTE(Fotop @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) Three Year Averages Dye vs. LHP: OPS of .767 (OBP .354) Everett vs. LHP: OPS of .655 (OBP.301) Dye vs. RHP: OPS of .735 (OBP .306) Everett vs. RHP: OPS .862 (OBP .361) From that it looks like it should be a classic Dye v. Lefties, Carl v. Righties platoon. Therefore, they both would be playing a good amount of time even if it wasn't a strict platoon because Everett could play LF or DH to give other players rest days. If they go by the numbers, Everett should still be getting a good amount of ABs even after Frank gets back. By the numbers, yes. In reality you will lose one or both of them and lose the whole situations. This is why successful strict platoon situations are rare
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) You are right. There should be no reason to see Gload in the OF with the depth we have out there. that's right. His performance in the outfield could be kindly termed as "uncomfortable" and accurrately described as poor.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) I think they would rather have seen how it healed before messing with it.. That is usually the best way to handle these situations. The is still no guarantee that he will ever be able to play. They did the right thing.
  18. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) It was in like early October...I remember like last week being the 6 month anniversary of the surgery. They should have done this surgery as soon as he was hurt instead of waiting. That's right I do remember an article about the 6 month anniversary not too long ago.
  19. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) just wonder if he's really got a virus or he's really got bad wheels. Can't the Tigers get out of his contract if he misses X number of games because of knee trouble? I just wonder about his overall health. And it certainly seems like the Sox did the right thing by not paying him. The contract was reported as 25 days or more on the DL due to the knee problem. This cetainly doesn't fall under that. So, who knows what the real issue is.
  20. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) What date did he have the surgery on? I believe it was last July but I'm not sure On second thought that was the injury. I'm not sure when the surgery was performed
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) Yikes.. I never knew girls could get them also. I thought just boys had "groins".. Yep, just themuscles in the inside of the thigh from the hip to the knee. Although the main part of the muscle is near the hip. Men just always think with the area, that's why they hurt it more.
  22. QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) That's so Jerry Manual-ish. Never be satisfied with 2/3 when you can get the sweep! Tonight was a sweet win for one main reason: the Count showed some resiliency out there. When he gave up run #3 in the 2nd, I thought it was going to be a rough outing, but then he did a great job shutting them down until the homer in the 7th. It was really a great effort by the Count, even if it doesn't show up as a win, helping his ERA or Ks or win contribution. Red 3 I believe
  23. I also believe Ozzie had Hermanson warming before we took the lead in case it went longer. It's always best if you can pitch the reliever if they have warmed. He could have pitch Hermanson then went to Shingo but as I said earlier I like what he did.
  24. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) Shingo has some trouble with lefties and Crisp, Sizemore, and Hafner are all lefties. It was a smart move by Ozzie, period. I agree. Sidearm throwers are suceptible to the opposite hitters. When you have a number of lefties coming up, I would go away from Shingo also.
  25. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) I hope he's not rushed nor overworked. He's on the smaller size, they need to keep that arm healthy... I agree with being that young they need to increase his innings and pitch totals gradually. If he keeps it up he looks like another good one.
