Yep, I'm going to suggest it.
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 06:12 PM) After 23 posts, someone had to say it. Good point.

Yep, I'm going to suggest it.
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) Why am I the only one who hears a suggestion that we should think about Jeff Weaver who thinks "You know, I'm not sure, but I really don't think that I'd give any money for a veteran pitcher who last year went 7-13, put up a 1.53 WHIP, and a 6.20 ERA, at least until one of our pitcher's arms falls off. And that's assuming some sort of terrorist attack on our minor league affiliates. I'd rather have one of our young guys put up those numbers instead of Jeff Weaver. At least they'd have a chance at getting better if they were getting experience, and they'd cost $400k this year. I'm sure you're not the only one that hears it, but the only one that will comment on it. Honestly, it's not worth a serious response.

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
Here in Kentucky, I rarely get to watch hockey. So when I get the chance, it's Boston vs. New York. Shocking, I know.

Just for kicks....
QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) I'm so pissed that they've painted themselves into a corner where they're going to be straight up giving away a fan favorite, gold glove caliber, clutch-hitting homegrown talent (not to mention my favorite player). I know it's a combination of management, injury, the emergence of Fields, and Crede's representation that it's gotten to this point, but it just sickens me that another team is going to get this for giving up a small pile of crap. Since they gave up on the Fields in LF experiment last year, they're pretty limited with options. What I'd like to see happen is Joe proves himself healthy in spring training, then you TRY to work out a longer term extension. If he bites, see what you can get for Fields which is hopefully some young pitching. I am a huge Joe Crede fan, but given Feild's potential and the money differential for the next few years, Josh Fields makes more sense than Joe Crede.

Just for kicks....
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) Sometimes not making a trade is the best trade. Personally, I'd like to see Crede resigned. I would not mind the IF corners covered for the next three seasons with Crede and Konerko. I'd love that scenario to play out, but sadly, I think it's a pipe dream.

Octavio Dotel signs with Sox
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) I now see a report on Chisox.Com that this signing has not come to pass. The way things go around here with the Sox I would guess he signs with some other team now that we are the "front runner" That's probably right.

ozzie looking at colon
Considering we know what Colon is capable of when healthy, we just might catch lightning in a bottle. As far as Danks and Floyd are concerned we just have to hope they are decent.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) I have more respect for someone who slips into this country, illegally, and works hard to provide for his family and does not break any other laws than someone who legally sits on his ass and waits for the government check to arrive. I believe that working hard is closer to the American way than legally collecting a public aid check. Sadly, that is less true than it used to be.

Bush Calls for $140 Billion Economic Aid Package
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) I hit on something with my son when he was younger. We always tried to turn a negative into a positive by using it as a teaching moment and seeing what we could learn from that mistake. Most people can learn from their mistakes, but how many people really learn something from their successes? Doesn't eliminating mistakes lead to successes?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) We've created a huge problem with some of these programs. A helping hand is one thing, a lifetime is another. Which is one reason I have respect for anyone who wants to come here and take any job, work hard at it, save some money, and even buy a house. Some may mock that, but that to me is the American dream, and important. Work hard, obey the laws, do your best. I welcome people to this country that will do these things.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Agreed. But I think even with the absolute best class possible, there needs to be some refresher, some whatever later in life. There is. It's called the School of Hard Knocks. Experience is a great teacher.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) Or remembering people starving to death in the United States during the depression. The best thing the occured to put food in peoples mouths was programs like the CCC. It put people to work. Of course a world war didn't hurt the ecomony either. But that's another issue.

Bush Calls for $140 Billion Economic Aid Package
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) I've never understood why our entire economy is based on speculative values of companies. It's because the money men know and set the rules. The reason is always profits.

Bush Calls for $140 Billion Economic Aid Package
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) Would this be a good time for a Republican President to hand out gifts to the tax payers? When is the next election? Just remember that this will have to be approved by a Democratic congress.

Bush Calls for $140 Billion Economic Aid Package
I didn't take the time to read the entire commentary by Dean Witter, but usually the first paragraph or two cover the crux of the matter. But, wouldn't Dean Witter have a vested interest in persuading the average investor that stock market is not only healthy but undervalued?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) Then again, it was their generations massive underfunding of medicade, social security, and all of the other entitlement programs that is going to bankrupt this country in the first place. Or, it could be the implementation or expansion of these entitlement programs that bankrupt the nation.

GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) I think the GOP religious conservative base is a bit leery of Romney, both on the Mormon issue and on his electability. I think the Morman issue is the cause of their concerns on his electability, for the most part.
