QUOTE(JimH @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) Eddie Stanky was having the same sort of stress problems, and there was a mini revolt in the clubhouse, because 1968 was going so poorly. Sox ownership at the time felt the need to bring back someone who could keep everything in line, that's why they went back to Lopez. Don Gutteridge, one of Lopez's long time coaches, finished up the 1969 season as I recall. Oh, you really didn't need to remind me of the Don Gutteridge era.

I still think Joe Crede, in particular, and defense, in general, are under appreciated by many on this board. Still under appreciated after pitching and defense were the main strengths that led to the title. Every time a guy like Crede makes a great play, it takes a hit away from from the opposition. In the overall scheme of things, a hit stolen has as much impact on a game as a hit with the bat in your hands. When you are talking about Crede, you have to consider clutch defensive plays as well as clutch hits. Hell, he saved game three for us ... Twice! I also think that you saw a new, improved version of Joe Crede emerge over the last month. He carried himself with more confidence. You could just see it. I believe that the old, frustrating Joe Crede is a thing of the past and that he will, from this point on, be the Joe Crede we all expected.

Just enjoy it. Look back at it. Relive it. Relish in it. Enjoy the feeling of success, of being totally satisfied at the end of a baseball season.

I'll be 48 years old later this week, and for the first time in my memory, I am not the least bit sad that baseball season is over. I feel so content and fulfilled. It's been a long time coming, boys and girls.

I had forgotten the Lopez came back to manage the Sox in 68 and 69. RIP Senor.

QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) The guy yelling "Dick Allen emancipated the White Sox! We wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for him..." and then he kept comparing him to Christopher Columbus. Even the black people around me rolled their eyes, just enjoy the parade rather than trying to grab attention Actually, Allen did save the Sox. The franchise was going right down the s***ter until he brought his big bat to the south side.

QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) so THIS is gonna be the chant at the crosstown classics from now on huh? I can't think of anything more appropriate.

Damon has been a good ballplayer, but I certainly would not sign him to a longterm deal. He might be effective for another year or two. As far as his arm goes, we had a very popular CF'er with a wet noodle hanging from his shoulder named Lance Johnson. Having said that, I'd much rather have Rowand and his relatively inferior offensive production out there than Damon.

Respond to each "point" he makes with this: "2005 World Champion Chicago White Sox" That ought to do it.

Congrats SnB!

Rumor: AL Playoff OF tests positive for steroids
YASNY replied to DonkeyKongerko's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 02:21 AM) I refuse to believe that the person who tested positive is anyone from the White Sox until an official from MLB makes an announcement to the contrary. The actions of the players on the team and the team in general in the past 2-3 years point to them being clean. You are right. If you consider that the Sox were going to not take the test during ST 2004 so that they would be counted as "failed", which would then cause the steroid testing policy to kick in. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:27 AM) Now that we have the WS and Victory Parade behind us, can everyone go back to the bitter, sarcastic, the sky will fall, you are an idiot, gloom and doom, ways? Damn, I hate all this happy talk. I remember posting earlier in the year, perhaps before he season started that trends happen in sports, and the Sox were very similar to the Patriots and the Spurs. Good citizens, not an obvious HoF in the starting line-up, but having great balance. Oh shut up!
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:56 AM) Yeah none of our other players had a major role into leading us to the WS.... He was acknowledged, by other players, as one of the key team leaders ... along with Buehrle. I think if they feel he was a main leader, well then, his leadership role was not "overrated".

Jerry's been keeping himself out of the spotlight for years. We saw a side of him that many of us had never seen before. I've been critical of him in the past, yet I've never considered myself to be permantly anti-Jerry. Over the past couple of years, I started to believe that he really wanted to win it all. I think KW was the catalyst. I knew the day that KW traded for David Wells that he was willing to take a shot and go for it. The deal didn't work out, but the philosophy behind it was obvious. KW kept trying and Jerry kept letting him take his shots. That's what convinced me that JR wanted to win.

I just heard Bill Melton on the score. He said that Konerko had expressed concern that the union would pressure him to just take the highest dollar to keep the market on an upward swing. Melton said he to Paulie to screw the union, they'll forget about him as soon as he hangs 'em up and to do what he believed was best for himself. For the record, these are not direct quotes.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 06:36 AM) Idonno a longterm deal of Konerko involving 14 million per year just isnt worth it... I know Konerko is a great guy in the clubhouse and all but I think his "leadership" role is a bit overated. I agree. I mean, what's he led us to? :headshake

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) I want Carl gone as much as anyone(except White Sox Josh apparently)...but I hope I'm not the only one that appreciated what he did in the postseason for the Sox. I'm still wondering to this second if Willie, even with his tremendous speed, scores from 2nd on Dye's hit up the middle. He probably does...but it would have been 1000x closer had Everett not grounded out to 2B, allowing Willie over to 3B. I must admit...I'll miss the guys fire and intensity...but his ticket has been punched already. As slow as that ball was hit up the middle, Willie would have easily scored.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) I know this is going to push down all of the "where I can I find that one song?" and "Did you see these pictures of AJ?" posts. Too Bad. Deal with it. I've had these two links in my back pocket since about 6. I didn't post 'em cuz I wanted to see if they would end up here. I went out and had a few drinks, checked back here. Still nothing. These were the type of links that I almost never got to post here because, by the time my lame ass stumbled across them, they had already been posted to the Best Sox Board on the net. Man Soo Lee's favorite Korean Cartoonist. Everyone's favorite WindSock gets Pwned (by a Cubs fan too) Ouch. Now back to your regularly scheduled "Any Famous Sox Fans?" and "[insert media outlet here] said something that I completely blew out of proportion" threads. Carry on. Were any of the Sox fans that responded to that blog famous?

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 02:06 AM) Well I would disagree that pitching is undervalued. Its expensive and important (for the most part). You are on to something with defense though. Defense is certainly undervalued around here.

Thanks. Gracias. Domo.

I'd hate to see Paulie go. He's an important part of this team. However, he owes the Sox and Chicago nothing.

Even Walker.
