  1. Thinking about having to pay Burnett near $10M per year makes we want to just walk away from this deal. Compare Burnett's career to Buehrle's and then go to Mark and say, "Hey, we are going to pay Burnett $10M. What do you think about it?"
  2. To all the newbies that shouted out in this thread .... Welcome to Soxtalk.
  3. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) I never understood that as dye cannot get to anything that's not within 15 feet of him either way. He is the outfield version fo royce clayton. Rare that you make errors when you don't have to move for them. Dye also cannot off any thing do to his lack of speed. Dye's overall defense has been less than average and that is probally being nice. Cheat's assesment was 100% on about podsednik in my opinion. I think I'll take Rowand's word for it.
  4. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 12:35 AM) I know. Like I said, I rely on my eyes too. And my eyes say he has played a bunch of singles into doubles, outs into hits, and has an absolute noodle arm. I'm most disappointed in how he plays balls that are sure hits. I thought coming into the season that he would get to those qiuckly, and hold runners to less bases, but that's just not the case. Runners are always thinking extra bases when the ball is on the ground near pods. So average at best defensively. I know that Rowand, on more than one occasion, has commented on the fact that both corner outfielders cover more than ground than those who previously played the positions. Yet, both guys have been criticized for their defense much more than Lee and Ordonez were last year.
  5. I'm proud of the way the Sox organization, players, manager sons and fans came together to get Scott voted in. There is something special happening on Chicago's south side this summer and it's a pleasure to experience it, even if I'm doing so from a distance. Crawford can have his little pout session. It means nothing.
  6. Podsednik is passable in LF, and a large part of that is due to his speed. He's no gold glover out there, but he's better defensively than Carlos Lee was for us.

Let the national media say what they want. I look at the standings and that tells me all I need to know about the White Sox.
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 12:04 AM) We're talking if Rowand is going to return to last season's form, that may not happen. Wells has a proven track record, and has 30-30 potential, which you can't say for many CF's at all, and his speed would fit in nicely with Ozzie's use of running. Is team image that important, when you have an oppurtunity to improve your team? Why trade for a Burnett, or Vizquel then to replace an El Duque or Uribe? I'll take a guy like Rowand, who you know is going to bust his ass all the time, over a guy like Wells who has "potential" but doesn't quite put his heart and soul into the came.
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) Guys id like Schmidt on our team as much as the next guy but I really dont see it happening. From all accounts by scouts he is only a good starter now not a great one and the asking price would be way high for him. That being said I dont mind if we trade any prospects away for a proven ace, the only guy in our minors im really looking forward to is Brian Anderson... and possibly Chris Young but if his value is really high I could part with him. I know this might not go well with you, but how about asking the Rangers about Kenny Rogers. He just had that incident and all but hey he is old and probably could use the 20 day rest. He also has been wanting a new contract that Texas wont give him and with him being old I dont think the asking price would be 2 high. That is thinking outside the box, and that's not a bad idea. The Rangers are like the sun, sinking slowly in the west. Rogers is 40, but I believe he signed a 2 year, $6 million contract before the season, so his salary is a bargain for the production he's getting. A couple of young arms might pry him away from Hart, even though he's more of an offense oriented GM.
  10. We absolutely should not trade Joe Crede, unless he's part of a deal for Chavez. Vizquel is showing no signs of slowing down? Robbie Alomar was not showing those signs when the Mets traded for him, but that didn't work out so well. Those two extra years on OV's contract scare me, too.
  11. Well, Dibble's credability factor is shot to hell.
  12. Though I don't post at WSI, I have nothing but respect for what they've done with that site. Great interviews with ex-Sox players. Great photos. Etc.

  18. QUOTE(TimoandAaron @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) hey, i have been posting at WSI for a bit and wanted to check this site out. I was at the game last night and we did a great job with the Standing O for Pods. Welcome to the BEST Sox message board.
  19. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) I've wet myself several times this year...whattya gonna do? I like the idea of chanting 'Go, Go, Go'....whenever Pods gets on base... I do too. In fact, I tried to start that chant when I was there for the Cub series. It is White Sox baseball, White Sox history ... why not use it to our advantage?
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Is there a way to stuff this ballot? This must be much easier than the MLB system. Why bother? This is nothing but an ESPN b****fest.
  21. When it was Veritek and Matsui, it was due to the great REd Sox Nation and Yankee Nation. With us it's "hick".
  22. That is a great weekend for the get together.
