QUOTE(JimH @ May 17, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) True, but the positive here is the organization in Birmingham has some very good people, starting with the manager. They are hopefully a very good support network for Jenks. This would be a good topic to cover with Dave Wilder - how is Jenks coming along, have the White Sox discussed on field and off the field expectations with him, etc. No doubt he has great talent and judging by his results in '05, Sox fans can hope he'll have a bullpen role relatively soon. It's good planning by the White Sox. Their closer situation is muddled, and there'll be decisions to make for 2006 (Takatsu). Jenks is being groomed and being given an opportunity. If he does well in Birmingham I can see him being in a set up role for 2006 in Chicago, working his way up to closer at some point. Lots of "if's" in that scenario but if it works out ... again, he is quite a talent. Perhaps a certain amount of maturity will set in with this guy.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 17, 2005 -> 07:01 AM) The old standby of two independent sources verifying information has been reduced to 1 source. Much of this was not pushed by the mainstream media, but independent Internet based web sites. These sites were not and are not held to the same standards as the Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, Tribune, or any other main stream media source. Drudge can publish allegations that Kerry was having an affair, never apologize, and it barely registered a blip on the radar screen. Even in days gone by, two lairs could get a fake story printed, now it takes just one source. Every administration had ways of planting stories, trial balloons, damaging opposition stories. Now it is much easier for both parties, especially the conservatives. They are forcing the media to be biased in their direction and have the 24/7 radio on their side. They only need one high ranking official to whisper to one reporter. Journalism requires trust of the sources. Journalism doesn't work if they need to hire a team of detectives and issue polygraphs to every source. We have to accept that for journalists to uncover the Monica Lewinsky's of the world, they may occasionally fall prey to a dishonest person. With the miles of print and hours of coverage every day, it probably is amazing they are accurate as much as they are. So, what you are saying here is that because bloggers practice shoddy journalism, that justifies the main stream media doing the same. Sorry, but that doesn't fly in my opinion.

I didn't exactly rip the guy, but I put a few barbs in my email to him.

That's a pretty big "if" based on what I've heard about this guy.

I wonder how many of you that are upset about this alleged desecration of the Quran would get half as indignant over a similar desecration of the Bible.

Let him donate they whole liver. Both problems solved.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 16, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) Since qwerty said this on May 6, they have won 8 in a row. Now, look at all of the responses to what he said. Amazing, simply amazing. Even a blind squirrel finds the occasional nut.

Maris, no. Santo deserves to be there imho.

When the hell do we start worrying about Konerko??

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:02 AM) The whole reason it's a risk is because if both of your catchers are in the same lineup and both of them get injured, you are screwed. Yes, it has a very slim chance of happening but it could happen. For example, A.J. could get pegged in the foot by a pitch (like he already has) and Widger could pull his groin (like Uribe did). You guys act like it's out of the realm of possibility. How many injuries did we have in that one week during the Oakland series? If Burke was on the roster over Kevin Walker, I would have no problem with it. The odds of that are only very slightly better than both catchers getting injured in the same game when one replaces the other. -
I believe I heard the CSN will also televise Sunday's BP. This opening the gates earlier idea should be bounced off of Brooks. I'm sure he spin it to his advantage if they changed the policy.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 17, 2005 -> 02:47 AM) I already have my doubts. How many times does Dye take a first-pitch fastball right down the middle of the plate only to swing at a breaking ball in the dirt? I just can't believe some of the pitches he swings at. Instead of trying to drive a ball that's thrown right down the pipe he seems to always swing at low pitches that he can golf out of the park. Most of his homers have been golfed-out shots. Paulie's doing the same s***. :headshake

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 17, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) That is saying something. Ain't it the truth!

QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ May 17, 2005 -> 02:43 AM) Jermaine Dye will get better. Then where will all you haters be? I hope so, but even I am beginning to have doubts.

QUOTE(Steff @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) LMAO at you and 01!! I'm sure Brian will be dialing as well. Isn't it nice to be so loved?

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 16, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) This was brought up in chat tonight and its a really valid point. Why is it that some of our pitchers ( Duque, Contreras and Viz come to mind here ) go 0-2, 1-2 then start nibbling at the corners and end up walking the batter. This has happened a bucketful of times tonight and its happened a lot in a bunch of other games those 3 I mentioned have pitched in. Why are these guys scared to go after a hitter when they're ahead in the count? Because they are afraid of what Nuke will say on Soxtalk if they give up a dinger on an 0-2 pitch.

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 17, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) Sarcasm. I was the main person that couldn't understand jabroni's logic. I knew it was sarcasm. But, I wanted to put that popup scenario out there. -

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 17, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) But what if that the first baseman that you move to catcher ( who is actually a catcher in the first place) gets injured?!?!?!?!?!?!? That's no different than replace an injured catcher with the backup from the bench. If he gets injured, he gets injured. Of course, the catcher and 1B can collide on a foul popup and knock each other out, but that's a stretch as well. -
Konerko and Dye have both had success at the major league level where Borchard has not. That's like comparing apples and oranges.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 17, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) Of course you can. If the catcher gets injured, you move the 1B to C and put Paulie back out there at 1B You are just plain wrong Yep. I was trying to see the logic behind that statement as well. -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 16, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) 32-6 would be the best start in baseball history by about 3 games... THERE'S A REASON FOR THAT. You have to give credit to the other teams. These are major league clubs, and nobody wins at a .900 winning percentage. The 1984 Tigers went 35-5 to start the season.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 17, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) 2 dropped pop-ups and 2 balls rolling under his glove is enough to show me that Dead is dogging it in RF. If Dead keeps dogging it, I'm not so sure Everett would be that much of a downgrade defensively in RF. Sorry, but I disagree. Dye's not dogging it. He just screwed up.

Paulie needs to stop pulling the damn ball. He pulls everything. He's hitting hard, but it's either foul or right at the 3rdbaseman. -
I said in the offseason that we should consider trading Marte while he still has some value. He's certainly not the same pitcher he was two years ago.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) Not one. Not a couple. It's been a few, and that's unacceptable for the less-difficult position on the field. I believe I said "a few". I also didn't indicate that it was acceptable. However, I feel like it's an abboration. He's a better defensive outfielder than he has shown and over the course of the season, I think he'll perform better than he has so far.

QUOTE(Steff @ May 16, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) Don't worry.. all of us season ticket holders will buy them up so you don't get one. I'll be in touch.
