I don't know what happened to Koch, but he sure lost it when he came to the Sox.

QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) From one of my other posts. I feel that I do respect fans of different teams, I by no way disrespect Kentucky either, I just feel Duke would be able to beat them. As for Kentucky fans, it just so happens that the fans that I have talked to, seem pretty ignorant. Obviously all are not like that, but unfortunately I've come across a lot of bad ones. I did see that statement, but this all started when you made that original blanket remark. The remark of yours that you quoted didn't occur until after I had called you on the first one. Regardless, I made the offer of hatchet burial but you chose to ignore the offer. I'll take that for what it it's worth.

QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Yes, he's right, but this concerted effort to destroy Sosa in this town by people that once loved him and worshipped the cork he walked on is pathetic. :headshake Mariaotti was the leader of that band, too.

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) Back on topic ... The 3/8 online edition of Chicago Sports.Com had a one liner saying Borchard has one minor league option left. Hope that's true and hope Dennis Gilbert had a brain cramp. I knew I had recently seen that somewhere.

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) Hey now ... She was a very nice person. My fat buddy was hitting on her, he went to the washroom and she told me he did not compare to this other guy she knew from Chicago, and poof, your name came up. What can I say? Save the fat chicks for qman.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) You need to think about this logically. The Sox have injury-prone El Duque who has averaged I agree that if El Duque is still feeling & going strong in June & BMac is getting in done at Charlotte then Jon & Jose are expendable. But that's still a big IF & you need to wait it out. Ok, here's logic, based on this post. Our rotation now ... Buerhle, Garcia, El Duque, Contreras, Garland. Our rotation based on the above post ... Buerhle, Garcia, El Duque, BMac and ... and ... and ... ?????

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) Yas, I hope this is true, different info than what I heard down there. I really don't know for a fact. I do know I read it in a Chicago paper website.

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) He's out of options, he has to go thru waivers to get sent down. Try to keep up, please, you know exactly what I'm sayin'. One of the Chicago papers said he has 1 more option.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 07:14 AM) No, I meant Jordan ended his career in a Chicago jersey twice (not that it's 3 people). Enough is enough. He wanted too big of a role, and it was the right decision to not give it to him. He certainly didn't help Washington much. Jordan's the best ever, but you don't sacrifice your whole team for nostalgia. And Fisk was my favorite player when I was young, but it really was time to go. Everyone could see that but him. Frank is still playing at a very high level, and all he wants to do is play. I don't think this is implausible. And YASNY, yeah, I forgot about ending the baseball career. Though I could quibble about it being Chicago or Birmingham, but whatever. Quibble away, but I did specify a Sox affiliate jersey. Regardless, the post was made in jest.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 06:52 AM) I keep trying to remember the Steve Martin line in The Jerk. Something like isn't being a Dentist great! Everyone call you Doctor, but you're really not . . . all the while in "the chair" I can only remember two lines from "The Jerk" 1. The new phone books are! The new phone books are here! 2. I've got a "special purpose".

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 06:58 AM) ...3 times. And Fisk did end his career in a Sox jersey, just not on his terms. Jordan ended his career in a Bulls jersey ..... TWICE! And once in a Sox affiliate's jersey.

QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 06:22 AM) A question came up and wasn't sure where to get an answer. Thought I'd throw it up on the board hoping that someone might have some info. Does anyone know how long Hawk, DJ, Rooney, Farmer, Each One are signed for, and what salary status is of each? Thanks! Great sig pic, Rooftop. That was a beautiful old ballpark. The Urinal never could hold a candle to it.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 06:46 AM) Looks like writers have been reading Soxtalk again... http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=604927 I don't mind that the writers scroll Soxtalk to find original thoughts. I just wish they'd drop a prop to us in their column from time to time.

QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) If you guys were reading my post, you would have seen that I said that not all Kentucky fans were dumb, but the ones that I have come in contact with, are in fact frighteningly stupid. Thats not being prejudice. (Thats also how it's spelled) Anyway, sure there are stupid Duke fans, but I'm not one of them. Thats not a fair judgment when I'm on a board filled with Illinois, UNC, and Indiana fans. I'm the only Duke fan who defends his team on here, but I have no problem with that. I just kind of find it funny wwhen Duke wins the ACC tournament (which by the way, most of you said they wouldn't), and then you have a guy come on and just say "F Duke", how intelligent is that? Going back to that championship game, I saw everyone on here saying how bad that JJ Redick call was, I thought it was ticky-tac as well, but I didn't see anyone on here talking about the 2 over-the back "no-calls" on that posession for Georgia Tech which got them offensive rebounds and shot after shot to tie the game. No one wanted to talk about that, I guess no one saw it. The fact is, is that you can't possibly call me an ignorant fan when not one person on this board has ever given a fair assessment of the team that I root for. It's easy to say "F Duke" all the time when you haven't watched a game all year. For a team as hated as Duke is, I expect this kind of stuff, so it really doesn't bother me. I like it when everyone roots for them to lose, and then gets proven wrong. To start off, on your original post you did in fact call all UK fans ignorant. You never used the word all, but the way your sentence was structured it said as much. As for the correct spelling of prejudice, thank you. I knew it was spelled wrong but I was too pissed to bother looking it up. The only way I referred to ignorance on your part was in the fact that you showed your ignorance by grouping all UK fans as stupid. I was not commenting on your basketball knowledge in any way, shape or form. Why don't you visit a UK board and ask if someone wants to discuss basketball on an intelligent level with no flaming or trolling. I'm sure you'll get some stupid ass kids that can't help themselves as that's all some kids know how to do. But, I'm also sure you will find some highly intelligent UK hoops fans. Now, once again, let me reitterate that I have always thought highly of coach K and the Duke program. In fact, Duke and UK have had some classic battles in the NCAAT over the years. The overtime game with the Laettner shot to win is still one of my all time favorite games, even though my team lost. It was GREAT basketball game. It almost ranks up there with the '76 final when Goose Givens laid 41 on your Dookies. If you show UK and it's fans the respect due a program with more wins in NCAA history than any other, I'll show Duke and it's fans the respect that goes with a classy, respectable program and we can bury the hatchet. Deal?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) This team has avg'd 33L at Home the past 5 yrs & 45L on the road the past 4 yrs. They won it in 2000 because they were road warriors. What does that tell you? Just about any decent ballplayer can hit at the Cell. AJP & Pods are road warriors. You can look up their away stats to see that. They are significant upgrades at leadoff & #7 in that respect. I challenge any pessimist to refute that. All of this "will they catch up to Shingo" talk is pure BS. There is nothing in last yr's stats to suggest any of that happening. Shingo doesn't just thow frisbees. He throws them for strikes. On the other side of the page Marte showed slight weakness vs RH last yr & still dominates LH. Cooper has him taking a much more aggressive stance this year & is pushing him to go inside on them. If he can nail that inside corner pitch on the RH's I expect him to return to his 03 form. Vizcaino & Hermanson represent huge upgrades over last yr's pen. Between Marky B, Freddy G, El Duque, & Jose C, & Jon G the Sox expect to have only 50 poor starts. That's a major improvement over the 2004 rotation. The other 112 starts are expected to be quality or winnable. You keep pounding on the road record thing. Here's a newsflash for you. We all know the Sox have to win more on the road. It's an old baseball axiom that to be successful, you have to play .500 or better baseball on the road. You can ease up on the topic, because all that were not aware of it, certainly are by now.

Jurassic is a good solid ballplayer. Before he can to the Sox in '03 I always thought he was a headcase, because of the Boston situation. He proved that he wasn't and I'm glad to have him on the squad to start the season, for a change.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 01:49 AM) Congress has better things to do. Unless the cops or the feds want to arrest these guys for steroids. Otherwise, leave this to major league baseball for christ sake. Plus for cripes sake, why put Thomas and Schlling in the same group with all these guys accused of being on roids. On one hand, I agree with you. Congress has plenty more important things to worry about. On the other hand, I'm glad baseball is not being allowed to sweep this under a rug. I'd still like to see a tougher and more comprehensive testing program. I'd love baseball to go back to a somewhat closer version of the game that I grew up watching. Perhaps, this congressional investigation will be a catalyst that leads to that.

I believe southsider2K5 summed up this thread very early, with the word "illogical".

BMac will make an appearence before the break, I believe. And once he shows up, that's it. He'll take someone's spot in the rotation. One thing this impressive ST showing by BMac does, is that it gives Ozzie an ace in the hole, to twist a phrase, to use on Garland and Contreras. When he tells Garland to quit nibbling and attack hitter or Contreras to use his heater, and these guys don't listen he can just remind him we have this "kid" ready and waiting in Charlotte.

The game they were talking about next with that Stone will do is a D'Backs - Cubs game.

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) look, im not here to say borchard is going to be a superstar but people keep saying "its time for him to move on" as if we should just let him go or trade him for a 35 year old pioneer league outfielder who weighs 300 pounds. at one point, scouts who know a hell of a lot more about baseball than any of us ever will know called him the best power prospect since mark mcgwire..there was a reason we payed him 5 million dollars. so whats the problem with just running him out at charlotte for the next couple years. something could click, its not a ridiculous notion...we all saw chris singleton and scott posednik and how they were horrendous until they were 28 (yes singleton was only good for one year but thats not the point). the point is, thats what AAA is for. keep him down there and let him keep trying to figure things out. ozzie says he works his ass off and its better than running a 32 year old former steroid user reject who actually had a lower batting average than joe in the outfield last year. I agree with you. We have at least this season to see if things ever click for him, as he's got one more option remaining. If they do, it can really be an unexpected boost to the team. If not, we'll have lost nothing more than what has already been lost.
