QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) God hates me Man, I got to give you credit. You hung in there through thick and thin with this team, especially in the face of all this Illini love on this site. I'm a half-assed UK fan, and therefore no fan of the Hoosiers at all. But I had to give you your props. *salute* PS: We need a saluting smilie. -
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) South Korean pitcher Sang Ho Moon, 23, pitches as Chicago White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper, left, and General Manager Ken Williams watch, during a free agent tryout at the Chicago White Sox spring training facility in Tucson, Ariz., Tuesday, March 1, 2005. Moon reportedly played professional ball in Korea in 1999 and 2000, and is returning to baseball after a manditory four-year military service obligation. For some reason, I can picture this guy replacing Charlie Sheen as a Korean Wild Thing in Majoe League.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) Don't worry about it. I've got really poor reading comprehension.(My ACT scores in HS went something like this. Math 32, Science 30, Other Category 27, Reading 12) So I tried to dumb it down because I know I didn't follow, and I thought I had a solid grasp of the concept. And you do. But since I'm a nice guy, I'll type slower from now on.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) I think they can pay 2-4 million per year for someone who is turning into one of the best lead-off hitters in baseball. Well ... I said July of '07, which will be his 5th year. If he's that good of a leadoff hitter, he'll be looking at closer to 5 or 6 million in arbitration. Anything close to that and he's at 15 to 25 percent of the team's payroll. Sayanara, Carl.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) Because YASNY lost even me, in simplest terms. Players are property of one team for their first 6 years in the majors. They become arbitration eligible after three seasons. The first three seasons they make near league minimum. That is the case for most of the 17 who were signed. Oh well. I tried.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) Let's just expand on this a little. Damon's OBP - .380 Cabrera's OBP - (Season .306) (Boston .320) Now let's have a look at the White Sox's top of the order; Harris OBP - .343 Rowand OBP- .361 Boston top of the order OBP = .700 Chicago top of the order OBP = .704 Cabrera + Damon's salary - $6,000,000 + $8,000,000 = $14,000,000 Harris + Rowand's salary - $318,500 +$340,000 = $658,500 You realize of course, that your post was directed at a guy that thinks he'd make a great GM. Ya gotta love it! :rolly

QUOTE(joemg311 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) ok... I'm getting closer can someone please elaberate.. am i the only one who is lost here? Elaboration: The young players are considered to be property of the White Sox, until they fulfill certain major league length of service conditions, then the become eligible for free agency if they are not bound by contract. Along the way, guys reach a ML service level and become arbitration eligible. These signees are not to that point yet. Basically, they are in a situation like many of us in the regard that they go to boss who says we are giving you X$ raise this year.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 01:36 AM) Does it look like moon pitches from down under to anybody else from that pic? No. He's from Korea, not Australia.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) Why? This is only gonna be his third full year in the league. He is not gonna get any sort of ridiculous contract. It will be right around what he could have made in arbitration over that time. Look at TB's payroll.

Ron Santo belongs in the HOF. Cubby Bulls*** aside, he was a great ballplayer.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) And they deserve it. They scheduled real teams and left Lexington once or twice before 2005, unlike Kansas did. But these next two weeks will be really telling as the confrence tournies come and go. There have got to be about 10-12 different teams who could still end up as #1 seed. Exactly. It's WAY too early to call. -
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) I'll try to help this thread out Yasny, the only reason why I watch Baseball Tonight is because of baseball, the hosts piss me off sometimes. Sure they do. As they do me. But I know it's because my opinion is somewhat biased. And after all these years of being a Sox fan, jaded is a possibility as well.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) Bunch of morons who know nothing about baseball. At least if they post anonymously that's what some of our members will think Ya think?

This thread is much adeau about nothing. BBTN is what it is.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) Even with this article I still respect Rogers. He has baseball knowledge and is pretty consistant when it comes to the big picture. He doesn't whore his beliefs out for a story... I used to feel the same way. Rogers used to be one of the best. However since he became the Cubs beat writer at the halfway point of last season, I've noticed a very distinct change in his point of view.

QUOTE(joemg311 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) can some one please explain to me what the situation with these contracts were... Because I didnt think anyone was a free agent or arbitration eligable??? whats goin on It happens every spring. The guys that are not arbitration eligible basically sign fopr what the Sox tell them to, within the bounds of the CBA. And it's not just the Sox, it's every team.

When championships what?

Don't give a any thought to a pitcher being ineffective in Arizona ... especialyy a pitcher that has never experienced ST there before. Hernandez is a veteran and knows what the hell he's doing. It don't mean a damn thing until April.
-
This is total bulls***. Magglio and Boras have been bad mouthing the Sox from the day Magglio signed Boras on as his agent. That piece of s*** Ordonez had no intention of staying here. He can rot in hell for all I care.

I don't blame Fisk one iota for going into the hall with a Red Sox hat. What they did to him and Donn Pall in '93 was classless. Carlton is my favorite ballplayer, period. The way he carried himself on the field and the respect he had for the game was top of the line. I'd love to meet this guy one time and shake his hand. I'd tell that as a fan, I appreciate what he did for the White Sox while he was in their uniform and what he did for the game, regardless of the uniform. I have every different Carlton Fisk baseball card I was ever able to find. Well over a hundred of them.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 02:36 AM) As soon as I saw the headline, I knew exactly where Rogers was going with this. This guy is becoming nearly as Cubby-love as Mariotti lately. Mariotti proves me right in comparing him and Rogers. http://www.suntimes.com/output/mariotti/cst-spt-jay011.html

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) Really? Wow. The combination of flavors sounds :puke to me. I've tried and it's not that bad. It's a flavor that I'd get tired of very quickly, but is ok if you want something different.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) We figure about 50 lbs. That's pretty good size but not terribly huge. If he's got Akita in him, he'll be great with kids.
-
QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) Four to seven years in Tampa Bay? Have fun Carl. They'll have to trade him for salary reasons before he stays there 4 years. July of 2007, He Gawn.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) :sleep Hey your right injuries are the reasons for eveything.. lets just say that it is easier I am done trying to prove basic logic with you guys on the topic at hand. Exactly. When "logic" doesn't work, you could always try a moronic, condescending attitude for a change.
