  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) im telling you, im not against him getting a chance if there is an injury on the sox. I think the fact that he is not an overpowering pitcher, and a more location and finesse pitcher, might bode welll for his development. He is sorta like a maddux thrower, I would like to see him up sooner than later. I'd rather see him up later than sooner. I'd rather keep BMac through his prime than loosing him to free agency as he gets there.
  3. Might as well. Anyway. It sounds like Borchard's close to stepping off the Sox plank.
  4. QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 07:38 AM) I was wondering the same thing you were at first. Maybe this is actually a pic after contact, and he's looking up to watch the hit? The ball is not far enough away from the bat. If he was watching the ball hit the bat, his eyes would still be there.
  5. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) What a jagbag. Oops, I meant Sosa. :sosasucks Sosa or Mariotti ... either qualifies.
  6. I've been doing some thinking abouts Barry Bonds and his recent rant. Let me preface what I'm going to say with this. Bonds bulked up prior to the 99 season, "coincedentally" after the McGwire-Sosa Maris chase. In the 5 years since he has hit over 250 home runs. So Bonds attributes his success to hard work. "That's about it" he says. Key word there, about, as it allows him technicality based mulligan on the truth. It seems to me that it might be hard work, or something, that is responsible for this. It certainly isn't genetics. What kind of production did Bobby Bonds put up beginning the season he turned 35 and beyond. Or is Barry implying that his father chose not to work so hard? Bonds also said that he was always better than Jose Canseco. Though that was arguable in the early 90's, I'll give him that ... for the sake of argument. Now can Bonds also say he was better than his godfather, Willie Mays, in his prime? Not in this lifetime and maintain whatever shadow of credibility he still possesses. Barry Bonds was not good enough to carry Willie Mays' jock. Yet, what kind of numbers did Mays produce after reaching age 35? Was it simply because Mays wasn't a hard worker? If Bonds can increase his production so dramatically at a point when most people are looking at being washed up in the near future, there is more to it than hard work and flaxseed oil. The day will come, when Bonds has to sit on a witness stand in open court and answer the questions he skirted around at his press conference. He won't be able to deflect these questions or turn it back on the prosecutor by say "put an asterisk next to your name". His answers won't be accepted just because it's him that's answering them. Barry Bonds, your day in court is coming. And I can't wait.
  7. I think we need to keep Cotts up with the team. The only way he'll learn how to get major league hitters out is by facing them. If he's needed as a starter in '06, they can stretch him out in spring training.
  8. Damn. Such a great idea. And from a blue state yet.
  9. QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) If being a true Sox fan means stressing myself out 162 times a year, that's too much like work. I'm at a point I never thought I'd be at - even the loss of an entire hockey season only upsets me in a very general sense. When I was younger, I would have been LIVID if the NHL skipped an entire season. Now it just seems pointless to get that upset about something that will happen whether or not I jump up and down and pout. I have to agree with you. This stuff is not really important when it comes down to it. It's entertaining, provides escapism, fun to talk about, etc. I love baseball and the Sox, but I did not have any noticable withdrawal symptoms in '94.
  10. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 01:28 AM) I could understand that, so long as the rotation goes in an order of 1-2-4-3-5...I do not want Contreras as our 3rd starter, because he is not our 3rd best starter at all. Ummm ... I fail to see what difference it makes whatsoever.
  11. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) It is the opening day of Ozzie's mouth again. I am not listening to a word Ozzie says right now. Contreras #3 starter? Uribe leading off against LHP? Iguchi hitting 9th? I don't buy any of them, quite frankly. Actually, I believe Contreras will start game 3 of the season. Ozzie's reasoning was very sound.
  12. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) No, it's merely pointing to one of the many reasons why our team was what it was. Schoeney doesn't have a clue...he's a jackass, and he always was, even on the Angles. Why in the WORLD would a 1 year guy be player rep? Not to mention he was essentially kicked OFF the Angles because he wouldn't do the job they asked of him...because he wanted to start, because he wanted things his way. WAHHHHH! He was a b****. I can't say for sure, but I'd guess that the Sox players elected SS as rep.
  13. I've got that final night game recorded.
  14. Y2HH, I can assure you that there are several posters here that enjoy meeting folks from Soxtalk. I was the fortunate recipient of a wonderful welcome when I made the trip up from Kentucky a couple of summers ago. I'm hoping to make at least one trip to the Cell this year. If I make, I'll be looking for you to get that beer.
  15. QUOTE(Nokona @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) You almost always lose sight of the baseball before you hit it unless you're completely concentrated on making contact (ie hit and run). Few people can watch a ball all the way all the time and still hit the ball extremely hard. I realize that seeing the ball all the way to bat is not an easy thing to do. I've played the game once or twice. Go to page 7 and look at the picture of Crede making contact, then look at the Iguchi picture. Compare where they are focused. You'll see my point.
  16. How many of those 150 other countries have tens of thousands of Americans firmly planted under crosses and stars of David on their soil. France, as an ally, is not worth the power to blow it hell and certainly not worth one more drop of American blood on their behalf. Period!
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) Why is it so important that you know what Bonds did or didn't do.. ? You say move on.. but here's another 'roid thread.. Bonds only wants to "move on" if we agree to slam the door on the past and allow him his glory for passing the Babe and the Hammer. I think we owe it to those guys to find out exactly what happened before we give Bonds his moment in the sun.
  18. QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Sup Chicken Little. "OH THE SKY IS FALLING. THE END OF THE WORLD IS COMING SOON. KIDS THESE DAYS DONT KNOW NOTHIN". Spare me. Someday, you'll probably ask someone else to spare you.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) Same can be said for Canada, Mexico, China, Germany, Poland, Italy, and all the others that didn't back our action in Iraq. There were WMD, Bush knew it, and these "pussy ass countries" didn't do a thing to help. Edited to add: Here's the Coalition of the Willing Full list of coalition countries: Afghanistan, Albania, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan. The rest of the world can go to hell. Actually, with Pearl Harbor, screw Japan. Afghanistan helped Iran during the hostage crisis, so screw them. Any of the ex-Commie countries can get lost also. Why are you so defensive of France?
  20. So currently only Spain and England are on our side. It is was it is and I stand by it. France can rot in hell. Not real happy with Canada these days either. Mexico has never been much of an allie. China? They certainly aren't allied. Poland and Italy have been somewhat supportive of our actions. Germany ... they rate with France to a certain degree ... but we didn't bail them out like we did France. Well, we bailed half of them out.
