QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) For the record I am not in the Ozzie camp on this. I think they should use El-D as sparingly as possible. Even with the goofy off days they can do that on 4 days rest & skip EL-D starts. That would drop El-D down to about 25+ starts. If El-D goes down at mid-season I"M BLAMING OZZIE! Now Ozzie won't be able to sleep tonight.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) With the addition of Hermanson, & Vizc they drop out of the 25 man roster. Adds & Subtracts only apply the the ML team. I guess you could put Grili & Munoz in the subtractions to then. But don't go so far as to add the Sept callups. There's another reason to give KW as well. He pushed the Sox to their highest payroll ever. That alone is worth an A You forgot Jurassic.

We don't know what kind of numbers he'll put up. People are making as close to an educated guess as possible. That's what you are seeing. No one is arguing the point that it is all speculative.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 12:51 AM) I know, I'm just throwin out the possibility in case he has a real bad year, and the Sox decide they can't get much in a trade for him (although looking at the market for starting pitchers this off-season, that's extremely doubtful). Contreras could be a good possibility to be moved, and then El Duque may injure his arm again, plus you've got B-Mac who could be ready by 2006. Still a lot of external factors to consider. "Throwing out" that possibility is what needs to be done with it. It ain't happening.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) Let's think ahead to the trading deadline. KW's got an extra 2 to 3 million to pull the trigger on a trade, to put us over the top. Where do you see that trade coming from and what position would he target to replace. Personally I think, it could be a third baseman who hits for a good average (Joe Randa) to replace Crede if he starts out slow again, and Josh Fields isn't ready, which he most likely won't be until 2006. Maybe a closer, if Shingo doesn't have a good year, and the likes of Marte, Hermanson or Vizcaino can't impress in the role either? I think it's way too early to speculate on that. As Billy Beane says, you play the first two months to see what your needs are. Ask again in early June.

Unless Garland's arm falls off, there's no way in hell they non-tender him. That's insane. He's got too much trade value to even consider just letting him walk.
-
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) I'll give KW his props for what he's done this offseason for sure. I'll praise him if he makes a trade by the deadline if he sees a weakness and solidifies it which would put us over the top. KW's never been afraid to pull that trigger. If JR gives him the green light to do so, he'll make a deal if possible.

I agree that Willie can overcome his lack of success against lefties. Based on his minor league career that and his SB problems should be temporary issues. However, this talk of Willie at 3B or SS doesn't make sense. He doesn't have the arm to play either position.
-
It's ironic, but the perfect guy to be our utility IF ..... a veteran that can play 2B, SS and 3B and hits LH ....is Jose Valentin.
-
KW will have a little time to either make a deal or make the decision. I'm thinking a Harris trade may be in the works.
-
I still don't see Larkin as a viable fit to this team.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) while he wont be as good as he was in Japan i think he can do better than what Willie did last year and provide more stolen bases and HR's Personally. I don't give a s*** about SB's and HR's. If he can be an effective number 2 hitter and play solid defense, he's well worth the investment.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) KW earns a C- so far from me which has dropped from the B+ he had last week. Why you may be asking? Because he has yet to close the bigger hole on this team. He needs to trade Willie to make room for a middle infielder or he needs to send Willie down to AAA and sign a middle infielder. Either way until one of those happens I just can't give him a higher grade... He couldn't afford to move Willie until the Iguchi deal was done. That also is true of the utility infielder addition. KW needed to know what his roster was going to look likew before filling in the missing pieces.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) I still think Castillo will be traded The Marlins GM is a lot like KW and operates under a strict budget as well You are probably correct. I just don't think he'll be headed to the Sox at this point.

QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) It's not. I guarandamntee it. It's myth building. Its building Zarqawi up to the same level as Bin Laden... remember all those stories you heard about Bin Laden being miraculously untouchable in Afghanistan as a "freedom fighter?" Its the same crap designed to make him a living legend among the assholes that would support him. Damn. I had to do a double take. I could have sworn that was a Nuke post.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) Harris will probably be traded for a prospect or two. There aren't a lot of open roster spots now, besides UTL IFer. The bullpen has a lot of competition as well. The Sox biggest need is depth at the AAA, AA levels for a number of positions [C, 3B, SS, SP], which a trade of willie could possibly fill. Don't be too disheartened because your Castillo idea was based on sound thinking. And I agree, I believe Willie will be traded for some AAA,AA depth.

QUOTE(BlizzardOfOzzie @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) Whatever, dude. You're just bitter and pissed because the Bears Still Suck. Not Mariotti's problem and sure as f*** no problem for me. I've been enjoying things since 1992, much like you enjoyed the 1980's. Deal with it. I put up with fatass William Perry running over George Cumby in 1985 and all that other bulls***, but who cares? As long as McCaskey owns the Bears, I've got nothing to worry about. f*** 'em. Mariotti RULES. It amuses me to think that every day people turn their first back page of the Sun-Times over to see that picture of Mariotti looking all stuck-up with a smirk on his face to tell you HOW IT IS once again. Cracks me up. The Sox are the only Chicago team I'll ever root for, so I could give a hot mad fat flying f*** what he says about the other teams in "Bear Country". His Sox bashing doesn't influence me and his columns shouldn't dictate your mood either. He does his job and does it well. If you don't like it, don't f***ing read it. My rant of the week. :headshake So you're the guy. I knew there had to be one mariotti fan. See there folks, you can believe in myths. If there is a mariotti fan, then can Sasquatch. Nessie and Champ be far behind?

I dun get no respect. I should be on ze cover. -
On the level of just evaluating Willie Harris, with no comparison's to Iguchi or anyone else, I'm basically a fence-sitter. I think Willie showed enough fopr a young player to warrant another shot, but also showed a lack of consistency and baseball instinct that makes him a huge ? . What I'm picking up on is a lack of faith in Harris by the Sox decision makers. That raises a red flag with me. The fact that they stayed in these Iguchi negotiations for a month tells me plenty. The White Sox do not believe Harris is the answer at 2B. So be it. Move on.

Well. ink has not met paper yet. But, it sounds promising.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) The WWII flag symbolizes the warrior mentality. It is a battle flag. So is the Stars and Bars ... but a lot of people (I'm not one of them) find it offensive.

Madden was first choice for MNF skit

I'm sorry. But I can't ever imagine the thought of John Madden in a towel just popping into my head. :puke -

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) I thought about it, since that is a Samurai helmet in the background. Thank you. I don't usually make em for myself. In fact, I could still hand this one off in the future. That's cool. But you need to get rid of that WWII era Japanese flag.

That statement says a a lot about what the Sox thought about Harris.
