This is just a writer that needed to create some column-inches of text. It's not worth the paper, or cyber space, it's printed on. Let's move on.

That translator is politically incorrect. It keeps calling the other Sox the "Lead" Socks.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) I looked up the dates.... But I did know in the back of my head that Capone was dead before Minnie came around, but I thought it was more like 10 years apart. But I have no idea what his kids were named... You also have to consider that Capone spent a few years in Alcatraz at the end of his life.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 07:58 AM) Mark doesn't scare me nearly as much as an El Duque or Contreras. Mark has no "bad" pitches for his arm. He doesn't throw a heavy slider or screwball or heavy curveball that torques wrist shoulder and/or elbows. Exactly. We've recently argued (not you and I, but Soxtalk) whether or not Schoenewiecz could handle the 5th starters role if someone broke down and he was not durable enough or too frail or whatever. Now Buehrle's a risk because he has pitched a lot of innings.

Without getting to graphic here, but if I walked into a men's restroom and saw what left behind after the coke snorting attempt, I think I'd be getting the hell out of there.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) I found this gem: soxfeelgood's blog That's as good of a reason as any to look into what your kid is doing on the internet. Thanks for sharing that.

Dusty who? *yawn*

We all know Rowand can play a damn decent CF. Just because Pods may be faster doesn't mean he'll cover more ground than Rowand. You have to consider positioning, reads, jump, etc. Unless Pods just proves to be a superior CF in ST, which I highly doubt, I think we'll see ARow roaming CF at the Cell.

Ok, Buehrle has piled up some innings. So, what is more risky? A guy who has broken down like Kerry Wood or one that has proven he eat up some innings like Buehrle? There can be a case made both ways, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty .... We don't know what's going to happen. It's all part of the game.

QUOTE(hi8is @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) ive know cantu my entire life, hes a hard nosed talented ball player that CAN hit... however, he has had 5 count em, 5 surgerys (1 on his left shoulder and 4 on his right shoulder)... he's not a hitting machine but the guy knows what he is doing.... why not take it as him complamenting bmac instead of cantu sayin "i cant hit" because thats what it was intended as. im just tellin you all what i was told, dont hang the messenger.... bow to him and kiss his feet after giving him a nice foot massage.... on the other hand, i dont think id want any of you touching my feet... I know my comment wasn't a slam at you or your friend. I was merely trying to put some perspective on things. I apologize if it came across in the wrong way.

QUOTE(Man Of Steel @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Yeah I didnt mean it to sound like we are the most racist place in the world I was just saying that it came off that everyone was offended by what he said like racism in the south is unheard of.. My bad if i caused confusion The reason it was offensive is because it was prejudicial. The remark insinuated that all southerners were racists. Prejudice is prejudice no matter the target. And Flash ... Inflammatory remarks in an attempt at humor is on the same level as telling a blatantly racist joke.

This guy called the Lee trade "barely even". I guess KW should have held out for "hugely even". "Barely even" is a disgrace! :rolly

Can a AA hitter flirting with the Mendoza line differentiate between average stuff and dominating stuff?

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) No, no...and NO. We signed Marte to a 3 year deal for ONLY 4.5M + options for 2007 and 2008. You aren't going to find another pitcher like Marte who will take a contract like that, EVER. That's VERY cheap for someone of Marte's quality, and I say we keep him rather than trading him away and weakening our pitching staff. -y2 This is the best argument I've seen to support the "don't trade Marte" point of view. Still, Castillo brings so much to this team that we lack. I don't know if it would be possible to get him without giving up Marte. Honestly, to me this is a very tough call, but I still would have to lean toward getting Castillo if we can.

This has been a test of the Emergency Who's Right Network. In the event someone is actually right, you'll be intructed to turn to a station for pertinient information. Repeating. This has only been a test. We now take you back to your normal bickering.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) Look at the numbers. All Castillo really adds is more consistent D & a better stick against LH than Harris. Against RH's they are pretty much even. Our big disagreement is not really whether Castillo would help the Sox. It's no question he's an upgrade over Harris. However; you value our so-called pen upgrade much more than I do. I think with Hermanson & Vizc it's hit or miss. They could be good or they could get rocked. Vizc looks to be more shaky than Herm. The separation between these two & Marte is big. Much bigger than betw Castillo vs Harris. It seems to me the Castillo trade will be an option for the CWS for some time this year. I'd rather wait & see how the new pen fares before giving up Marte. Off course, you are going under the assumption that Marte will revert to his '03 form. It could be a case of the AL hitters getting familiar with Marte and '04 could be the beginning of a slide from very good to uninspiring mediocrity.

There should be an "it doesn't matter" option to this poll. That would be my vote.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) 72 appearances. Not 60. More than any other RP on the CWS including Shingo. Put it this way. And you are once again illustrating my point. If Castillo has 8 bad games the rest of the lineup may be able to over come that. It doesn't have the same effect that as to when an RP has 3 bad games. The other 3 guys: Politte, Hermanson, & Vizc had double digit bad games. About 4-5 times as many as Marte. Losing Marte & replacing him w a guy worse than those 3 will mean less wins for the CWS. It doesn't matter what Castillo does because it's many times harder for a team to come back when a RP blows it in the 8th or 9th. It's why setup & closer maybe the two most important roles on any team. The only thing that is being illustrated here is that you value an effective setup man over an all star caliber 2nd baseman. I disagree. Considering the Sox have reinforced the bullpen, and the fact that Castillo would fill our needs of a quality 2B and a quality number 2 hitter, I disagree even more. But that's the beauty of this board. We can have some fun talking about all this stuff.
-
I can't believe we are still arguing about a number 5 pitcher that's 25 years old with double digit wins and 200 innings pitched. If we had that kind of production from our number 5 slot in '03 and '04 we'd be two time defending AL Central champs. And really, it doesn't matter whether JG or JC is in the 5 slot, the pecking order of the rotatiom will shake out over the course of the season. However, I'd bet on Garland over Contreras at this point. I'm speaking figuratively ... I will not accept any bets, so don't even go there.

That is definitely not one of Robin's best moments.
