  1. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Our BP is a questionable strength. They are NL transplants after all. Those are always hit or miss. I didn't know Castillo was signed through 2006. I saw the 4.5M for 2005 & his yrs & figured he wasn't. How much is he due to earn in 2006? Sure our bullpen is of questionable strength. All bullpens are. Our's happen to look to be an area of strength, and for a guy like Castillo, I think it's worth the gamble.
  2. I believe Ozzie will listen to Cooper as far as the pitching staff goes. That's Cooper's area of expertise, not Ozzie's. To back that up, I refer to Ozzie's remark that he will "talk to his coaches" in regards to who will play left or center. i don't think Ozzie is stupid enough to think he's the smartest there is in all areas of the game. As for Rowand hitting 2 or 6 ... I think this is just what the thinking is at this point. Let's let them go through spring training, and let them put the pieces of the puzzle into what they think is the right place before we start condemning anyone.
  3. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) What are you talking about? Castillo is signed through 2006 and has an option at 5.25 million for 2007. Why in the world do some want to see or wouldn't mind seeing Damaso being traded? I'm not unappreciative of what Marte can mean to this team, but .... I believe a guy like Castillo can mean so much more in the long run. Our bullpen is now a strength, and we can fill the 2nd base and 2nd slot in the order with a very quality player in Castillo. That's why, in the right deal, I wouldn't mind if we traded Marte.
  4. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) As far as Cameron is concerned he had an operation maybe a month or two ago, he's not expected to be ready for the start of the season. I believe it was on his wrist, so I'm not sure how many teams would be willing to deal for him at this point. Correct. Cameron might not bge ready to start the season.
  5. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) WOW, now that the first I heard of any of that..IMO should look to deal Piazza first a 36 year old C.. who was never able to throw runners out when he was younger. This IMO is a bad Idea.. The Mets still have not leanred from their msitakes have they? They are still paying for Vaughn salary and now they want to take on Sosa.. that is just plain stupid IMO. I'll agree. Any team that takes on Sosa is nucking futs. As for Piazza, the Mets are stuck with him unless someone will take him as a DH.
  6. Atlanta opened up a good ol' fashioned can ... well, 55 gallon drum ... of "whoop ass" on the Rams.
  7. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) I don't see it esp with the new riods policy, I think they OF is set RF Cameron CF Beltran LF Floyd And if the Mets sign, Delgado where does Piazza play? I thought they wanted to convert him to a 1b. Piazza is going to catch, from what I understand. Cameron apparently has decided he doesn't want to play RF, hence their discussions with Oakland of a Cameron for Eric Byrnes deal. The Mets have been also looking to dump Floyd's salary. Minaya and Sosa have a history. I could very well see this happening.
  8. QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 08:02 AM) It's hard to film parody and sarcastic humor correctly and make any money. Mel Brooks is about the only one who can pull it off. "Somebody's gotta go back and get a s***load of dimes" Mel Brroks = comedic genious.
  9. You know what people? ... The American people picked the person they thought was the best man for the job of POTUS. Get over it.
  10. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) I really do hope Crede gets his swing together, he has done great in the minors, came up had a great end of year in 02, then it is like he wanted to be to much of a slugger, than a contact hitter. That's part of the learning process these kids have to go through. Too many want to dump a guy after a bad month.
  11. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) I think the Sox can work this out. I really think Frank feels that he has it pretty good here, and might re-negotiate his contract a bit. I agree. I think the relationship between JR and Frank will keep him in Chicago.
  12. I think Crede's gonna hit. He's got the talent, as that was displyed in the minors, and he's finally realized he needed to change things and he's working on getting that accomplished. I'd be surprised if Crede hit less than .265
  13. As much as I'd like to see Castillo on the Sox. In order for that to happen, there could be some things occur that most Sox fans would find, uh, distasteful. 1. The Sox getting Castiilo is basically contingent on the Fish signing Delgado. 2. If the Fish sign him, the Mets don't. 3. The Mets could then step up and trade for Sosa. 4. With part of Sosa's payroll of the books, the Cubs sign Ordonez. Still, if acquiring Castillo leads to all that, so be it. It doesn't really matter what happens across town.
  14. QUOTE(backman @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) how can you compare a pitcher to a hitter (buherle to frank) as of right now (this year) best everyday player is Paulie best sp is burhele till like someone said "freddy hasnt proved himself in a sox uni" best closer shingo! GM's have to compare pitchers to hitters all the time.
  15. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) when did mays not have a giants uniform on? When he was with the Mets ... at about age 52.
  16. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) I know. But i just wanted to get my point straight I got it.
  17. Frank Thomas Appeciation Year. Not a bad idea.
  18. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) God Man Sheesh!! Ahem. Ichiro was a hell of a ball player in Japan. Iguchi wasn't very good untill last year in Japan. If anybody reads what i say well. I've if they sign him and he's an impact player great. BUT MANY HERE are banking on it. I don't He could turn out to be Ichiro or Similar or Shinjo or Kazao Matzui. I'm not gonna say our season is down the drain if we don't sign this guy. Yes he's unproven, that's what i meant and if he chokes well... So read into what i say... :headshake Hey Josh. That post was so very tongue-in-cheek. Just having a little fun.
  19. I believe him on the passion remark. He's also been aggresive and worked hard at his job.
  20. So Kenny, what really happened back when we the chance to sign Ichiro? "I was all for it. In fact it was the definitive example of a 'done deal' that didn't happen. What happened was that I got this email asking 'Just what has this guy proven in the majors?' from a guy named Josh in Puerto Rico. And well, it got me to thinking about it and ...... "
  21. QUOTE(LDF @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) so what is a "trigger" i never heard of this It's a movement you make, every time, to begin your swing process. My kid had a problem with getting his swing started from a stop podition, so he ended up pointing his bat at the pitcher till the pitcher started his motion. That way the bat was already moving and it worked well for him until he decided he didn't need it. EDIT: I thought of another example. If you've ever seen the commercial for those Tom Emanski instructional videos, all the kids will cock, or tense up, their knee on the backside of their stance. Right knee for right handed hitter.
  22. I believe if AJ pulled something like that, JR would suspend him, or he'd be moved from the organization before he finished his post game shower. As for Jiminez, we all knew he had some talent but he was dumber than a box of rocks on the ballfield.
  23. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) Not sure that his career is on the line. Just like w/ Jimenez, jerks w/ talent find jobs. Ok... I see your point. Let's say that AJ knows his ability to make the big bucks is on the line. He's said that he wants to get this behind him so it doesn't hinder his career. If you think about, it probably has cost him a few million in 2005. His ability is worth $5 million per, at least. He wasn't getting any interest due to the reputation. So, in a way, his career is on the line. At least the amount if potential future income is on the line.
