  1. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) how so? How many Major league at-bats do you have?
  2. Magglio totally screwed up when he turned down the Sox offer. Now, he has to save face, so to speak. He's painting himself into a corner here. Magglio is going to have to swallow some pride and hope he doesn't choke on it.
  3. QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) Thats not racist, black people speak english too. Yes, it was racist.
  4. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) It was Baines. I remember watching the flashback vid. The place went nuts. It was against Texas Hmmmm ... I thought it was Seattle. Oh well.
  5. I know Walker's a lefty. I know the Cubs are worried about their bullpen. But this is matter that goes beyond that kind of thing. JimH spoke very well for me (thank you). It's trading a dimished value player for a dimished value pitcher, due to things other than their skill levels. It was just an idea and based purely on what was said above. I wouldn't even go so far as to classify it as speculation. Just a thought.
  6. I don't suppose anybody would take into consideration the opinion of the state of SC? Nah ... bunch of damn redneck hillibillies don't have a clue. (Dripping with sarcasm)
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) And don't Voodoo cultures have a mix that reders the body into a deathlike state, or is that an urban legend? Only in New Orleans.
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) How would we pay for year round school? In Texas, when it's 104 outside, do you expect the schools to just open windows? Would you ask teachers to work the additional time without an increase in pay? Would each grade level last one year? With an extra 2-3 months per year, we would add 24-36 months of instruction, what else would you teach in the extra 2 1/2 to 3 1/3 "traditional school years" of instruction? Instead of the current 12 years of education, the equivelent would be 15 to 16 years of instruction. Damn liberal teacher! ... Joking! .... I would be all for paying teachers more for their time and even more to get more of our quality individuals to consider teaching as a viable career option. We talk all the time about the importance of education, yet we pay our teachers s***. BUT!!!!! ... I think they should have to earn their money. Tenure should be a thing of the past. Results should translate into salary and job security. Nothing more, nothing less.
  9. This reminds me of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Premature Burial". The man was the master of the macarbre (sp?). Actually, this has not been a rare occurance throughout history. In fact, they used to design coffins with a rope leading to a bell in case the person ... well, you get the idea.

    Yankee or Dixie...

    67% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score! And I'm damn proud of it, y'all!!!!
  11. This thread should be pinned till late March.
  12. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) Anybody reading this like I am?? Fukuoka Fuk-u-oka You're catching on, Oka.
  13. I really think the Sox are so disenfrachised with Harris that he'll be gone before ST. The Cubs are also unhappy with the Farns ... so that may be doable. (nod to Steff) ..... They'd have to negotiate a way to even it out ... but it may be a case to where both teams take a chance that "a fresh start" helps both players.
  14. Cruz scored it on a sac fly. Not sure who hit it, but Harold sounds right.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) I was trying to get a feel for this team by comparing them to another of the Sox teams that I have seen. I came to the conclusion that this team really resembles the 1983 team in a lot of ways. They have speed at the top of the order, thump in the middle of the order, great range on defense, and an entirely solid pitching staff. Opinions? Any other better teams to compare these guys too? The early 80's is about as far back as I remember well. A 99 win team? Cool!!
  16. QUOTE(quickman @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 08:34 AM) There are several reasons why the sox will not pursue. Crede, is cheap and still has time , at least two years to prove he is capable. The second is Josh Fields whom we drafted first and is on the fast track. If he is any good he should be ready in three years when Crede will start making more money. The Third is the bidding process. We will not pay money just to negotiate, then pay more money to sign. Those are the reasons. Qwerty is right. Exactly. This ain't happening.
  17. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 12:20 AM) Can you say whore? I protest that catagorization of her, and the dime-store hooker remark above yours. That is totally uncalled for. She never said a word about charging the Mets for her services.
  18. QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 02:43 AM) I think sadler was a top prospect with Boston a few years back, but hasn't amounted to anything. I hope he isn't our back up SS either. I would rather take my chances with............well anyone. He's got a solid .202 career BA.
  19. Wow. Talk about "under the radar". Hopefully, this guy is not our backup SS.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) The ONLY way that happens is if Frank flops, and Carl goes back to his all-star ways. If Carl has a good year, I can see them picking up that option. They can then trade him. After a solid '05, there'd be a market for him.
  21. I loved the part of that article that said Chicago is the location of home stadium of the team
  22. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) here you go -- That cleared things up. Thanks.
  23. Honestly guys, all this talk about Willie Harris should cease and desist. he just does not have the arm to play there. As an emergency fill in until someone can be called up from the minors, maybe. But nothing more than that.
  24. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Garland will never be non-tendered by the Sox. Ever. You can never ignore the story that surrounds him. The trade & all that. Garland is good for a near 500 season every year. That's is his bad. We have endured his bad for 3 yrs in a row. It doesn't get any worse than this with Garland. We are waiting to experience his good. I, for the life of me, cannot even imagine the idea of non-tendering Garland even entering someone's minds. It's nucking futs.
