  1. QUOTE(LDF @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 02:12 AM) and if some of the question marks concerning pitching turns to be pretenders, then it is going to be a long summer. duke, cont and garland. well it is not fair for me to include garland there, he will give us 10-14 wins and 175+ innings.. i hope he does better being in the #5 hole. but the other 2???? You have a valid concern here, but our 3-4-5 slots have a lot less degree of being question marks than last year. Or better yet, they have a better chance of not being a disappointment.
  2. One of these days, someone like Moss is going to go too far and he'll be lucky to get off the field alive. Seriously. Didn't the Pacers/Piston incident teach these idiots anything?
  3. And maybe there wasn't an acceptable combo of players/salaries available. As for Lee's falling out of favor, I think it goes way beyond his approach at the plate. Like him "hating everyone" and failing to move in the outfield when directed to by the coaching staff.
  4. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/teams/page/CHW Jan 2, 2005 --OF Aaron Rowand and the Sox are still talking about getting a multiyear deal done before arbitration this spring. Both sides have indicated that they are close, but the final numbers are yet to be agreed on. I hope KW wasn't looking at swapping Rowand for Byrnes. I cannot imagine KW even considering that scenario.
  5. How the hell could they miss on Moises Alou?

    Would you be pissed?

If their targetted clientelle is "Jr. Republicans" then I can see why they'd want their employees to reflect that. But your buddy sounds a bit like George Steinbrenner to me.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 11:04 PM) First off consider your source for that one. Second, I think the main reason Kenny traded carlos over koney was that carlos fell out of favor with Ozzie. I think Carlos fell out of favor with KW.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) Ya, sorry about that, just making my point but I guess I've done that enough already :banghead What I was saying is that I'm OD-ing on stats.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) Stats aren't everything. The word "overkill" seems to come to mind.
  11. I really doubt that Rowand goes anywhere. He's young, cheap and good. But damn, if they do move Rowand they better get some real value for him.
  12. QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) Great..he can kill a harmless animal. That sure will help us win the division! :headshake Harmless? You ever see what one of those things can do to a vehicle?
  13. Johnson wanted to go to New York. New Yorkers can be pushy. New York media takes pushiness to a new level. Enjoy NY, Johnson.
  14. Considering that they (the media) are saying that we are seeing the last of the 300 game winners, 260 might be quite impressive by the time Buehrle is eligible.
  15. He would definitely fit win with the alphabet soup aspect of players acquired by the Sox this winter.
  16. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) The thing we have to ask now is what could we have gotten for Lee. That's the only way to measure this trade. I know many of you are chalking it up to a salary purge but many teams wanted Lee. Which means you can still get your purge & decent talent in return. I think KW got fleeced on this one. He got average players at best in Pods & Vizcaino for a budding superstar in Lee. Actually, I feel there is only one way to measure a trade: Are the White Sox a better team after making this deal, or were they better before the deal? I think it's a no-brainer that we are all around a much better team after replacing Lee with Podsednik,Vizcaino,Hernandez and Peirzynski. This kid they just got probably makes no difference whatsoever. If he does turn into an asset in form, so much the better.
  17. Podsednik, Vizcaino, Hernandez and Pierzynski. I'm not going to be pissed if the PTNL isn't stud. This deal has worked out great.
  18. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) Last time I check Omar is a part of the Giants..not the Sox. KW failed, then to make Uribe feel better inked him to a 3 year deal for a good 2004 I was talking about Jose's 2000 numbers then we inked him to a bigger deal only for it to blow up in our faces. If the Giants want to overpay, for an extended period of time, for an old SS. Let them. Signing Uribe was a much smarter move than what SF did with OV. But then, Cabrera's a GOD!
  19. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) I was checking out the SF board on ESPN and they are saying for the Sox to get Ray Ray they would want Rowand in any deal...Me thinks they need to get off that crack pipe.... That ain't happenin'.
  20. QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 08:48 AM) I'm still wondering how an OBP of .343 is "failing". Is it great? No, of course not. But is it a failure to have a .343 OBP in your first real shot at the major league level? I say absolutely not. Add to that solid defense at 2B along with 19 stolen bases, and I'd say it was rather successful. His power numbers were invisible, but that wasn't a surprise to anybody. Why so down on him? And provide reasons and explanations - not just baseless and floating statements. I could see us trading away our best reliever (no offense to Shingo, I love the guy - but he's got to do it again for me to buy him as the real deal) if we were going to get something great like a package deal for a #1 or #2 starter, but to upgrade a position that's really not that weak for us? I just wouldn't see the logic in that at all. And just for fun I checked out Luis Castillo's stats to make sure I wasn't rushing to judgement, and I'm really not. If the Sox were to trade Marte for Castillo, we'd be picking up some salary (not sure how much Marte is due to make in the next couple of years, but it's not as much as Castillo), weakening our bullpen considerably, all while upgrading slightly. Breakdown of Willie Harris vs. Luis Castillo from 2004... Batting Average: WH .262 LC .291 --- advantage LC by 29 points OBP: WH .343 LC .373 --- advantage LC by 30 points Steals: WH 19 LC 21 --- advantage Willie (he had 155 less AB than Luis) Fielding Percentage (at 2B): WH .990 LC .991 Soooo, we'd be giving up our best reliever (who's also one of the top 3 or 4 lefties out of the pen in the AL, if not all of baseball) and a couple million in salary (at least) to gain 30 batting average points? Is that worth it? To me, it's not. Speed and defense are a wash IMO. Especially when Willie *should* improve upon those numbers with more regular playing time. Willie has a lot of upside, while Luis Castillo's best years are behind him IMO. Am I the only one who doesn't hate Willie Harris? Ha ha. The difference in those BA and OBP numbers between an everyday 2b as opposed to a part timer are quite significant.
  21. I can't believe KW is getting critcized for inking Uribe to that deal. That could prove to be a major bargain.
  22. ESPN's bottom line is reporting that Shawn Green has waived his no-trade clause and has accepted a three year deal.
  23. Manning seems to be a decent guy, and he's a damn good QB. I can't understand any hatred toward him. I mean hell, Brett Farve has kicked the Bears asses for years, but I think he's one of the greatest of all time and I respect him. Manning has put together a season for the ages so far. He's not an arrogant SOB, so I don't have any problems with him.
  24. If any you guys who are defending that douche bag Randy Moss has ever complained about about SamMe Sosa .... your credability just flew out the window. Sosa is the lesser of two evils. Randy Moss is scum.
