  1. I'm going to answer the question at the end of the quoted post. I'm going to start with a little history lesson. When you first came on to the board, the two of us started bickering after you became verbally abusive. After a while, I backed off, offered you a proverbial peace pipe and things were cool. However, since that time, I have basically just watched you and your methods of "discussing" things on here without engaging you. I've occasionally put my two cents in, but for the most part I have just read what you have to say and how you go about saying it. So, let me describe what I have seen. First off, you think you are smarter than anyone here or in the Sox front office. You're not. Not even close. You are convincing no one of your inflated intellect but yourself. There are some people in here who have proven over a period of time that they are reasonable, intelligent baseball fans. You are neither. You come across as obnoxious, overbearing and beligerent. You are rude and crude. You have insulted many respected Soxtalk posters and done so in such a manner that most people in here cannot wait for your bannishment or the ignore feature, whichever comes first. As far as I am concerned, Soxtalk was a much more pleasant place before you joined and will be so after you are gone. Which I'm sure will not be long unless you change your approach.
  2. Or lye, as the case may be. :rolly
  3. Was it me? I don't recall. It's a good line, whoever said it.
  4. To be honest, the Expos do have a history of developing talent for other teams. However, it certainly is not a guarantee that a former Expo will blossom into an all star.
  5. I believe Billy Beane has the right attitude. Closers are basically disposable. I don't think a smart team should ever pay big bucks for a FA closer. I'm more along the line of developing your own, then trade them away or let them walk before the start looking for big bucks. Find a kid in your system with a live fastball and one other decent pitch and groom him as a closer. Then start the process with someone else at a lower level. Don't draft someone for that purpose either. Too many good closers are failed starters.
  6. The Giants are in a unique situation. They are running out of time with Barry Bonds in the lineup. I'm sure they are trying to do what it takes to get the job done. Think about it. They've had, arguably, the two greatest players in the history of the game in Mays and Bonds. Yet, the SF Giants have never won the World Series. I think these signings are out of desperation and they'll willingly suffer the consequences later.
  7. Best of luck to Kelly. He seemed to be very fan friendly and was an effective pitcher when used in the proper role.
  8. I don't care for the trade part of this rumor. I could see it if it went like so: Sox get: Castillo Podsednik Marlins get Lee Brewers get Marlins prospect (decent) Sox prospect (lesser) I'm with Qwerty that Podsednik is not all that good. He isn't worth Anderson straight up. I also feel Castillo is not worth Lee straight up.
  9. Chris Singleton hit .300 for us one season too.
  10. Jim. This seems to happen way too often on here. You post something you heard and ask if anyone else has heard it. The next thing you know, someone is calling you out and questioning your integrity. It's Bulls*** that this happens. How else are we going to have anything to discuss if every time someone posts a rumor, that it has to be 100% accurate and immediately verifiable? To anyone that question Jim's integrity ..... :fyou What Jim posted is exactly what I hope to see here on the board. Rarely are things exactly as they first appear in a rumor, but most of the time, there is some fire causing that smoke.
  11. Now that sounds like a helluva plan.
  12. His point was that he completely debunked your point about this great run we are having as Sox fans. I love the Sox. Always have and always will. But this ownership group is NOT committed to winning a world championship. No way, no how. The GM is trying. The manager is trying. The players are trying. But the ownership is not. If it was, we'd have something besides 25 years worth of failure.
  13. Bummer. I hope Bull stays with the organization.
  14. I'll tell ya ... Give a guy a little "power" and look at what happens. :rolly
  15. AFTER he was traded, the injury was probably closer to being healed. Time is a factor in those things.
  16. I think allow SS to walk without any compensation would be a mistake. They should offer arbitration and take their chances, if need be. He should be a solid pitcher somewhere on the Sox staff, in whatever role he fits. He's also a tradeable commodity that could make the difference in whether a deal gets done or not.
  17. He finished injured, which was why he was ineffective.
  18. CK, I'm behind you 100%. I may not agree with some individual points you make, but I certainly am on your general outlook and reasons for your discontent. Twenty-five years of mediocrity kind of points to the chance that this just might be a trend.
  19. Yes, but if I remember correctly, you've been singing Cabrera's praises. If I have confused with someone else, I apologize. But saying Polanco is not a fit because he's not a lead off hitter, and saying Cabrera is in spite of the fact he's not a lead off hitter just doesn't balance.
  20. Considering the Sox are spending $20 million plus on the top four of their rotation, I'd say $1 million on a catcher that can bring the most from them is well worth it ... to hell with the offensive production from the position.

    Torture by proxy

Don't you get it? He's not protesting for the rights of terrorists. He's speaking out for the rights of Joe Blow of Canton, OH. You see, once we (US Gov't) starts making exceptions to the rule of the Constituition, then the floodgates are opened. Citizen Blow, mentioned above, happens to be an extreme left wing liberal citizen. The Bushies could then conclude that he is trying to undermine the government and just simply say that he's a terrorist. Then he's detained for questioning in an undisclosed location and denied access to an attorney. He's also denied a speedy trial because he hasn't been charged with a crime. Yet, he's indefinitely incarcerated. It doesn't really take a large stretch of the imagination to go from where we are now to the above scenario.
  23. Whether or not a catcher is the top priority is a moot point. If they perceive it as an issue that needs to be addressed, they'll address it along with any other issues. Then, it's just a matter of what opportunities present themselves at any particular time. If the opportunity comes along, they'll jump on it. Just because it's not the highest priority, doesn't mean they'd pass on it if they got the chance.
