  1. I've been a larger than average supporter of KW for a few years. I will say this much. KW is responsible for the fact we haven't had a 5th starter for two years. He's also responsible for the fact that we have an unbalanced line up for 4 years. Too many RH sluggers. Not enough lefties and not enough table setters.
  2. Happy Birthday Jose Contreras. I hope you pitch better than any of us think you will.
  3. If it comes across as prejudiced, then so be it. As a rule, they have effectively spit on Americans. There are exceptions to the rule, of course. But, the next time some foreign army marches on Paris, they can kiss my American ass before one US serviceman sets foot on French soil.
  4. Officer, I was fliiping through this booklet here, looking for the right card to show to that moron that was risking my safety by talking on his cell phone. Next thing I know, the car in front of me had slammed on its brakes and I didn't have time to react. :headshake
  5. I'll answer your question. Not this guy. I've long felt that France has held the US and Americans generally in contempt. They have long resented the fact that the English speaking peoples of the world are the leaders of the free world. I've never had a desire to go to France since they've always looked down their collective noses at us as "ugly Americans". Germany, Italy, Ireland and England are all places I'd love to go, but again, f*** France. That being said, I never considered boycotting their products before 9/11 and the UN Iraq BS. That, however, has changed.

Sometimes, sarcasm is so obvious that green type is not needed.

    hey santo=dorf

    Interesting thread! :rolly
  8. Yes he did. And I have to give him kudos for making that choice. He put the goals of the team above personal records. As much as he is hated by Bear fans, you have to give the guy his due. He's a champion and one the greatest QB's ever.
  9. Didn't the Rose Bowl get to choose between Cal, Utah and Texas? That's the way I understood it.
  10. They said when Hutch first came to the Bears, he was throwing the ball like a pitcher, not a QB. They had to break his mechanics down and rebuild them. That kinda stuff takes time. Today, he looked damn good. A month ago, he might have made Quinn look great in comparison. I think we actually have a pretty good coaching staff now. The Wanne/Jauron eras were horrid. I'd say give Smith and his staff the benefit of the doubt on this call.
  11. As happy as I am to see the Bears have someone that actually resembles a real quarterback, I am THRILLED to see Urlacher back out there. This guy has been a stud this year. Look at the stats from the games BU has played vs the games he's been out. The numbers are amazing. His impact on a game is just awesome.
  12. The thing I don't understand about Boras' approach with Ordonez is that he is effectively locking the White Sox out as a possible player in the Ordonez equation. By letting the Sox examine him, they might get back in the game. They did, after all, affer him a pretty decent contract last summer. In fact, I doubt Ordonez gets another offer that is equal or greater than what the Sox offered. So what advantage, other than the lack of an arbitration offer from the Sox, does Boras see to eliminating a possible bidder? Having said that, it makes me believe there is more to Magglio's injury than Boras is letting out.

    Alex Escobar

I really wasn't aware of what Escobar's injury was, but if he was trying to hit with a broken bone in his foot, I can understand a Mendoza-like batting average. That's your foundation and your legs and hips generate the power. Look at how Frank Thomas struggled while he was waiting for Ordonez to come off the DL. I'm glad KW snapped this guy up. It could prove to be a very astute move.
  14. You can't blame the Sox for "flying under the radar" after the Vizquel deal. If that is what they are actually doing. It doesn't bother me that things appear to quiet from the Sox front office, as long as it's only an appearance.
  15. Neither Black Jack or maggs deserve that honor. That should be reserved for the best of the best. Number 35 qualifies.
  16. That's why a playoff system would be so much better. If L'ville could actually do it on the field of play, they would earn it and there'd be no reason to argue about "Who's number one?"
  17. "Move on." Interesting choice of words there, Killa.
  18. I was listening to Dan Patrick on ESPN radio this morning and 2 interesting things happened. First, Patrick was accused of being a racist because he criticized Bonds' involvement in this thing. He shot that down pretty emphatically by saying that he didn't receive one email from anyone accusing him of being anti-Italian for ripping Giambi the day before. Second, Mark Grace was a guest and he stated that he had lots of teammates over the years that used steroids. He'd never out them, but they were there. I wonder who he was talking about.
  19. I'm sure the have news staories about anti-France sentiment in the USA. You know, type where they are wondering why there are very few American tourists over there, or we aren't buying Michelin tires ... or French wine, cheese or perfume. There is something to be said for the power of the almighty dollar!
  20. Let's see ... Bush goes to Iraq over Thanksgiving 2003 ... and quite frequently visit hospitalized wounded soldiers. You know ... the ones that can really appreciate a presidential visit.
  21. To answer your question, Magglio is more valuable as a totally free agent than one that will cost a draft choice or two. Boras can wait till Dec 8th, let any interested team check him out and sign him free and clear.
  22. I live about 15 minutes from where that game will be played. My kids went to HS there.
  23. Speaking of guys like Dye ... guys that were once productive but due to injuries have not produced as much the last couple of years .... There is a guy out there that we could probably get for very little. The Mets are wanting to get out of Cliff Floyd's contract and I believe they'd pay a significant portion of it. He's got 2 years and $13 Million left on his contract. This is guy who if he can be healthy, could possibly have a 2004 J. D. Drew type year in '05. Even at last years numbers, he wasn't that far off Carlos Lee's numbers and if we can get the Mets to pick 4 or 5 million of that remaining contract, he could be a real bargain. I'm sure he'd love to put together a couple of good years to re-establish himself as a quality player before his contract is up. He's 31 so it's not like he'll get old before his contract expires. Keep in mind, I'm looking for a bargain here. Floyd would not be my first choice but it's an idea worth exploring. Ok. I've said my piece, so go ahead and rip me to shreds. Edit: I withdraw my comparison to Carlos. I misread a couple of numbers on his stats.
