Back to the hats. One thing that I happen to like about George Steinbrenner is that he makes the players respect the uniform. No facial hair, and all that. No one player is bigger than team. A uniform is designed to achieve a certain look, and that should be what the players bring onto the field. This is the damn Major Leagues!

I totally agree with this: There are times when a sac bunt is in order, but I think they are few and far between. You can still be aggresive and move runners, but do it without giving up outs. As far as Ozzie not squeezing with Rowand at the plate, I would give him the benefit of the doubt on that simply because ARow has been hitting the ball on the screws lately. He had a hot hitter in the box, let him hit.

I noticed the lack off quotes as I read this piece, also. This is pure speculation on what Maggs feels and thinks. With no quotes to back it up, this is worthless.

A few points: 1. I don't think the Sox of the past 2 weeks are the "real" Sox. I'll take a 2 month period of baseball over a 2 week period. This is just one of those bad periods a team goes through. 2. Jerry Manuel was not a poor manager. He did a decent job while he was here. It was, however, time for a change. In fact, it was beyond time for that. I'm thinking May 2003 would have been appropriate. 3. KW cannot go out and make a deal if there is not a willing partner. It's that simple. KW also owes it to the organization not to make "an offer they can't refuse." 4. What happened to the Sox and Koch on the west coast trip did take the wind out of our sails. They team was so determined to put that "we can't win one the west coast" mentality behind them. They went out and played well enough to do so, but then things were Botched. Thank you

Deja vu, all over again. Guys, something similar to this happened last year, iirc. I don't remember what the poll was all about but Sox fans flooded it. There were threads here and at WSI that told the Cubune people exactly what happened. They even wrote a column about it. Of course, steps were taken to prevent this from happening again. Apparently, they once again underestimated the intelligence of Sox fans. But, hell, they're so used to dealing with Cub fans and fleecing them so easily, that this is understandable.

"Should of" used Shingo for two innings. Today, if it's close, use Shingo for 3 innings. Tomorrow, two more Shingo innings. Tuesday, Shingo's tired, but we need him. Two more innings! Wednesday. Jeremy Reed for Carl Crwaford... Hell Yes! ... Crawford is a proven commodity. Reed is still, at this point in time, a prospect. There's no gaurantees with a prospect. I don't care if he is your "best" prospect, which in itself is argueable. However, Crawford is NOT the LH bat we need. What we need is an RBI producer from the left side. A good RH pitcher can let Crawford get on base, and then just mow through all our righty RBI guys.

Ozzie may know something about this guy. He may know how this guy ticks and knows how and when to push the proper buttons. We'll have to see, but I'd be willing to bet that Ozzie put KW on to this guy.

What I was saying, tongue in cheek of course, was they should pay him $14 million, but have that come to 10% of the payroll.
