  1. I'm sorry but it sounds to me like we'd be getting royally screwed on this deal. Livan Hernandez is ok, but not worth Borchard and Harris, imo. I can grudgingly see Maggs for Soriano because of the money issues. But even that is a stretch.
  2. Let's see. Mariotti is in print/internet, TV and now radio. Is there no stopping this moron?
  3. There you go people, proof positive!
  4. Robin Ventura is a great example. And upon his return to USCF with the Yankees, the Sox fans let Robin know exactly how they felt about things. But, were the Sox "listening"? The fact we are having this discussion answers that question.
  5. I grew up in the Chicago area, so I have shoveled snow and Been in the sub-freezing temps for months at a time. Which is precisely why I never ever want to do it again.
  6. In another thread, I stated that I disagree with about 99.99% of apu's rhetoric. Here's an example of the .01% I do agree with.
  7. That was hilarious! Thanks for posting that.

    Homeland Security

Hey Nuke! .... You seem to be very trusting of the US Government in that they won't misuse the powers the Patriot Act has given them. Again, I want to state that I am conservative in my political leanings. I can only advise you to keep a very wary on them. I remember a generation of American's that never would have perceived of our government sending our military into a situation to where they were expected to fight but not allowed to win. As you are aware, it happened that way in Viet Nam. But the scariest thing about that, to me, was the fact that those soldiers who got sent to Nam, and died there, were children of WWII veterans! THEY LET IT HAPPEN because they TRUSTED the government too much to question it. Finally, the young people of this country stood up and, for all practical porposes, brought that war to end. Don't ever trust them. Keep your eye on them till they day you die. Teach you kids to do the same. I disagree with about 99.99% of sideshow's rhetoric, but I do thank God he is out there doing what he does. He is keeping that wary eye on those bastards in Washington and spreading the info that he finds. That, as much as you and your cronies in uniform, is what will keep America free.
  9. I would bet that there will be at least one "Drink Responsibly" ad during the Super Bowl. In fact, I think Super Bowl Sunday is the holiday that traditionally has the most alcohol related driving fatalities each year. Even more so than New Year's Eve. This was something I heard on the radio a few weeks ago and I'm inclined to think I have this correct. However, it is possible that I am getting my facts confused.
  10. Bush "bypassing the judicial branch to make sure that it is federal law ....." should not be a problem. IF congress passes such a law and IF the president signs it and it becomes law, THEN someone can test the constitutionality of the law by taking it before the judicial branch. What a great country we live in.

    Howard Done

In other words, because of the fact "that primate images have been used historically to support racism against African Americans ", it is innappropriate to use said images in such a manner. But, Bush is white, so it's cool. No double standard here.

    Paper or Plastic

I'm almost always using a debit card. That qualifies under the afforementioned "If I can't afford it ....." comment.
  13. Nuke, it kinda took a different direction. The original concept is cool.
  14. Durham. Sirotka ..... I'm sure there is more.
  15. He did have, if I recall, some type of surgery on his pitching arm or shoulder, but it wasn't TJ surgery. It was last off season.
  16. So what happened to your theory about time and injured pitchers? That is exactly what happened to DW. He may be able to come back and give 14 wins .... again.
  17. Players, coaches, executives move from organization to organization all the time. They develop bonds with people they have "gone to battle" with. For a fan to get upset with someone for calling and ex-teammate and congratulating him on being successful is, in my opinion, ridiclous.
  18. Yes, I'm aware of the 2 year timetable for a complete return to form. As I said, it just never entered my mind prior to that post.
  19. I have to agree with you on that point. That's a perspective I failed to consider.
  20. Chad Bradford has been THE man in the A's bullpen and they've been to the playoffs for 3 or 4 years in a row. He wasn't the closer, but he has always been on the mound for that key out in the game. How can Bean ever regret making this deal? I don't think this is a steal, one way or the other. And I don't think Olivo will ever be a year after year all-star. He might hit well enough to make it once or twice, but that's a great unknown, also. We got a good, solid young catcher that needed some time to develop. They got a good solid reliever that was ready when we traded him. A good trade for both teams.
  21. I'm hoping Person can fill that "proven" and "decent" starting pitcher's role. His health is a question mark, ala Flash last year, but he is both proven and decent.
  22. Miguel Olivo was not a "steal". Chad Bradford has been a major cog in the A's bullpen since the deal went down. I'm SURE Billy Beane does not regret that deal one smidgen. As for the rest of this stuff: Frank Thomas is an ass. Ozzie Guillen is an ass. Kenny Williams is an ass. Wally Backman is an ass. I'm sure that pissed everyone one off in one way or another, but that's the way I'm beginning to see things.
