  1. Backman, Bell, Dent, Gaston, Guillen, Francona, Yount, Leyva .... these are the names I've heard mentioned or rumoured to be under consideration. There's also a bench coach from Baltimore who's name escapes me... Perlosso or something like that, I think. So that's 9 names right there. Hell, it could be anybody. We'll just have to wait and see what the organization decides to do. Either way, we'll have to live with whatever choice they make.

    Billy Koch

When it's all said and done, we don't know which Billy Koch we will see next spring. We can only hope that the rest he got in the 2nd half and this off season helps him revive his fastball. If so, we will be in good shape. If not, he's going to be a burden on our payroll.

    I loved it

Glad to have you with us. Enjoy. :fthecubs
  4. I don't see Harris being a .300 hitter this year. But .275 with some walks would be nice from him out of the lead off spot. The Sox definietly need to see if the guy can play ball. I'd rather see Rowand in CF and Harris at 2B than Alomar at 2B and Harris in CF. I think the Rowand and Harris combo would be both more productive and cheaper.
  5. I think you've the basic idea covered. You could go into other details, like why wasn't Clement used when Wood started faltering.
  6. Fortunately, they won't be talking too much crap now.
  7. More info on Backman mouthing off: See ya Wally.
  8. They both choked equally in my opinion. But, the Chicago media was rediculous in the way that they acted like it was a foregone conclusion the Cubs were Series bound. They probably contributed to the fortitude and determination displayed by the Marlins throughout the course of that series.
  9. Oh I hate to do this to you.. but... bias SYLLABICATION: bi·as TRANSITIVE VERB: Inflected forms: bi·ased or bi·assed, bi·as·ing or bi·as·sing, bi·as·es or bi·as·ses Sorry..... Uhhh...yeah. Bias is a word. You are both right. Bias is a word, but in the context presented "People are biased" is correct. However, "You may continue to harbor some bias on this subject." I can be an ass at times.
  10. Because, unfortunately, that's what works.
  11. Somebody has to keep you people on an even keel.

    Cabrera

Cabrera might DH, so there's a chance Encarnacion will get some PT.
  13. That's some funny stuff.
  14. I used to live in the neighboring village of Chicago Ridge and went to high school in Oak Lawn (at Richards).
  15. I wonder if he'll ever be able to show his face in Wrigley again. I'd buy him a drink just to help him drown his sorrows.
  16. I remember him. One of his first games, against the Tigers, I think, he hit the ball real hard, and I was optimistic about him. Oh well.... Anybody remember Rusty Kuntz? Who could forget a guy with a name like that? If I'm not mistaken, isn't he currently a coach with the Expos?
  17. Please keep the political remarks where they belong. Well, I'll even settle for the off topic board.
  18. To me, the Royko quote posted by cwsox pretty well sums it up. Just reverse the teams and it's most accurate. One other thing, Royko was one of the few respectable Cub fans.
  19. Yes, I caught that comment. And quietly smiled to myself.

    Cool!!

The baseball world is focused on the post season right now, as it should be. There will be plenty of time for press announcements about the Cell in Nov, Dec, etc. Damn. It's going to be a long off season.
  21. I was scared until the Bartman play, then I knew the Curse was still in effect. The Cubs were toast from that moment forward.
  22. The speculation, even on the part of the media, is half the fun during the off season.
