There is a huge difference in the amount of money between a top notch player and a top of the line manager. You'd get more "bang for your buck", so to speak, including some very favorable publicity.

I'll answer your question. Torre took the superstar filled roster on the New York Yankees and made them play team baseball. They didn't play for personal stats, they played for wins. What Torre did before New York is irrelevent because he's a different person now than he was then. More experience and knows what it takes to win. That's why I want him.

I don't think they'll make that hire without talking to Ozzie.... unless Ozzie is pure speculation and the brass isn't even considering him at this point.

I'd like to see Reed give Rowand a run for his money next spring. Considering he's only had 1 year of pro ball, though, I doubt the Sox would count on him in CF no matter how well he performed in spring training.

We have to have a 3B coach anyway. Ozzie has experience there, is an ex-Sox and a fan favorite, with a few exceptions. Sounds like a perfect fit, to me.

I didn't recall you ever saying what you thought. I think he'd be perfect for the Sox. As for Ozzie Guillen, hire him as the 3B coach and let him tutor under Cito and Nossek for a couple of years.

To answer the question, though. There are a lot of variables to be considered when you are talking about who to trade. But, based strictly on our personnel situation, I'd have to say Konerko. If Thomas chose to walk, you'd have to reconsider that, but it still might be the best move to make.

I brought up Jose Cruz Jr when someone started a thread about our fantasy lineup. You could do more than just Jose Cruz for Magglio. You could add Konerko, JT Snow couldn't hit a beachball anymore. That would give them two bats to get Barry some more pitches. One of their young pitchers would be nice, but they gave up a bit for Ponson, so I don't think they would give us any young pitchers. I think we would get some junk payroll back from the Giants though, but I could live. The Problem is that he's not saying we would get Cruz, He's sayin the Giants could put Cruz in center I believe Cruz is a free agent. The Giants signed him to a one year deal last winter, correct?

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Cito Gaston taking the team. I'd take Torre over him, if at all possible, but I'd be happy with Gaston.

I know I am simplifying this, but if our players just tried to hit line drives and go the other way and move runners over, i can almost guarantee you that we would be in the playoffs right now. These players are capable. It's so simple, it's brilliant. That is exactly why we are not playing the Yankees right now. And we'd beat those s.o.b.'s too.

I've seen some great playoff hockey games, but baseball is far and away the greatest sport ever invented.
