  1. I've never heard anything negative about Cito Gaston. Two titles. A good player's manager. All class. I'd like to see Cito get it.
  2. I left Chicago in 1976 at 18 years of age. I've never "hated" the Cubs. But, I do harbor an intense dislike for them. Having to live through that summer of '69 as a an 11 year old Sox fan was hell.... until the legendary collapse, of course.
  3. All that it takes to get rid of KW is two words: "You're fired!" ....... Damn sure don't have to give up Buehrle to accomplish that.

    Chicken or the egg?

Personal experience? Sure. But that was 30 years ago.
  5. Shoe, Wright, Cotts, Rauch, Stewart, a free agent .... whoever. We certainly need some to step up and fill that slot.
  6. The manager that is eventually hired should give us an idea on what direction this club is going to take. If it is someone like Backman, though he may have s*** in his own nest earlier, then you can figure the club will start moving veterans and go with a younger club. Gaston, or another veteran manager, would point to coming back with most of the veterans still in place next year. And yes, I read this is a column somewhere. Not trying to claim this as an original conclusion of mine. I hadn't seen it expressed on the board and thought I'd share it.

    Chicken or the egg?

I had to share this one with you people. It just may be my bizarre sense of humor, but I got a good chuckle out of this one. A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is leaning against the headboard, smoking a cigarette, with a satisfied smile on it's face. The egg, looking a bit pissed off, grabs the sheet, rolls over and says "Well, I guess we finally answered THAT question."
  8. I'll give you this one. I do agree with you on the right of democratic dissent. That does tend to keep our leaders a bit closer to the straight and narrow than would otherwise be the case.
  9. If you look at the timeline link of 9/11 that I posted in one of these two recent political threads then you will see that there was a time after the 1st plane hit that they could have sent up fighter jets to intercept the Pentagon plane. No one knew it was a terrorist attack until the second plane hit.
  10. Just going to tell you how I handled the telemarketer problem. Since I work midnight shift, telemarketers were a real problem for me. Their calls would wake me up several times a day and turning off my phone was not an option at that time. So, whenever I received a call from a telemarketer I would ... get this, it'll shock you.... politely explain my situation to them and ask them to delete me from their calling lists. The calls eventually stopped. I'll tell you, it surprised the hell out of me, but it worked. True story.
  11. This speaks volumes. Homer S > FOX News This also speaks volumns.
  12. From Alice Cooper to Alan Jackson .... that could be my CD changer you're listening to.
  13. Maybe an asshole is just what we need to manage this team. I'm sure, as far as the players are concerned, Fisk would qualify. Remembering the Deion Sanders incident.....
  14. And that was damn close to being a sweep by the Tigers. I know. We were there That was for everyone else's benefit.
  15. I agree. Every member of that team should be kicking himself in the ass for blowing such a great opportunity.
  16. The 5th starter slot did do the Sox in this year. Who would have known Danny Wright would go from 14 wins to 0 as a starter? As for that deal with St. Louis, I don't think StL would go for Maggs/PK ... and we can't trade Buerhle based one your theory that we were already one starter short.

    Larussa?

If we are going to get a guy that started with the Sox, then moved on to the A's and eventually to a team now in the NL Central ... well, why not Chuck Tanner?
  18. I think a legitimate case can be made for Stewart, regardless of the stats. However, Delgado should get it, imho.
  19. Nobody will really ever know how much Jackson and Weaver knew, or when they knew it. Eight Men Out is not the definitive account of what happened. As that was also a look back through the smokiness of history.
  20. Screw 'em. You've lasted 1206 posts here. Hmmmmm, you must really save the good stuff for WSI.
  21. I still think that dirt bike accident messed Rowand up early in the year. I like the guy and think he'll be a solid major league centerfielder. However, Reed just might push him in spring training.
  22. Some White Sox fans are extremely pissed, anyway.
  23. That HAS to be a new record!!!
