I agree with you on Marte and Konerko. I hope we don't bank on finding another Loaiza from the flotsam of those available on a minor league contract. Lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place. (It's a cliche. I know it's not true.)

Yeah I suppose Eckstein could go either way. Last year could have just been a 1 off for him and he could be nothing but a ordinary SS, but I think a change of scenery would do wonders for him. He wouldn't be under as much pressure to perform as he was this year with a Championship Team and I think he could post some good numbers and most importantly a high batting ave. for us. I just think he's just some1 we should take a chance on if we need a SS, which we'll prob will. Personally, I'd rather go after Edgar Renteria. I'd luv Renteria on this team, but somehow I don't think we're gonna be able to afford him unless JR changes his ways. Eckstein would come on da cheap, low risk high reward type of situation. You have a good point there.

I'm with you. I don't have a clue as to what the Sox should do. At least, not yet. I have a few ideas I'm kicking around. I keep looking at Renteria and Drew in St. Louis. Seems we should be able to build some type of deal that could net those two for us. I guess it depends on who we can re-sign. I'd love a Renteria/Alomar DP combo. With Crede at third, that would be a helluva infield defense.

This is not the team that goes to Athens. This is for the Olympic qualifying team. There will be changes made to this team if it does qualify.

Screw Frank Thomas! The manger makes out the lineup card every night and if he thinks Thomas should be hitting 9th, that's where he should put him. And there should be no b****in' from the Big Skirt. As for Carlton Fisk, Roman: The White Sox betrayed Fisk, not the other way around. I think Frank Thomas has out lived his usefulness to this organization. He'll be better off elsewhere, and the team will be better of as well.

How can anyone with with any common sense bash Loaiza for what he's done for the White Sox this year? Oh... wait .... common sense. That explains it.

Yes, I remember Ed Spiezio playing for the Sox. He played third base and wore, iirc, number 5 on the old red pin striped uniforms. What's all this recent fasination with Eckstien? I am kinda leaning to the probably that he was a flash in the pan last year and will be a career below average major league shortstop. I cannot even begin to imagine a scenario where Matsui plays for the Sox, short of Reinsdorf selling the club to Mark Cuban. Jason, you have my approval on the Scott Spiezio thing. Now make it happen!

JM is still trying to get Garland to be the type of pitcher Garland needs to be, even though JM won't be back next year. I don't think it's a matter of disrespect or hate on JM's part.

I read that article ... and I can't disagree with them. In this case, the Trib is just reporting the facts.

I don't have any problem with Buehrle sticking up for Manuel. JM has been his only big league manager. You'd expect a little bit of loyalty there. In fact, it might be more alarming if he didn't "get his back". For the most part, people here seemed to feel that the way JM handled that Cotts/Buehrle fiasco in New York was, well to put it nicely, mishandled. Mark was all primed to pitch in Yankee Stadium and didn't get the opportunity. Even though I defended JM at the time, that may have been the key decision this season that led to the el foldo. The players seemed to feel that MB got screwed, and with the loss of that game and the next one in Detroit.... hell it just might have been. That sweep in Yankee Stadium might have been the magic bullet for this team. Sadly, we'll never know.

The lack of heart shown by this team is the single biggest reason I want Wally Backman to mamge this team next year. He was a guy who played with heart when he was in the Majors, and, apparently, based on what Rex has reported this year out of Birmingham, he can get a team to play with heart also.

I don't disagree with you on Thome. I'm just saying that the contract he signed with Philly was way beyond anything we could, or would even want to, do. That contract would have hamstrung the Sox for years.

Since my son died, I've learned to let my emotions go, if that's what I need to do. So, yes, I'll cry over a movie. Especially, if it involves a parent losing a child. They just hit too close to home, at times.

Who cares? ....... Ummmmm ...... Aaron Miles -
Barry Larkin? No, thank you.

And this, my friends, is exactly what is wrong with the Sox. Frank has GOT TO GO!
-
Whether it was from MLB or CWS .... It's another example that they don't have a f***ing clue. Piss poor marketing.
-
Only if you actually take it seriously.

"Roman" and "logic" in the same sentence? Nah ... I didn't just see that, did I? Frank Thomas deserves a pass? How about a ticket out of town? I agree with Rex, Bmr, etc. saying the Sox will be better off without Frank. Nothing personal against him, he's been a great hitter. But, he is, whether he likes it or not, the effective "leader" of this team. And the dude isn't cutting it as a leader. This team will never learn how to win with Frank Thomas here. He's a hitter, but he's certainly not a winner.

Southsider, you have to watch this guy.

I read the whole thread... Down boy. Just yanking your chain, as I'm prone to do from time to time.
-
Bmr... don't break your arm while patting yourself on the back, brother. Predicting the Chicago White Sox to fall short is not exactly brain surgery.
-
I would trade Frank Thomas for a bat boy, if I could get rid of him, his piss poor attitude, and wasted payroll. Like someone said earlier, it would be addition by subtraction. I think we could actually get something decent for Frank Thomas. I wouldn't give him away. With his age, salary, and well documented poor attitude? I seriously doubt it. I knew you would.

Lookl up "lack of heart" in a dictionary and you'll see Frank Thomas' picture next to it.
