  1. well wouldnt you rather have mark pitch in front of you and the other home fans, instead of opening up on the road (where colon can do just as easily)..... this is marks home first.. colon came second.. it should be treated as such and mark should be the one to pitch in front of the home crowd on opening day.................jmho though....... That would be nice, if MB could pitch the home opener. But, it's wins and losses that count and if he pitches game 1 instead of game 4 that means one more start for him, at least, over the course of the season.
  2. That statement alone tells us how far we are from a championship ball club. OUCH!! Sorry if you found that painful, but that's the way I see it.
  3. Borchard is not quite ready yet. If Rowand can't go, It'll be Harris.
  4. It's all about Sammy. Not about winning. But then again, they aren't familiar with winning.
  5. I'm with CK. A Hooter's would be the thing.
  6. Wunsch has his role. He needs to be used in that role. He's not as effective against righties.

    MB

The Sun Times' Slezak and the Daily Harold's Rozner both wrote columns this morning taking potshots at MB. If there is another side to this story, Mark better get it publicized, or he's gonna be taking some serious hits in the media.
  8. The last president we had that was a combat veteran was the first George Bush. People used to think he was a wimp, but the dude was a Navy pilot in WWII. The guy was certainly not a wimp.
  9. I went with MB and BC winning 45 games. That would be a good start to build a championship year on.
  10. On the first name, last name subject... In Japan, it works the same as it does here, I believe. Hence, Ichiro is the given name, Suzuki is the sirname. In China, it is reversed. Yao is sirname. Now what the deal is with pitcher that was just sent down .... Korean? .... I think I saw him listed in a boxscore as "An".
  11. I don't think Ginter or Porzio will make the club.
  12. Ok, here's my shot at it: Division winners: New York, Chicago, Oakland... wildcard: Twins Atlanta, St. Louis, Los Angeles wildcard: Dbacks Chi over NY, Twins over A's, Sox over Twins StL over Dbacks, LA over Braves, StL over LA Sox over Cards in 7
  13. Well....I think its pretty easy to explain..first of all, Perry only pitched with the Indians after McDowell and Tiant were gone...second, after those two, you had those classic pitchers of yesteryear such as: Steve Hargen, Dick Ellsworth and Sonny Siebert following them in the rotation...a s*** bullpen with nobody you can ever remember and a lineup that was filled with nobody's like Joe Azcue, Fred Whitfield, Vern Fuller, Max Alvis, Larry Brown, Leon Wagner, an aging Vic Davalillo and an equalling aging Rocky Colavito..... ...pure and simple, they would have needed Koufax and Drysdale and maybe even Bob Gibson to have any chance....they just sucked. I seem to remember a couple of those guys end up in a Sox uniform, including an even older Rocky Colavito.
  14. I think I'd have to pull the trigger on that proposed deal. But, it ain't gonna happen.
  15. I agree. Loaiza is looking pretty damn good. They might put him in the #4 spot and put Wright in #5 because he won't really be able to get all his spring innings in.
  16. I remember Sam McDowell. Yes, he could certainly bring it. How the hell did Cleveland suck all those years when they had McDowell, Tiant, Gaylord Perry?

    MB

Reading this thread has been interesting. First, there is no way I'd trade MB just because he wouldn't sign the deal offered by the Sox. Hell, we still have him for 4 years, and MB is, as he proved last year, a professional. He'll do his job to the best of his ability, which is quite a bit of ability. The Sox had to be in the ballpark, because Mark said that for a minute he thought they were going to get a deal done. I'm not sure blame needs to thrown in any direction here. They just didn't agree on a contract.
  18. I hope he makes it too. And, you never know, it might light a fire under the guy replaces. Someone like Harris for example. A career minor leaguer with half the talent takes your big league job because he wanted it more and out played your ass. You have a tendency to take notice when something like that happens.
  19. Apparently, they are close enough to keep MB's agent at camp. Maybe they'll get it done this time.
  20. I think the key word in the quote is "nasty". If Colon was working on a change, ok, no big deal. But if he already has developed a nasty change, then that's a whole different story.
  21. I like guys like Miles. I always liked Craig Grebeck and John Cangelosi when they were with the Sox. The little guys that just hustle their asses off.
  22. I think Wunsch will hold on to his job too. Just mentioned the possibility.
  23. Gulp. Who wrote that? Haven't seen the article, but it wouldn't suprise me if Scot Gregor wrote it....he can be a bit optimistic at times....25 wins in 33/34 starts would be one helleva accomplishment...can happen, but I think realistically the best we can hope for is a solid 20... ....lets not go crazy... Yep, it was Gregor.
  24. I haven't seen mention of it here on the board, so I'll drop this little bit of info from the Daily Herald on you:
  25. You can never have too many good pitchers. We've already got one guy hurting (Wright). Seems to be minor, but at this point who knows? Yeah, I totally agree, you can NEVER have too many good pitchers....but, it does keep me wondering: Who will be the 11 or 12 JM takes up north? Looks to me like these guys are definate: Colon, Buerhle, Garland, Wright, Marte, Wunsch, Koch, White and Gordon.....that's 9. Assuming no injuries to the above, who would be the remaining 2 or 3 between Loaiza, Heredia, Rauch, Munoz, Porzio, Almonte, Diaz, Ginter, Glover, Adkins, Stewart, Malone and Sanders? For what its worth, I think Loaiza or Rauch, Glover are the most likely, with Munoz (the additional lefty) possibly the other.... thoughts? I think Glover is a lock and Wunsch can possibly be beaten out by Munoz.
