Whew! That's UGLY.

the only problem is that Miles is a year younger than eckstien, yet has not seen one day of ML Action. Eckstien also has 2 years service and a ring. I really can't see Miles beating of Jimenez for the job, mainly because he's all but been gaurenteed the lead off spot and job at the 2 bag. If Miles hasn't broken out of the minors at 27 or whatever he is, why can he do it now? Why couldn't he do it now? Sometimes, a player is a late bloomer.

I'm going to throw this out there and not offer any opinion, one way or another. Just given the portrait of the American people that has been verbally painted by President Bush, that we are a good, freedom loving, peace loving people.... and that most of believe is true, I'm sure.... Is this proposed war justified? Why?

Booze and/or drugs have ruined some pretty good ballplayers, too. Doc Gooden, Steve Howe, Darryl Strawberry, Lamar Hoyt... to name a few.

Schmidt comes across as a pompous ass. And every time Joe Morgan talks about the HOF he comes across as a racist pompous ass.

I'll agree that the colon deal was good........ but I think Kenny had less to do with it then we all think..... Although I really like the Jimenez deal. 21 year old alex fernandez is battling for a CF job with the padres after hiotting 299 in AAA last year..would much rather have him than jimenez....we dont have a legit , go get um , CF due to show up until '07 in webster...we have a s***load of 2nd baseman..hell aaron miles might beat out jimenez I think when KW made this deal, he had Jiminez in mind as the eventual starting shortstop after Valentin is gone. That may still end up being the case, next season.

Currently 67- 63, in favor of Miguel.

Garland came a long way in the 2nd half last season. I think the dude is ready. I expect him to have some nice stats this year.

As far as I'm concerned, Robinson is the greatest defensive 3B of all time. But, don't sell Santo short on his defensive abilities. He was excellent in his own right. And I mentioned Schmidt as being better than both, I'm talking about overall greatness as a baseball player, not just defense.

I just know this much. I'm a reasonably attractive, willing male and if I happen to meet a reasonably attractive, willing female.... then we gonna do the wild thing. Anybody out there, listening?
-
Definitely, get thee to a doctor. ASAP!

I voted for the Hawks also, but they are both so bad that this is moot point. The Bulls have hopes of getting better every year, but the Hawks are stuck in a quagmire of incompetence and show no signs of coming out of it.

We are all entitled to our own opinions, cwsox. And I respect yours. Yet, I see Santo as being superior to Brooks with the bat.... Though Brooks was good. And I see Robinson, as being superior to Santo defensively, though not by much. To me, that's a wash... if one is in, the other should be. Though neither of them hang with Mike Schmidt as far as 3B's go. Brooks did have the World Series exposure that Santo lacks, but day in, day out through the '60's.... I'd have a hard time picking which one I'd want to be my third-baseman.
-
I always considered Durham as "adequate" defensively. He was weak on turning the DP, and also those previously mentioned "lapses".
-
The Colon deal makes me think that, perhaps, he is getting the hang of it.
-
I agree .... Ron Santo is the single most deserving non-HOF'er. See Ron Santo vs. Brooks Robinson. No way Brooksie should be in there, and not Ronnie. No way in hell.
-
I really, really hope you and the "experts" are right.

Minoso has one major flaw on his resume'. He never played for any team in New York. See Whitey Ford vs. Billy Pierce if you doubt me.

Face reality. The Twins are a DAMN GOOD baseball team. Don't get me wrong, I like the Sox chances. But the Twins have to be considered the favorites by any reasonable logic whatsoever.
-
The Twins won the division by 13 1/2 games last season and beat us 11-8 (I think) in head to head competition. I'd have to say, by definition, they are the favorites.

Whoa! Hold the phone on signing Maggs to a big bucks, 10 year deal after 2004. He's 29 now, will be 31 then.... and we want to commit big bucks to a guy who could possibly lose his bat speed at age 35? No thanks. Sign him to a 3 year extension now... tacked on to the end of his current contract. Signing Maggs to a 10 year deal 2 years from now would be like signing a guy like Jim Thome to a long term, big bucks deal this year..... .... hey.... wait a minute....hmmmm

Willie Harris will not go to AAA to be the starting CF. That spot is reserved for Borchard. I think Hummel will be at SS and it will be between Harris and Miles for the AAA 2b job. Daubach won't be in the starting lineup, barring injury or trade. His purpose, if he makes the club, is as a LH hitter off the bench and as an occasional fill in. I don't expect a lot out of Dauber this year, just having the threat of that LH hitter on the bench will effect some manager's decisions in some games. Maybe leave a pitcher in the game one batter too long. I think Alomar has another year in him, as long as it's as a backup. There is no way he can be counted on to carry the load as a starter.
-
What's he done, so far, to "deserve it"? If he wins that spot, then he will have earned it, and therefore deserves it. The pitcher that gives us the best chance to win those games is the one that deserves it. And, don't tell me Rauch is the pitcher that gives us the best chance, because none of them have pitched an inning yet this year. We just don't know at this point.
