Can we give the guy a break? This was his first or second appearance in big league camp. He may turn out to be great or he may end up sucking, but neither will be because he has a few outings in ST. THANK YOU, REX!!! I saw Cotts pitch for one year here at ISU, and he gains momentum as the season progresses. Players don't tend to peak in the preseason. A lot of people are way to quick to label somebody as a bum, or whatever... We have to let these players develope.

And Mike Piazza was only drafted because he was connected some way with Tommy Lasorda... Godson or something along those lines. So, even a "wasted" pick can pay off sometimes.

Just one comment on the "evening up" discussion.... I know I have seen big league umpires "give a pitch" back to the pitcher when they knew they called a strike as a ball. And I've seen it on more than one occasion.

So then what would be the case if say Danny Wright pitches poorly, and the Sox are down by two runs when Manuel decides to bring in Gordon in the 8th inning. While Gordon is in the game, the Sox gain the lead, and Manuel decides he wants Gordon to pitch in the 9th (see Foulke situation against Yankees...this kinda thing could happen where he'd get two innings of relief). Gordon has a 2-run lead, and he pitches out of the 9th without giving up any runs. The Sox win the game. Gordon would be the winning pitcher; however, does this mean that no save would be awarded to anyone? If Gordon finishes the game, and is also the winning pitcher, no save would be awarded.

That's Dead Things and Pisstons!!! Or better yet, Pissed-ons

Oh lighten up! It was funny and it happened to be at the expense of a NY team, which makes it all the better.

I think they'll end up signing Stewart. I hope all of the turn down the Bears... They'll have to draft a QB, then.

Give it time, I'm sure you'll come up with something.

A difficult situation, but one any manager would love to have.... Yes, it could be a very nice problem to have. It would be interesting to see what the Sox do if Joey B does make the team. Would they trade Lee? Rowand? Thomas? Well....I think alot will depend upon how Rowand produces....If he looks as if he can be a good productive ML-level CF, then I think the organization should consider what they might be able to get for Lee...that of course assumes JoeyB continues to hit....I mean, right now, Carlos is a pretty marketable commodity and might be able to get us another LH bat or some serious minor league pitchers prospects.... I'd hate to see his bat go, but if Rowand and Borchard are the goods, then you've got 3 guys for 2 positions, and we might want to move one of them to improve ouselves elsewhere by moving one of them... But there's a long way to go before this all happens.... dont go trading anyone away yet... joe will come up when HE feels hes ready.... kw already discussed that at soxfest.. he said that joe came to them and said he wasnt ready yet....therefore im feel that they will go with how he feels instead of trying to rush him... espically since there is not a need to rush him up here just yet... of course i cant stand the yard gnome being out there but he will do for a while till joe works out whatever it is that he feels the need to and comes north........hopefully when all is said and done we see the yard gnome headed out of the sox field and he can take a few others with him............ I was talking hypothetically here, HSC.

I liked Torborg a great deal and was angry with him for leaving us. He was a good manager of our team. Torborg was one of my favorite Sox managers. The players seemed to genuinely like playing for him and he had a very approachable demeanor. Bevington was the anti-Torborg. Bev's been the worst thus far. I thought Torberg was good, too. Bevington was horrible.... but Don Gutteridge was the worst.

Miles went yard in the day game.

Rex, you had it nailed on your first explaination, but pulling out the rulebook eliminated all doubt. Thanks.

I agree, if he has that cannon arm everyone says he does. I could see the Sox moving Maggs to left and putting JB in right, eventually. I would assume... That still leaves us with Rowand in center field until Webster is ready to take his place. Rowand f***ing sucks. I think Rowand will pleasantly surprise you, if he stays healthy and gets toplay every day. I see him as a very solid ballplayer. Not a HOF'er for sure, but a good solid ballplayer.

Ken Caminetti also mentioned something about steriods. In fact, I think he was the first to do so publically. If I remember correctly, he put it at around 50% and Canseco said 65%.

I read somewhere that the Sox were going to renew MBs contract at $430K, and then held off on doing it so they could try again at negotiating a long term deal. They'll have to get something done by March 11th or renew the contract at that point.

Well, some of us have another sport as our preference. I mean, I LOVE baseball to death; but, hockey takes the cake for me. such a violent sport for a virgin dont ya think............ She's got to get her kicks some way! LOL

Depression is a chemical imbalance that can completely incapacitate someone, depending on the severity. It certainly is an illness. Fortunately, with the proper medication, those that suffer from depression can and do lead normal lives. The key to the medication being successful is that the patient must continue taking it. Too many times, the medication works and then the person feels that they no longer need it, so they stop taking it. It creates a vicious cycle.

When Mark is arbitration eligible, the Sox cannot take such a hard line approach. They may be able to come to some sort of agreement, even if it is only for one year at a time. If, after the 2005 season, Mark is still healthy and the ace he has proven himself to be, then the team can try and sign him to a multiyear deal and tie him up till 2008 or so. That would work, and it would make more sense financially for the Sox to take that approach. Let's say Mark blows out his arm in July of 2004... and the he has a contract that pays him $6Mil in 2005 and $8Mil in 2006, and that keeps the team from going out and getting someone like Colon. We'd all be screaming how stupid JR was for signing MB to such a long term deal.

After the way our pitchers looked last ST, I am sure as hell glad they were able to forget about it.

The sooner he cuts his swing down and closes those holes he's got in his hitting zone, the better. This kid really sounds like he's going to be awesome.

Valenzuela had two doubles in today's (Tuesday) game. One to tie it in the 9th, another to win it in the 11th.
