  1. He resigned with his loving wife by his side. I think the man should have stood there himself and not put his poor wife through any more humiliation. Even if it was totally her choice to be there, he should not have let her. And the same goes for any one who has used their wife as crutch when facing a scandal ... from either party.
  2. QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) A simple statement. Sometimes it's the only way to be very clear. Start the better player, it's not a very difficult decision for Ozzie and the coaches to make. I also prefer the sort and to the point style. I don't have to write 6 paragraphs to make my point. But then again, everyone has their own style.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 11:04 AM) So are you saying Crede should stay because of what happens to other players? I said nothing of the sort. You made an assumption that Fields would improve this year, if I read your post correctly. I pointed out that it is should not be assumed.
  4. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) In over 540 AB's, and as a 28 year old. Fields hit 23 HR's in 373 AB's, as a 24 year old. There is no reason at all to think Joe will ever have a better season than he did in 06, at least at this point. Josh not improving off his 08 numbers would be unexpected. Have you ever heard of the so called sophomore slump? The reason it has been given that nickname is because it happens so often. Josh not improving this year would not be a surprise at all.
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 09:47 AM) Shall we start to list the posters here we could make that very same statement about, who also are negative constantly about the team? Sounds like a good catagory for a Soxtalk award.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) I wonder what happens when a team trades all of their highest value players and keeps their lowest value players. How many have won championships? We could have championships in Charlotte and Birmingham! Wouldn't that be great?
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) Yeah, but it was undeniably accurate. I have to agree.
  8. QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) It's really got more to do with corruption and inefficiency than it does with them being Democrats. Enough said.
  9. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) Updated Delegate Scorecard for the Dems. This is assuming the delegate split in WY is 7-5 for Obama, though most other sites I've seen are predicting 8-4. Anyway, Obama leading by about 110 delegates total - 1570 to 1460. His lead in pledged delegates is 154. Currently, Clinton has 245 Supers, Obama has 201. That gap has been slowly closing. There are 9 states and 2 US territories left to vote. They represent 599 pledged delegates. There are 795 total superdelegates, of which 446 have endorsed a candidate already. That leaves 349 supers undetermined. John Edwards has 26 delegates to throw around, and he has yet to endorse a candidate. Plus the NC primary is looming. There are 4049 Delegates total - 2025 are needed to win. Then there are the FL and MI delegates, which were removed from the process, but may come back into play. I don't know how much they are worth. Here is a possibility to consider. It may occur that even after all the states are done, AND all the supers have committed, that STILL, neither candidate makes 2025 - due to MI and FL. That's if they aren't re-done. This has been your NSS delegate count update. Enjoy the madness. If MI and FL are redone, or somehow seated, wouldn't that increase the number of delegates needed to win?
  10. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) The only people that Cecil likes are Mrs. Butterworth, Mrs. Paul's and Aunt Jemima. You forgot Betty Crocker and Sara Lee.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) Indeed, he even came up with a couple of sentences I thought are very true: I must admit, truer words have yet to be spoken. LOL ... I took that part of his column as sucking up to his base. But, the for the most part, his references to the history of the franchise and Hull and Mikita's contributions to it, were right on the money. The coverage of this tribute has brought back some great memories for me. Two players, so different in style, but so similar in effectiveness. In my lifetime, they were the best to ever wear the Indian head sweater. Ok, I'll include Tony-0 and Glenn Hall.
  12. I asked the question in post #58. I don't see how it could have been answered in post #37.
  13. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) Ummm, Post 37. You never answered my question on how you'd enforce it. Ummm ... I pointed out that enforcement is a moot point. It's the principle of the matter that makes a difference here.
  14. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) that's not my point. My point is that she double talks. You are not allowed to ask her hard questions... she plays victim. She says she is upset with Obama going negative. Yet, she is CONSTANTLY trying to push "negative" things about Obama. It's hypocritical. I'd like to see some scrutiny sent Obama's way, regardless of where it originates. So far, he's gotten a free pass from the media, as was pointed out by that SNL skit recently done. It would be ironic if a comedy skit turns the tide in this primary season, as it appears it just may happen that way. The media has been known to have a "build them up to tear them down" mentality. Obama just may be heading into some catagory 5 rapids where up to known he's been on a leisurely canoe trip down a calm river.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) I was half kidding, but he still wont make the hall, the same way that Ventura wont, and they actually have pretty similar numbers. Santo never had a real stand out season, never really factored in the MVP race or playoff race, and played on crappy teams a majority of his career. Because of those reason, he probably wont get in, although he should and still has a chance to. I would argue his numbers were worthy especially during a "pitchers era", but he doesnt have that hook to hang his HOF hat on. Fun fact: Santo led the NL in walks 4 times. I hope he makes it before he dies. Growing up in the 60's and in the Chicago area, I would get home from school and turn on the Cubs. Hey, I was always a Sox fan but it was baseball on TV so I watched. I saw a lot of Ron Santo playing baseball, and in my opinion he deserves to be in the Hall. Rock, you are a damn good poster here, so don't take this wrong. But I'm not going to argue about it with anybody. I remember just how good Santo was and if anybody else wants to jump in with stats or whatever to shoot my opinion down, you won't change my mind. Brooks Robinson was the best 3b of the era, but Ron Santo was a close second to him. I think the biggest reason he is not in the Hall is because from that '69 team Jenkins, Banks and Williams are in. Banks was a shell of his former self by that time so that shouldn't be held against Santo. In fact, I think Santo deserves it more than Jenkins. I'm rambling now, so I'll stop. I know I keep ... so much for stopping ... comparing Santo to Brooks. But I look at that comparison like I look at comparing Billy Pierce to Whitey Ford. If one is in, the other should be. And Chicago ends up on the short in in both cases.
  16. For the first time in several weeks, I read a Mariotti column. I'm glad I did. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/mariotti/83...T-jay08.article
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) The best thing Santo did in his career is kicking up his heels, other than that, no chance. Take your Cub hater glasses off and look at what the man did. He was the best 3B in NL during the 60's. Compare his numbers to Brooks. Not that far off. The man deserves to be in the Hall. I don't care what uniform he wore or how bad of a color man he is in the radio booth.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 09:55 AM) The Tribune chimes in with a full article this morning on how this could actually happen. It only makes sense. We might not like it, but it's the most reasonable solution.
  19. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 09:24 AM) I didn't say I wouldn't have issues with it otherwise, but the fact that it is yet another group of Muslims trying to get something or someone in the US to bow to their ways instead of adapting and going on does set me off. Would you be defending this if the group was something different? Someone on here asked if it would be ok if straight guys wanted gym time away from gays. How about if it was a group of ultra-conservative Christians who didn't want men gawking at their pure bodies for Christ and wanted some alone time? Can't have those evil lecherous men checking them out while they exercise, that would be bad,and could lead to impure thoughts! And yes, I would have a problem if they set aside time for them as well. Would you? Exercise your religion (and body) all you want. But quit trying to turn us into the EU. France and the UK are too f***ed up from all their bending over to accommodate and I don't want the US to be the same way. That was me that asked about the straight/gay thing. Never did get an answer to that question.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) If other places have these problems, why is it that Chicago is the highest taxed municipality in the country? Because it's been run by Democrats for 50 years. No brainer.
  21. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) It's ok, we should just all become one big happy nanny state where everything is taken care of by our government because it does SOOOOO much good for us. Food, health care, cars, jobs, money, spouses, religion (oh wait, we can't have that now, can we?)...
  22. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) So, I was poking around on HillaryClinton.com today and noticed something interesting. In almost all her major "Morning HUBdate" press releases, she almost ALWAYS includes two or three items labeled something along the lines of "in cased you missed it" and it points to something "negative" about the Obama campaign. It might be Rezko, or this monster comment, or some other stupid little thing they are trying to dig up on him. Yet on BarackObama.com... almost no mention of her. They focus on Obama and his message. Just interesting from a person who cries bloody murder the moment Obama says anything negative about her, she's practically PUSHING the media to get negative on Obama. Yes. Heaven forbid anybody take a hard look at Obama. Who the hell does does Hillary think she is by putting him under the microscope. Damn man. This is politics. If your candidate can't stand up scutiny, he doesn't need to be in the race.
  23. Baseball is making money hand over fist and the game is as popular as it's ever been. Selig may not be the greatest, but baseball is in very healthy shape. He's earning his salary.
  24. Good story. And a 'bottoms up' to Jamie Burke.
