QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) That was one hell of a hockey game. However, someone tell Penis Pierre that SJ did not win the Cup with that win. They did not "slay the dragon" or "quiet the doubters." Until they actually win something, this SJ group is still known as the big chokers. This win just prevented them from becoming the biggest chokers of all time. I hope they can get by Van. Should be another great series. Yeah that was ridiculous. They beat Detroit in the WC Semi's last year, and in only 5 games to boot. I thought Detroit had a very good shot at beating Vancouver had they pulled this off tonight (and not had more injuries like they did), but I don't see how San Jose beats Vancouver. San Jose is built a lot like Vancouver is, only with inferior players. Canucks in 5, maybe 6. I really dislike both teams quite a bit, but obviously moreso Vancouver. Whoever wins this series, I know I'll be rooting for the east winner in the Final.

Everybody knows my opinion on this series. But screw that, the Bulls are 4 wins from the NBA Finals and 8 wins from the NBA Championship. Go out there and shock (most of) the world, fellas!

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:08 AM) i think the Bulls have played in the playoffs like they have all season long. Nothing has been easy, there were very few blowouts, and many times it came down to Rose shouldering the load in the 4th quarter. Why did we all expect a domination switch to flip on in the playoffs? They play their best when they play together, as it has been all season long. The games they have lost, the team stood around and waited for Rose to do something. Three bench players, Asik Gibson and Brewer, were the main reasons. The bench mob Yeah I suppose that's true, Brewer and Asik were a big part of why the defense was so good in the 4th quarter. The bench mob has still been a significant letdown in the playoffs overall though IMO.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 11, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) The bench has been huge in our last two wins. Well everybody was huge in game 3, it was a blowout. The bench really wasn't very good last night either: the Hawks made a run to get back into the game during the "bench mob" period early in the 2nd quarter. The only guy off the bench that was good was Gibson. He was one of the main reasons they pulled away in the 4th quarter with his strong play, though.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 11, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) Our advantage this season against Miami has been and will continue to be the Bench Mob. I have a feeling come games 6 and 7 if necessary that the "big three" will be really tired. I think we've already seen that the "bench mob" advantage the Bulls enjoyed throughout the regular season isn't anywhere near as relevant in the playoffs. In fact, the bench has been hurting the Bulls in the playoffs, if anything, especially during that time in the early 2nd quarter when it's mostly bench players in the game. I'm just not sure that advantage matters anymore, outside of the fact that guys like Taj and Korver can really help out as individuals during certain games.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2011 -> 07:13 AM) It wasn't an option at all. It was a historical building at that point. Were they required to only "renovate" it due to the stadium being a landmark? Doesn't matter now, Soldier Field lost it's landmark status anyways about five years ago. And rightfully so, they basically just built a new stadium but kept the old columns there. The only reason the plays looks so weird from the outside is the columns, too. The two things I don't understand is why didn't they put up a retractable roof (actually, that was probably because ownership wanted to go the cheap route, so I do understand that), and why did they only put in 61,500 seats? I still do think it's a pretty nice stadium on the inside. -
I honestly think the Bulls can play the defense needed to beat Miami. The Bulls can be a very good defensive team if they focus and get back in transition, forcing the other team to run half-court sets. I think they will do that against Miami (if that's indeed the matchup, with both teams advancing this round) and the Heat aren't a very good half-court offense anyways. But for the Bulls to beat Miami, they'll need Rose to be playing at prime MVP form, with consistent secondary scoring from Boozer, Deng, Korver, and a surprise guy like Gibson. I just don't see the offense being good enough, especially against a team as good on defense as Miami.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) The group that has one person? I'm sorry. To say the Pacers were a more difficult matchup than the Heat will be is asinine. You're telling me D-wade doesn't present a tougher challenge than Collins and Teague when it comes to dribble penetration, pick and roll? Because he's not a "PG"? Wade can get to the cup as often or more as any elite PG in the league. Indeed. That LeBron guy is pretty good at ball handling and getting to the rim, too.

QUOTE (Felix @ May 8, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) The officiating is not why the Bulls lost the game. I don't even think the inadvertent whistle play was actually a foul. The issue (and it's a major one) is that a whistle was blown, stopping play for no reason. Who knows what happens if the play isn't stopped. I agree though, refs had nothing to do with the loss.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 8, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) So because they got favorable officiating for most of the game, it makes it ok to have abysmal officiating in the final 12 minutes? No. But it doesn't change the fact that overall, the Bulls got the better of the refs. And that's all you can ask for because it's an NBA game and they're almost all officiated poorly.

QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ May 8, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) I guess so. EVERYTHING that I read, the UA basketball boards, etc all had him going. I am glad he is back. They have a good recruiting class coming in, and Miller is one of the better coaches in the country. This is why message board posts should be taken with a grain of salt. Miller did a good job using Maryland to get more money from Arizona! -
The Bulls actually got what they needed from Booz tonight, but everybody else was kind of bad (outside of Gibson, but that was in VERY limited minutes). Rose distributed well, but the Bulls can't win if he misses 20 of 32 shots. Not enough offense to make up for that unless Korver gets red hot. The lack of an actual 2 guard hurt the team tonight. I don't get the officiating complaints either. Yes there were a few WWE calls late, but the Bulls shot more free throws in the game and overall got the favorable officiating in the first 3 quarters. Also, nobody is talking about it, but the fact is that Derrick Rose still isn't a very good defensive player. It's being exposed in these playoffs (has been in both rounds), but is being largely ignored for some reason. At this point, I just hope the Bulls make the conference finals. The fight they've put up all year has been admirable, but they're not good enough to beat Boston or Miami at this point.

Haha it would be the Dodgers offering that stupid contract to a crappy player. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 6, 2011 -> 06:31 AM) Probably at least as often as a team that opened with the Sox current record actually makes the playoffs. Its happened twice. In history. All of the people saying "it's only May 6th" need to look closely at the above quoted post. Since expecting a playoff berth is unrealistic now, all I want out of this season is our manager and general manager to be fired. At least something good would come of 2011 if that occurs. Hopefully, KW is gone before the firesale happens in July. It seems like either way, Ozzie is likely to be the first to go. Which is fine by me, I don't care what order they go or who deserves to go first because they should both be gone. -
Al Qaeda admitting bin Laden is dead is stronger "proof" that it's true than any photo or video would have been in my opinion. Not that I doubted he's dead, but their acknowledgement proves the Obama administration right in not releasing any photos or videos since there was no reason to other than "proof".

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) Ah, the summer of 2001...Gary Condit and Shark attacks. Why did we ever get away from those news stories again? Lol indeed. The good old days, when those were our biggest problems.

2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread

Will be interesting to see how big a name Maryland can get. It's still a solid ACC job, but not nearly what it was and Williams didn't do the school any favors by waiting until now. Also, Gus Johnson is a bit overrated as an announcer. He makes the NCAA Tournament games more interesting and is a fun listen if the game is close, but he's a bit of a one trick pony IMO. Never thought of him as a particularly good football guy to be quite honest. His schtick really works best (by far) with the NCAA Tournament, and both parties need each other in the CBS/Turner marriage to Gus. -
QUOTE (Brian @ May 5, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) Kick him out of the league. The guy is an idiot and most of the time the media glorifies his behavior as cute and harmless. His act is old. Most of his behavior nowadays is cute and harmless, he's reformed his behavior quite a bit the last several years since his major mid 2000's problems. To say he should be kicked out of the league is outright insanity. However, he definitely deserved to be suspended in this case. Also, where I can purchase that "Rose before hoes" shirt? Awesomeness.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 4, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) I don't understand the obsession with having to put the blame on a single entity. When someone says it's Ozzie's fault, another person has to argue that it's more on KW. When someone puts it on KW, someone says it's more on the individual players, etc. Who cares who's got the most share of the blame? I certainly don't anymore. This team has underachieved far too much for far too long. Nobody's job should be safe at this point, not a single person in the front office/coaching staff/lineup. I don't give a s*** if Ozzie Guillen deserves one half of a percentage point more of the blame than Williams. I just don't give a flying f*** about either of them or any of the players and coaches. They can all get f***ed and I hope to see some wholesale changes as soon as possible. I am whitesoxfan101 and I approve of this message. Couldn't have said it better myself.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 4, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) When I looked at those pictures, my first instinct was "Ive never seen a helicopter that looked anything like that before", there is already a Yahoo article about it. They really needed to destroy that thing more. Ahh the kind of stuff that we (probably) actually have at Area 51: technology that nobody knows about. I agree that I've never seen a helicopter like that before, but I'm guessing they destroyed it enough so that nobody could take anything out of it other than how it looks.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 4, 2011 -> 02:45 PM) UCF now being investigated by NCAA. They've been busy it appears. No wonder Tressel's death march was postponed until Aug. What happens with Tressel in August? Do they announce investigation results or something? And will he resign before that? Just curious, I haven't kept up on the case lately. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 4, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) terrorists are funny like that, because they want to be killed and they're ready for it, but they still get p**** hurt and talk about revenge when we kill them. Hey whatever gets you off I guess. I doubt they're p**** hurt and want revenge. They are just using it as some sort of (in their mind) justification to do what they do and as proof they're right. I doubt a single terrorist would look at that photo and see it as a warning they should stop.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 4, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) Faking the thing requires too many moving parts... the government really isn't as good at that kind of thing as some people assume or daydream about. That's the whole reason government consipracies don't hold water, especially in the world of 2011. The government couldn't keep a secret like that for particularly long. I'm amazed the bin Laden stuff didn't leak out before we got him to be honest, probably because only a very select few knew about it. Plus, like Balta said, it'd be rather easy to prove bin Laden is still alive if he were.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 4, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) Sara Palin is a f***ing idiot. The best part of that tweet is her saying it's a warning. Yeah, because I'm sure all of those terrorists willing to suicide bomb and die for their cause of killing others will really be scared off by death.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 4, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) Yeah, so you and the rest of the Tea Party/Right can cry photoshop and conspiracy. This is part of why not releasing photos/video is the right call. A released photo would lead to claims of photoshopping or the man being a bin Laden look alike. Releasing the video of the at sea burial would lead to claims it was fake and staged. There were people who thought Obama's short form birth certificate was a fake, I bet there are people who think his LONG form birth certificate is a fake and he wasn't born in the United States. Despite it being on video, there are people that think the moon landing was fake and 9/11 was a government hoax and/or demolition. Conspiracy theorists (usually, not always, but usually) are just complete idiots with absolutely no case. I understand distrust with government, but nobody is dumb enough to fake the capture and killing of bin Laden.
