I think it's pretty clear that Casey Anthony murdered her daughter, and I think it's also highly likely that the parents aided in the coverup. But, all you need is reasonable doubt, and because they body was not discovered for a long time, the defense had an open window for reasonable doubt. Especially since the prosecution didn't seem 100 percent sure on how the girl died. It's unfortunate, and I'm not a fan of our legal system at all, but based on its setup, I see why today happened. It's just an absolute shame that a killer, once again, will walk free.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 06:46 PM) Rodrigo Lopez it is. I'm scared. This post worked out really well. The Cubs went back to losing on Monday though. Probably because they suck.

It was so nice to see Dunn actually do something tonight. We can only hope this is a trend and not an anomaly. The fact that this team is 9th in the AL in runs (which is still not good) rather than about 13th is a testament to how good a few of our guys have been. Because our offense right now, overall, is an absolute trainwreck. It seems like so many of our games in the last several weeks look like tonight: overall solid pitching (perhaps not great, but solid), and an offense with which scoring 4 or 5 runs is like pulling teeth. So many close, not particularly high scoring games, and very few blowouts. It's a tough brand of baseball to watch, but the team continues to win more games than it loses ever since the horrible start to the season. Hopefully it continues, because all of these division games coming up are obviously immeasurably huge.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 12:35 AM) I, like most, was pretty happy until I saw the Carcillo signing. If I was to guess (and I'm sure we have 10 of these by now)... Kane - Toews - Brunette Smith - Sharp - Hossa Olesz - Bolland - Bickell Mayers - Kruger - Carcillo Keith Seabrook Montador Hjalmarsson O'Donnell Leddy In this scenario, McLean and Scott are your extra skaters. Hopefully we can resign Frolik, bump Olesz down to the 4th line, and get Carcillo out of the everyday skaters. Then maybe re-sign Campoli, which makes O'Donnell the 7th d-man and elimated John Scott. Fingers crossed. This makes me shake my head...... I got the impression, agree or disagree, that Mayers may be the 4th center with Kruger not on the team. If that happens, I'd agree with your lines (assuming Frolik is back) except I think Mayers will be the C4, and HOPEFULLY Morin is on the team with John Scott being told to go ***k himself. If that happens, and Carcillo is an extra skater that doesn't play much, I won't be as angry. I am hoping more moves are coming though since this team is a legitimate forward short. Acquiring one seems quite possible too since that free agency craziness is going to lead to some teams having cap problems. My first thought, with Brad Richards going to the Rangers, is go get Brandon Dubinsky.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) They always reel us back in. LOL this is so perfectly put. Beating the Cubs, keeping that stupid trophy, and closing in on .500 is nice though. If we can get to and above .500, it'll at least feel like we belong in a race that we've somehow been in despite being below treading water point. Nice to see Juan Pierre actualy contributing lately. It's clear that Ozzie, for some crazy reason, refuses to not play him, so we'd might as well hope he continues to somehow not suck. Maybe some of the other black holes can follow Pierre's lead and playing well for a few days, too! Great job by the bullpen today.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) I was a-ok until they signed that assclown Carcillo. Coach Q isn't going to put up with his penalties, thus I don't see how he lasts very long on this roster. If he can get John Scott out of town, signing him might be worth it for that reason alone. I'm just worried they have plans for some goon line with Scott/Mayers/Carcillo and all three are on the teams. Which could keep people like Smith and/or Morin, who, you know, actually have talent, in Rockford.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) Eh. I guess you need one of those guys on your team. They have him, Jamal Mayers (although he's not as frequent with the penalties as Carcillo). John Scott had better be gone, Carcillo had better be a healthy scratch a large part of the time, and another move hopefully is coming. This team has one (maybe two) too many guys that are just big and take penalties up front, and one too few scoring forwards. Not a good sign for a team that wasn't great at scoring 5 on 5 last year and was horrid on the PK. Liked the Brunette move (he's an upgrade over Brouwer IMO), and the Mayers one is fine and I get, but I hope a deal is coming. IMO, Stalberg needs to be out and one more skilled forward needs to be in. I give the team a C for today, very average performance by Bowman. Hopefully Montador and Brunette work out like we hope and expect, they're basically the skill replacements for Campbell and Brouwer as of now. If that happens, Mayers is Scott's replacement as the big forward who fights, and Carcillo is a healthy scratch most of the time, it's fine. Although, I still think the team is one scoring forward short.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) Ehrhoff (his rights actually) was traded to NYI for a 4th round pick. Not that this means NYI will sign him (though I don't see a problem since they have a ton of cap room, unless he and his agent feels they aren't a contender, or feels he can get more money in free agency) but it was funny seeing all those Canuck fans on different boards saying they were signing all their pending FA back with ease. Unless the Islanders offer him some insane contract that he can't refuse since they need to spend (and I doubt they'd do that, set the market, and anger every other team in the NHL), I see no reason why Ehrhoff would stay there. It was worth a shot since it's a 4th round pick I suppose. Pitkanen resigning didn't surprise me (I didn't think Carolina would just let all of their big name UFA's go), but the Brooks Laich news surprised and disappointed me. I thought he'd at least hit the open market.

QUOTE (Real @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) Morel is hitting over .250 and isnt a liability at his position, what more can you ask from a 3rd RD pick in his rookie year? Cant believe there's discussion about Brent Morel.... not trying to flame anyone, but this surprises me His batting average is 1 million percent irrelevant. What is relevant is his .263 on base percentage, .313 slugging percentage, and .576 OPS. I can't imagine there is a worse offensive regular at 3rd base in baseball, and those numbers are among the worst for any regular at any position in baseball. No defense can make up for those numbers.

QUOTE (OilCan @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 08:47 PM) One of the callers on the Score said it for me, so succinctly: fire both those ***clowns, promote Hahn, and let him hire his own Mgr. Yeah, exactly. I see NO reason why either of them should keep their job. I can't even pick one. I'm more concerned with getting Ozzie out of here because it feels like he has more power than KW and he's one of the worst game managers in the sport, but I think KW being gone would do more since he's doing a crappy job finding/evaluating talent, and I am confident his replacement (Hahn) would be a major improvement.
-
I can't think of a more glaring sign that your manager has lost his team than having to bench a starting OF during a game for loafing, only to then lose said game because the guy you brought in for the loafing outfielder was also loafing.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 08:29 AM) Sorry Slav but.. Laich resigned with the Caps. 6 yrs. 4.5 mil. That's the first UFA/RFA news to surprise me so far, I really thought he'd test the market. I was hoping the Hawks would give him a close look too, so I'm also disappointed.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) Hmm, Bernstein continuing with his baseless Kaner rumors today. I guess "in Buffalo working on his game" isn't good enough. Bernsie is being pretty irresponsible. DIRECT TWEET COMING. Even as somebody who thinks there is something to the Kaner rumors (come in, do you REALLY think he's just being borderline dead silent by choice this offseason?), you can't go on the air on a major radio show in Chicago with rumors. Get some facts, or don't mention it. And I should also point out that my love/hate relationship with B&B is more often on the love side.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) How much money will the Bulls even have to spend in FA, hypothetically? If they could afford either of Smith or Richardson, I'd be down. Rip Hamilton is another guy who would be a nice fit. Honestly, nobody really has a clue. This lockout could last an entire season for all we know. Almost everybody agrees it will go into next season. So by the time they do make a deal, whenever that is, how the deal will look is something nobody really knows. It'll likely be a lot more owner friendly than this one though, that much is pretty likely. -

Nine goals allowed in the last two Gold Cup Finals against Mexico. They play the game with great pace and have some incredible skill, but that's just astonishingly brutal.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) I hate him so much, but man would he be a great addition to toughen up the blue line. I think Ehrhoff and Laich would be a solid pairing for additions. Those are two guys I've given a lot of thought to as well. It seems like there is a group of the holier than thou, we're smarter than everybody else Hawks fans throughout some portions of the interwebs who are freaking out about dealing Campbell. Although looking at this thread, they're clearly not on this board. I don't understand why they are, but whatever. Apparently, they trust Campbell will stay healthy and see no decline in his game as that bad contract continues and he heads into his mid 30's. Even though I would argue every part of his game outside of puck movement already is. I just think fans get too attached to players sometimes, and fear the unknown that is a replacement. Oh and if that stupid kissing couple didn't want to get pummeled by the cops, they probably shouldn't have been running through the street with a mob of rioters after darkness, which means it was quite a while after the riots started.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) Does that mean Weber has still never recruited, as a head coach, a player that got drafted in the NBA? Yes sir. And while he has had his recruiting issues in the past, I think this overall fact is more a byproduct of his inability to get maximum effort out of the talented players he does get to play for him. Bruce has shown he can get the Chester Frazier and Bill Cole types to give maximum effort, but not the Demetri McCamey and Jereme Richmond players of the world. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) Olesz has a $1mil buyout but it's 6 years. Wow, really? I'm assuming exercising this means a 1 million dollar cap hit the next six years? I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hawks do this. The cap should go up by a pretty healthy amount again next year due to the new TV contract taking hold, and the league is growing, so I see no reason for that general upward trend not to continue. Might be worth the buyout to save a little over 2 million the next 3 seasons and take your chances with having an extra million in there the three after that. Of course, maybe they could trade him and just get rid of the contract outright, or have plans to keep and use him. We'll see. Either way, this was obviously an incredible trade. The Brouwer trade was too, though. Even if you take out how bad Campbell's contract (which you can't do), his offensive game has really been showing signs of decline IMO, and the defensive aspect of our defenseman play as a whole (including Soupy) fell off last year. With his size, I wonder if age is catching up to him a big quicker than it would most guys at his position. Campbell was still a good puck mover, and I'd prefer if the Hawks pick up a solid d man during free agency or via trade before next season. But I wouldn't be overwhelmingly angry if Campoli is simply brought back, and a cheap vet or kid is the 6th d man. But I think I like Leddy more than most people, so keep that in mind. Everything is in play at this point in terms of dream scenarios IMO. I might wet my pants if Richards and Kaberle are inked, although I still think that'd be tough to afford against the cap. But even if they aren't, there are other options out there. I think it's pretty clear, especially with the teams want for a center and the lack of depth at the center spot individually in this free agent class, that the team is going to make a run at Richards. I cannot wait for July 1st.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 12:08 AM) At the risk of saying something hyperbolic, he's obsessed with more than that. He is dead-set on playing a guy who is terrible at baseball. He's terrible in the sense that he's a shell of his former self and he's worse than almost all other major league players according to a wide variety of statistics. In no way am I saying that he's actually bad at the sport as a whole, as he's likely better than 99% of the world's population at the sport. I know he's better than me and I'm not passing judgment on him as though I'm better than him, just stating that according to the metrics we have available to us, he's inferior to other options that are readily available to this team. This is also no reflection on Juan Pierre (in case you were still wondering to whom I was referring) as a person, as he seems to be a well-liked individual and is more than likely a great human being. He is just hindering this team and we have very little room to keep a hindrance around. I wish him nothing but the best in his personal life and I hope that he makes it on another team. He just needs to go. I actually think in the process of attempting to avoid being hyperbolic, you ended up being hyperbolic.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:53 PM) I find it hard to complain that your #8 and #9 hitters are not setting the world on fire. Yeah, Beckham slumping again really hurts, but people need to lay off someone like Morel who was not even a blip on the radar coming in to 2010, and is acceptable on offense while providing great defense. Look at almost any lineup in baseball, and you will find at least 1 or 2 "black holes" toward the bottom of the lineup. This lineup has 5 legitimate black holes in it. Although, it's getting closer to 4.5 since Brent is seeing more burn. Even beyond the starters, Omar and especially Ramon are way off their paces from last year. Milkman, I'm not against keeping Quentin in RF and playing Dayan in LF. I'm more concerned about the offense right now than anything.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:47 PM) Lillibridge/Beckham/Vizquel - 2B Rios - CF Quentin - LF Konerko - 1B Ramirez - SS Viciedo - RF Dunn - DH Pierzynski - C Morel/Beckham/Vizquel - 3B I'm with this for now. Is there a point where playing Lillibridge regularly (perhaps in RF) and benching Dunn for the most part (with Viciedo at DH) becomes an option? Giving up on Dunn seems crazy considering his career resume and our lack of overall options, but it's almost July now.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:09 PM) Congratulations to Demetri McCamey and Jereme Richmond. You got to 4th and 9th best respectively on Jay Bilas' "Best Available." So much for those of you that thought someone would for sure gamble on Richmond. Wear it, Jereme. It's such a waste. I just wonder how they would have turned out had they, you know, gave a s***. -

QUOTE (bulokis @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:19 PM) I do not care who the bulls drafted because the picks were too far to produce an impact player. I care about the SG position though. If F******G Bogans is still our SG, I would consider it a big failure. The Bulls will not (and cannot, which is probably the more important phrase here) win the NBA Championship until the 2 guard spot is improved significantly. I think they realize that though, which is a major step in the right direction. Now, they need to fix it. -
This move from the Flyers, I should also point out, was a Tim Thomas overreaction IMO. Was the goaltending for the 3 Stanley Cup Champions before the Bruins this year really that great? You need good goaltending to win a Cup, but not great. Luongo was a whack job all postseason, and the Canucks lost the Cup by 1 game! And to overpay for a goalie who isn't even great is insanity by the Flyers.
