  1. UNC is terminating Butch Davis as coach. Sounds like, from the descriptions I read, that the athletic department wanted to keep him, but the Chancellor stepped in and got rid of him due to the academic fraud. He absolutely had to go, but the timing of it is bizarre. It should have happened months ago, and by waiting until now they've really screwed up their season this fall.
  2. Maybe this win saved us from White Flag II. Or, at least, put it on temporary hold. It'll be an interesting 50 hours before we play next, and just as interesting until the trade deadline. This was a must win series.
  3. My thoughts on Mark Teahen are about the same as on Edwin Jackson. Except Edwin is a much better player. Other than that, we loved you Mark! Enjoy Canada.
  4. Seems like a nice guy, even though he changes teams constantly. And that's all I've got.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) <!--quoteo(post=2443280:date=Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:37 AM:name=scenario)-->QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) <!--quotec-->The Indians would do the deal now... but Beltran is refusing so far... doesn't want to go to Cleveland.
  6. QUOTE (TheHugeUnit @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) No it's the prospect you'll get for Frasor in the draft that will... Stewart isn't anything special more like a horse at the end of the roto. That's what I mean though: if Stewart can eat innings and pitch at the bottom of our rotation, it would salvage all of this. Going back to where it all started, I don't know if Hudson would've been more than a #3 starter in the AL anyways. He certainly wouldn't have been a #1 type IMO.
  7. The people that like Stewart had better be right because he's really the one guy that can salvage the entire Daniel Hudson/Edwin Jackson saga of the last year. I don't think Frasor can, although he is a decent reliever.
  8. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) Oz seems to be on a different page than Kenny In other news, the sun rose this morning and will set this evening.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) Its really not that bad of a deal if you just take into account this deal itself. Teahen was a top 3 enemy on this site for good reasons. Jackson was walking. We got 10 million, a cheap effective reliever and a top 50 prospect. Not everybody likes Stewart nearly that much. And he's still a soon to be 25 year old in AA. Really, now that we're not all mad, this isn't a terrible trade though, although I still think it's bad.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:16 AM) Did KW say anything about the finances involved in this deal? Toronto is taking all of Teahen's salary.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:10 AM) According to Keith Law, Stewart is immediately our #1 prospect. I think he's an ok prospect, but being our #1 prospect doesn't exactly mean much.
  12. So, we gave up Daniel Hudson for a year of Edwin Jackson starts that eneded up meaning nothing, two months of Jason Frasor, and Mark Teahen salary relief. Wow.
  13. Zack Stewart is coming to the Sox, per Mark Gonzales.
  14. Deal done w e-jax to jays 2 minutes ago via Mobile Web #chisox deal w/ tor is 2_team deal. E-jax to to, believe frasor and prospect to #chisox. Very likely. #tradedeadline Both courtesy of Jon Heyman.
  15. I've been a lot more upset than I am because the Blue Jays likely got Rasmus (who is a GREAT talent, but is a bit hot and cold with his peformance and doesn't seem great in the clubhouse) instead of us due to having better prospects. However, the fact that they did just shows yet again that our inability to have a good minor league system really, really hurts us.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) How do you hold guys on guaranteed contracts "acceptable"? (I'm going to milk this typo for a while). You really can't. That's why people like the manager and GM are held "acceptable". Except in our organization.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) This team has underachieved all yr long. The players deserve to be held acceptable for this. This isn't really players being held "acceptable" as much as it's salary dumping because the team hasn't played well enough to draw the fans needed to cover the heavy payroll load. The players that should be held accountable (Rios, Dunn, Beckham, Pierre) won't be.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) "All In" team to White Flag Part II....yet Kenny and Ozzie still have their jobs? The White Sox do not believe in accountability. I'm convinced these guys will both be here to oversee the rebuilding process after this year, too.
  19. Today just makes me even more upset about ever trading for Edwin. He wasn't even an upgrade over what we had, and everybody knew he'd gone after after 2011 at the latest. Now, he's gone at the deadline for a rental relief pitcher. At least Teahen is leaving.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) Oh, its not over yet. If there is a loss posted today, I wouldnt be surprised to see Thornton on his way out the door as well. If we lose today, and then Friday and Saturday, how many guys could go in your opinion?
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:23 AM) We've developed a lot of legit prospects the last 4 years. We've just traded most ofthem away. If you can trade basically all of your legitimate prospects in a 4 year span, you're not developing many of them unless you're making an insane amount of trade. And we're not.
  22. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:19 AM) Depends on if they send a prospect with, and who that prospect is. If it's Lawrie, that's one thing. If it's a similar guy to Cooper, I say we march to Kenny's doorsteps. Might as well march there either way. If Kenny could draft and develop a legitimate prospect more than very occasionally, deals like the Rasmus one wouldn't be so hard for us.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:05 AM) Because this is Edwin Jackson's value. Compared to picking up a pitcher off the waiver wire, he might be worth at best 2 wins this year, maybe more likely 1. To get that extra win, a team also has to pay a couple million dollars. They get the joy of a sandwich pick in exchange for him as well, but that doesn't net anything for years and may not even happen since the CBA is up this year. Dumping $9 million or so (or $5 m illion if we pick up Frasor's option) Is edwin Jackson's value. Are you ready to retract this post if the new rumor is right and Edwin is flipped for Rasmus?
