  1. I'm so tired of watching this team that a youth movement/White Flag II wouldn't bother me, despite the fact that the team is "in the race". I'd like to see some changes/accountability for what our organization has become in terms of on-field product. Of course, I'd like to see a new manager and GM too. But, I'll start with baby steps.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) I can't believe they left him in to face Konerko. I'd have been shocked if he were taken out. Better to lose with your best on the mound (who is used to throwing that many pitches) than with somebody from your iffy bullpen. We'll see if Valverde can finish it, I'd assume he'll pitch the 9th.
  3. Ripping on bringing in Thornton is irrational Ozzie hate IMO. Although, I should point out that the top of the 6th was the worst half inning Ozzie has ever managed. Betemit has an OPS almost 300 points worse against lefties, it was the move that had to be made. However, Matt Thornton lacks balls, so it didn't work out. Too bad the whole Rasmus deal wasn't true.
  4. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) I figure that they go on a little run this week and he trades Viciedo and reed for some vet. KW doesn't believe in youth movements. He didn't in 07, he won't now. Yeah, I already have some anger saved, bottled, and ready to be released for the inevitable Dayan for a crappy veteran past his prime trade.
  5. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 09:54 PM) I've never understood these threads myself because I'm always in. I thought it was about time for it though. f*** the Tigers. Oh no, I don't mind you starting this thread. Somebody was going to eventually. I tend to enjoy the sarcastic banter it eventually leads to as well.
  6. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/...h-movement-team I think this is just a bunch of hot air from Kenny since he isn't much for firesales or youth movements, not to mention his job (among many others) very well may be on the line based on how the rest of this season goes. To me, this is just KW trying to motivate the team. Maybe you disagree, though. Either way, interesting read.
  7. I don't really get these threads. I'll be watching every game possible and hoping we win. I also think we're the most talented team in the division. But, I really don't have faith (or think) that this general manager, manager, and group of players will be able to stay out of their own way enough to win this division. Where does that put me?
  8. What are the records for team most games under .500 to come back and win their division and team most games out of first to come back and win their division? Because the Twins were 20 under .500 and 16.5 back (on June 1st!) and are going to win this division IMO.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 05:20 PM) Jermaine Dye. Jim Thome was hurt in 2005. I'm sure he will use Frank Thomas as one of his examples. Alexei Ramirez was much better than advertised. Carlos Quentin was a bust in AZ and may have been MVP in 2008 in not for a fluke injury. Uribe was great his first season after being run out of Colorado. There are many. If Walker was half as pitiful as most say he is, there would be some players in his 8 years that went on to become much better when they got away from him. Jermaine Dye had the same numbers with the Sox as he did in KC, just a higher slugging percentage (which makes sense considering the home parks). Carlos Quentin was not a bust in Arizona as much as he had even more injury problems there than he's had here. Juan Uribe was statistically a better hitter with San Francisco and Colorado than he was with the Sox. I'm literally laughing at Frank Thomas & Jim Thome's names being brought up, and bringing up Alexei is just throwing a name out there since none of us ever saw him before he got here. Now, do you have any actual examples to defend your favorite hitting coach?
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) He has 194 major league ABs in parts of 3 seasons, spread out over 4 years. That is extremely premature at this point. Well he's only 27, so he's not too old yet (although I wouldn't say my statement is extremely premature, either). He just has AAAA written all over him IMO.
  11. Looks like today will be the last day of this thread!
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) It wouldnt take much to outperform Alex Rios regardless of what numbers are inflated. I'm pretty sure anyone we brought up could at least give us something other than 2 ground outs and a pop up. De Aza is a classic AAAA player, but you're still 100% right in saying this.
  13. Not only CAN the White Sox win the AL Central, I'd argue they still SHOULD win it, all things considered (talent, level of competition, etc). But, due to all of the problems this organization has that we've went over thousands of times for years now to the point where it's just annoying, they absolutely won't win the division.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 01:24 PM) We saw last year what Ozzie did. He benched him. Exactly. And I'm sure Kenny (who I'm not defending here, he's doing a bad job too, and should have some dignity and quit if Ozzie REALLY has more power than him) is afraid that his idiotic manager will do major damage to his best prospect if such a scenario happens again. The where would he play question is ridiculous. Give him the at bats that the man with the worst qualified single season batting average since the 1800's is currently getting.
  15. The Sox only sweep all season was at Boston (go figure), unless you also count the two game mini-sweep against Cleveland as one as well. Either way, such a thing makes it really tough on a team, especially when they start the season as crappy as the Sox did. The good news is the team still has one of the better records in the AL since early to mid May. But even in this division, it'll be hard to rally into first place (or, for that matter, above .500) if sweeps don't become more frequent. And our offense in particular makes picking up sweeps very difficult.
  16. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) Stamkos is staying in Tampa, reportedly 5 years @ 7.5 mil per I miss the fun a couple/few weeks ago when there were rumors all over about people wanting to offer him 10 years, 110 million dollar ish offers sheets.
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 09:32 PM) This Texas A&M to the SEC s*** is getting old, and fast. I know a lot of Big 12 fans don't want to hear it, but the conference is not going to last. I'd be STUNNED if it lasts longer than 5 more years. The Longhorn Network is just too big an advantage for one school. In addition to the reasons we already knew it was, now the network is saying it'll air games of top guys Texas is recruiting. That doesn't even sound legal to me, but he wouldn't say it if it wasn't true. Talk about a recruiting edge for a school that doesn't need one.
  18. QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 08:45 PM) When does Dunn become the albatross Soriano is? We have two "A" first names (Alex and Adam) with worse contracts than Alfonso Soriano right now.
  19. I agree with McKeon, even if he's tampering. Ozzie in Miami would make two fanbases very happy, so somebody needs to get it done.
  20. What a coincidence! The phone-hacking whistleblower was found dead. I agree with the quote in this story though, this isn't suspecious. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/jul/1...orld-sean-hoare
  21. It's pretty clear the chain of events for Kaner since the season ended. Believe what you want though. All I care about is that he'll be ready for training camp (fortunately), and supposedly this injury won't linger. Beyond that, I'm just hoping he plays well and stays out of trouble this season. I like the fact he has gained some weight, should be helpful.
  22. Lack of talent provided by the GM and lack of effort provided for the manager leads to a very unlikable team. Especially as they flounder away in a winnable division. Again though, what reason is there for effort or urgency? Nobody in the organization is held accountable. It's easy to not give a s*** if there are no consequences.
  23. The 2011 team isn't the worst White Sox club I've seen (or even close), but they appear to give a s*** less than any White Sox club I've seen.
  24. You can't summarize how offensively pathetic our offense is better than WGN just did by making the "Ford Drive of the Game" our pitcher having a nice inning in his MLB debut.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 06:25 PM) Paulino has dynamite stuff, we just can't help him out. Morel swinging at two pitches at his shoulders is not wise. He's 6-27 with a 5.50 ERA and 1.56 WHIP lifetime. He wouldn't be the first awful pitcher to put our offense to sleep though. Hopefully that swing from Paulie is a good sign.
