QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) He'll be canned before August. Some more info will come out about him somewhat unrelated to OSU and they will be forced to let him go. All of the player bulls*** that has come out is on the players, not the school so far. I can't wait to see what that is. Another Ohio State story out today, by the way. Who knows what is and isn't true, but this is all such bad publicity. This one seems to sound particularly bad. http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/...e-over-50-times -
I have to root for Boston I guess. Yuck, yuck, yuck. It's a shame either of these teams gets to win, but thankfully at least I get to see one of them get their hearts broken. Ideally Vancouver, as it's the lesser of the 2 evils. Great game tonight though, there is nothing like game 7 in hockey.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) Here's the real problem with that argument...the NFL lockout came first. If the NFL union does not break, or scores some legal wins (they already have)...then they've written the rule book for the NBAPA. NBA players also have guaranteed contracts, longer careers, and less injury risk (both in the short and long term). I don't see how they would fold faster than the NFL players. I think it's the absolute opposite. I disagree with you that it's rigged though. The Bulls had their shot at the end of game 4, and outright blew game 5 (although game 5 would have been a different story had the Bulls won game 4). The offseason last year was rigged, and the NBA has rigged games in the past. But the Heat are just the best built team for the playoffs. Beating those 3 guys 4 out of 7 times is very, very tough. And I'll believe Dwight Howard when I see it. All I want in terms of realistic options is a league average SG that can get his own shot.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) I think the opposite. Oh it's the total opposite. If people think the stuff the owners of the NFL are trying to force onto the players are bad, wait until you see what Stern has in mind. Even though it was a 50 game season, the 1998-1999 season wasn't too far away from being totally wiped out, and the league was in better shape back then. There are so many teams losing money right now, and that combined for Stern's demand for a hard, low salary cap is going to cause a long stalemate.

Lets say it's March 1st again for a moment. What kind of odds could I have received on this thread title appearing on soxtalk this year?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) It's all well and good to talk about next year, but this labor situation will NOT be pretty and I am almost 100% sure we'll miss games next year. Oh for sure. This situation is actually a lot worse than the NFL too. The NBA could cancel the entire season next year and it would not surprise me. Although I suppose the NFL still could too, in theory, but I don't see how that will happen.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) Thats why i give Boston the edge over TB. A hot goalie can ruin the Canucks if Bobby has a bad few games. Charra is also a nice piece to frustrate the physical Van forwards. As great as he is, Thomas has really looked lost at times against Tampa Bay, and I worry the same thing will happen against Vancouver, who isn't exactly short of firepower. Then again, I think Tampa Bay's defense/goalies would be totally overwhelmed by Vancouver. Ugh, just pull it off whoever wins tonight.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 26, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) Actually their defense is that Tressel hid the infraction and then lied, and that pretty much looks like the truth at this point. All that dumbass had to do was report the emails to the compliance dept. Well I would certainly agree with that. This is a classic example of the coverup being worse than the crime. I really don't think any of the stuff that has leaked out in recent months would have ever done so had he reported the emails immediately. If Tressel loses his job like eveybody thinks he will, he has nobody to blame but himself. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:27 AM) I'm all for whoever can beat the Canucks, and IMO that is Boston. I personally don't think either of them can, the Hawks and Detroit were the best hope in that department. I hope I'm wrong though, and that Vancouver is beaten obviously. I would agree Boston is the better team than Tampa Bay, but for some reason I feel like the Lightning and their firepower could really get into Luongo's head. The problem is their goalie situation is a mess.

QUOTE (JoeBatterz @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) Ya gotta believe that NBC is praying for the Bruins tonight. What would the level that the Canucks-Lighting would have to be under in order to be the worst rating Stanley Cup Finals ever? It wouldn't be worse than Ducks/Senators four years ago. But you're right, NBC is for sure praying Boston wins tonight, because Canucks/Lightning would be bad for them. I think it'd be an awesome hockey series to watch though (but so would Canucks/Bruins).

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 27, 2011 -> 08:57 AM) I don't doubt that at all. He's 22, he'll get better and that is f***ing scary. But, though he does play good defense and came up with some timely 3 point shooting, the Bulls have got to have a Bogans upgrade. Exactly. Get Derrick Rose an actual threat at the 2 guard spot, and he's not going to play nearly as bad as he did in this series. Rose playing poorly isn't just excuseable, and his horrible play during winning time in this series aren't either. But the fact is that as much as Miami deserves credit for stopping him, Derrick Rose with more experience and an actual shooting guard won't play like that against them in the future. A lot of fans were fooled into thinking the Bulls lack of scoring could be overcome all the way to a title because of their awesome regular season, but that's just not how it works. As for the NBA Finals, I'll say Miami wins. Dallas is so Dirk-based, and LeBron is better than him anyways. After that, I also doubt Wade continues to play poorly. But whatever, I won't even watch the series. I will say that if Miami wins, it will be bad for the league IMO. One of the main reasons the Heat have got so much attention this year is everybody hating them, and hoping LeBron doesn't get the ring he tried to just grab the easy way by going to Miami. If the Heat win, I really think it's going to turn a lot of people away from the NBA, and turn a lot of the people who hate them and watch games because of it apathetic and in another direction away from the league. Plus, since there is a very real chance the 2011-2012 NBA Thread will have no actual games discussed in it due to the lockout, that won't help the leagues cause either.

Anybody else as excited as I am about four more years of the Patriot Act?!

QUOTE (T R U @ May 26, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) That would be awesome if Ohio State got the ole SMU Death Penalty Nobody will ever get that again, I think the NCAA themselves said that. How much trouble Ohio State gets in probably depends on how many of the accusations against them are true. The NCAA usually takes far too long on their investigations, but I can see why they would take long on this one, because it seems like there is a new accusation against Ohio State every couple of weeks. They are going to get in a ton of trouble, but USC basically lost basically half of their scholarships for three years (10 a year for 3 years, and when you consider the scholly limit is 85, that's about 21 a year), a national title, and two years of potential postseason games. It doesn't get much more brutal than that. Then again, I really don't see how Ohio State is going to defend themselves. They might not have had a lack of institutional control, but their ignorance defense is clearly a crock. -

The intelligence of our team represents that of our manager quite well. Smart play and managing=a win today. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) The problem was...he gave up an out by bunting AJ over to 2b, so yeah, he was looking to play small ball. In a game the Sox trailed by 1 in the 8th, two of the last six outs were directly caused by the managers decision making. That's pretty impressive. -

QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 25, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) amazingly i think that (1) is even more stupid than (2) Haha I was debating that. There is also (3) Ozzie has no idea how bad Dunn has been against lefties. That also wouldn't surprise me. -

QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 25, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) Does anyone believe that Ozzie really had confidence in Dunn to drive in the run there? How could he? Ozzie either (1) didn't think Washington would bring in Oliver to face Dunn or (2) figured Dunn, at 0 for 31, was due. Either way, he's pretty stupid. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 25, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) It's just mind boggling how stupid Ozzie is with his personnel. Maybe Washington shared some of his coke with him last night? It's the only way I could see Ozzie being fired. And even then, it'd only be about a 50/50 shot. Sigh. -

Pinch hitting Dunn there might be the dumbest decision I've seen by any manager in baseball this season. Not that it surprises me. Bunting wasn't exactly a brillant idea either. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2011 -> 12:34 AM) Yeah, I'm mainly just frustrated and pissed. Sox were looking good and just gave that away tonight. After beating Cleveland two in a row, Indians pick one game up like that. Boom. You were at the game.... Were the people at the game surprised Paulie jogged to first on that final at bat? Maybe he was put to sleep by Adam Dunn's great at bats in front of him. -- Did you hear many negative comments in the stands about Dunn and Rios? I bet you wouldn't have said a negative word about it if it were you mancrush Bobby Jenks. Santos gave up his first run of the season on May 20th, nobody is allowed to say a negative word.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) Yeah, i'm sure the NBA would have a vested interest in keeping talent away from Blake Griffin. Gmab. Did I say they would? I don't know what the NBA's vested interests are, that's why I don't know how the fix would have went had that been the Clippers pick. It's not exactly the smartest league, considering it might miss an entire season next year after all of the success it has had this year.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 17, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) Someone in the Big 10 had to be the sacrificial lamb for UNC, I'm just glad it wasn't Illinois. Yeah, if Hairston is as good as everybody says he is and shores up their one weakness from last year, they will only lose 2 or 3 games all year. Plus adding McAdoo to that front line...they are going to a frightening team. -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) not that it made the drafting 2 PGs debacle any better, but what's the status on Rubio? At first I heard he was just going to be stubborn and stay in Europe for the long haul, but then I did hear that if there's an NBA next year he might play. I think it's kind of unknown what he'll do as of now. I'm sure the T'Wolves would like to know if Rubio will be playing for them next year too before the draft so they can figure out which guy to botch their #2 pick on. Rubio couldn't be any worse than Jonny Flynn is if he does come over. Also, lol at the Clippers. Even as it appears they are starting to improve, they manage to have this happen. Irving would look awfully good running the point on that squad, and would have been huge for their development. Of course, if the Clippers had that pick, who is to say the NBA would have fixed it so that it'd be at #1?

QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 18, 2011 -> 03:08 AM) David Kahn agrees with you. And he'll probably get quite the fine from David Stern now. The NBA Draft Lottery is the most rigged thing in sports, but David Kahn is still laughably bad at his job, and generally makes a fool of himself anytime he speaks. So I find this situation rather funny.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ May 13, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) f*** it, my head says heat in 6 but my heart says the Bulls take this series on pure heart and desire...couple of verry tight games, each teach with a semi-blowout win, and an OT for good measure with Pooh fighting and absolutely carrying the team throughout. I'm sorry but you are not a Bulls fan if you fully expect the heat to win this series. I don't think fully expecting the opponent to win makes you less of a fan. I think the Bulls will win this series if they play good defense and get guys other than Rose going like we saw last night. I think they'll do the job on defense, but I just don't trust the supporting cast enough offensively.
